Poorly finished ball end. Had to reshape before I used it. Grip is nice. Paint isn’t going to last, more for decoration. Bought 4 different sizes of these hammers all have the same quality issues.

A solid American made hammer

This, like every Estwing hammer I own is a quality, all steel, American made tool. I like the feel of the synthetic grip, it provides a non-slip, yet comfortable grip. The finish is nice, but that's not really important for a tool that gets tossed in a tool bag and job site. Estwing hammers are very tough, the one-piece steel construction provides strength, and a very solid feel. The steel handle goes all the way through the synthetic grip, so there isn't a soft spot near the end of the handle which I really like. I recommend this hammer to anyone needing a heavier ball peen hammer that will see hard work, this hammer is certainly built to take it. I actually recommend all Estwing hammers, they are built for tough jobs as well as small jobs. Bought it for use on suspension component work. Solid steel construction and nice handle grip. Swing as hard as you like. Nothing to break.

Estwing makes the finest hammer tools. I saw this one on markdown and bought it thinking it was slightly smaller than the Estwing I have and love. Its the same hammer but, I am good with that.I have my Father’s Estwing hatchet from the 50’s and it’s still awesome.

Great product, was tired of wooden handles letting me down. The hammer has a different "feel," as the handle steel offsets the head weight somewhat, but very easy to figure it out. Only reason I said this is the first whack and I hit my finger (great start for a new tool), so I would suggest easing into it and not go gung ho right up front.I have a half dozen or so Estwing Hammers I picked up over they years, not a clinker in the bunch. Couple 28oz. claw hammers I've had for at least 25 years, still like the day I bought them.

Solid, quality hammer
10 January 2014

Estwing is pretty well known for making top quality hammers, so it doesn't come as a surprise that this is one of them. It's very well balanced, has a nice, firm grip and holds up well to repeated usage. The only thing you really need to decide when buying one of these is what weight you want. At 1.5 pounds, I find this one can provide some real power behind each blow without feeling heavy or fatiguing, but this will likely vary from person to person. If you don't know what weight/size to get, go to any store that sells hammers and check out the different weights - even if its not the same brand, 24 oz. is 24 oz., so it should be a good test. But if you want to test out the balance and grip, you definitely have to try the same hammer.

That hammer is the bomb. Nice grip, rigid heavy feel in the hand. Just what I needed for hammering out dents in excavator doors. Highly recommend!

The hammer being probably the first made-by-man tool, is kind of silly to get too analytical about but that being said, the Estwing models with the one piece shank are my first choice when grabbing a new hammer. The only reason you'd ever need to replace one of these is if you're is lost or stolen.I have the 8 oz and the 24 oz ball-peen as well as several other Estwing models with the same one-piece shank. That we use to work on tractors, offroad vehicles, and other farm and construction equipment; and while machining, welding, and demolishing. The steel is properly forged and brushes up nice-as-new if they happen to be neglected for a while. I once lost an Estwing and found it a couple years later in a field where I lost it. The steel is properly forged and brushes up nice-as-new if they happen to be neglected for a while. I once lost an Estwing and found it a couple years later in a field where I lost it. I brushed it up and it was good-to-go.My first Estwing belonged to my Grandpa, and I received it when my grandma moved off their farm. I'm still using it. The claw hammer is easily 40 years old and the old grip has darkened a little. The polyurethane (I think thats what they are made of) grips are extremely durable and bonded well to the handle. The polyurethane gripped Estwings are far superior to the leather gripped Estwings as they are grippier, and better balanced. Although the leather grips look cool, they are slick, and heavy in the grip. The poly grips seem to be oil and chemical resistant (at least for the chemicals mine have been kicked around in).If I had to frame a whole house without the use of the nailgun, I'd likely choose something something of more modern materials, with a bit more shock absorption, knowing that it wouldn't last as long as the steel shank.
