You get what you pay for. I poured this on top of some ice cream tonight and can't say I was very impressed. Firstly, the bottle itself is a screw-top so it's fairly hard to have any control over the pour. It would be much better to have a thinner hole in the lid for more controlled drizzling. The sauce itself is very runny and incredibly sweet. I wouldn't say the taste was particularly chocolatey - more syrupy in general. It is very cheap and if you are just looking for something to top kids' ice creams then this will do just fine, but for anyone with more discerning tastebuds I'd pay more for a better product.

Takes me back... ... to the dessert bar at family buffet restaurants. It's a classic syrupy chocolate sauce. Sugar and cocoa - so it's sweet and bitter at the same time. I thought the consistency was a bit thicker than what other reviews have described. I didn't mind it actually - maybe because I just *had* to buy icecream to go with it. Much better than ice-magic which tastes like cocoa and oil. I imagine it could also be used for making milkshakes... drizzlying on brownies, etc. Probably the same stuff the cafes use on their fancy ice coffees. At $1. 80/600mL you can experiment with this all you like and not break the budget. Generous size and cheap price makes it perfect for families.

Budget buy, good for milkshakes! For the price point this is not a bad option. If a consumer was looking for this item and had a very limited budget - this is the go to. However, it does not compare to premium products - in fairness the price reflects that. I used this to make a milk shake at home using milk, ice, chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce. I also added a flake just to be a little fancy. The sauce, being sweet and a touch artificial tasting still worked well for this usage. If I was going to have the sauce on ice cream however, I would look for a more premium option.

Very sweet. I'm not sure this product was for us. It was an odd brown shade (not a dark chocolate colour), was very artificially sweet and poured out very thick. I don't think they flavour balance is quite right. We tried it on ice cream and drizzled on a cake but didn't love it. It tasted more artificial sugary sweet rather than rich and chocolateyOn this flip side, it was relatively affordable and Made in Australia with at least 97% Australian ingredients
Decadent Delight. I recently tried Woolworths Essentials Chocolate Topping and was pleasantly surprised by its rich chocolate flavor and thick, creamy consistency. The sauce comes in a convenient squeeze bottle that makes it easy to add a decadent touch to any dessert or snack. What I appreciated most about this chocolate sauce was how affordable it was without sacrificing on taste. I found it to be just as satisfying as more expensive brands, and it was a great value for the priceThat being said, I did notice that the sauce was quite sweet, which might not be to everyone's taste. Additionally, the thick consistency could make it difficult to squeeze out of the bottle at times. Overall, I would highly recommend Woolworths Essentials Chocolate Topping to anyone ... MoreDecadent Delight. So yummy! When I found this product in store, I noticed the low price and thought that it would not have a very nice flavour. I was so wrong! My family loved it. The topping is nice and thick and has a rich chocolate taste. We all enjoyed it on ice cream but I think my youngest would just eat it straight from the bottle! I don't usually purchase this type of product but if I need it in the future, I will definitely purchase the Essentials brand. It was delicious!
A Cheap Alternative. Noting that this is an Essentials brand, I equated that to the old ‘home brand’ quality compared to the other Woolies own brands that are available. I had this over ice cream (which I hadn’t had ice cream and chocolate topping in years!!) and it was ok. The consistency was a bit thin and there was an odd aftertaste (almost saccharine-y or artificial despite neither being an ingredient) but I’m sure if we were to blend it into a milkshake it would taste better. This is a solid alternative to the name brand and about half the price, the container is recyclable, 97% Australian ingredients. Not for me at this moment but I’m sure we’ll polish off the bottle!
Cheap and cheerful. As my summary says, this is a cheap and cheerful chocolatey syrupy sauce. Seriously, for that price ($1. 80) and the quantity(600ml) you get, it should be a frequent product in the shopping trolley if you have kids. It is a good addition to milk for milkshakes and topping for ice cream and tastes great. Perhaps it’s not quite of the calibre of the more expensive syrups but it’s more economical for struggling family budgets at the moment.
Good but not great. Essentials Chocolate Topping 600ml is an ok product that didn't quite meet my expectations. While the chocolate flavour is decent, it's somewhat artificial and lacks depth. Additionally, the texture is quite thick and doesn't pour easily, making it difficult to use in a variety of applications. I also found the price point to be a bit high for what is essentially a basic chocolate sauce. Overall, while it's an ok product, I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase it again, especially considering that there are better quality chocolate toppings available on the market.
Sweet and artificial yet affordable. I had not tried this product before but found it easily on the shelf with other like products. I put this in a homemade milkshake. It flavoured the milkshake well but the taste was very sweet and artificial. I would not suggest this is a product for an adult with refined tastebuds. Although this is very cost effective at $1. 80 I would not re-purchase it as I would not use it.
