Ethique - Solid Face Cleanser Bar - Deep Green (100g)

I love this cleanser! I've tried a few of the others, and this one's definitely for me. I like that it doesn't have coconut oil in it, and the ingredient list is pretty plain. I appreciate the pleasantly mild scent (I'm not a perfume fan - strongly scented consmetics give me headaches and nausea). I like that it comes in two blocks and the shape means they get max airflow underneath on my wooden soap rack which helps them to stay dry and last well. They last ages! I double wash to get sunscreen off and my skin never gets that tight overwashed feeling, it stays soft even without a moisturiser. I even love the soft minty colour. This bar is perfect for my hormonal, middle aged skin and has improved/reduced the intensity of the menstrual breakouts I've been having (as I move towards perimenopause I suspect?) I have a mixed complexion, I'm mostly a comfortably oily skin, but have dry patches, am sensitive to many things, as well as suffering from eczema, itchiness, and contact dematitis. Clean green seems to soothe my skin, doesn't irritate me at all, effectively cleans gardening dirt, sunscreen, dust and pollen, yet manages to leave my skin feeling plump, smooth and moisturised. Magical.

I would usually use an oil cleanser followed by a gel cleanser in the evenings however I have been trying to reduce the amount of plastic I use and my skin care is one area where I use a lot of single use plastics. I switched up my cleansing routine so I use the superstar cleanser followed by this and it is working really well. My skin looks healthy and feels comfortable. I can’t really tell whether I prefer this cleanser or the bliss bar so I have been switching up between the two. I do have problematic skin (super oily and acne prone despite being in my 30s) and I was worried that changing up my skincare products would cause breakouts but thankfully it hasn’t. I couldn't decide between Deep Green and the unscented Bliss Bar, but went for this because it said it was better for oily skin, which is my main concern, where the Bliss Bar is marketed to normal to dry skin. "Natural" beauty consumers don't want to hear this but essential oils, especially citrus, can be extremely irritating to the skin, almost all dermatologists will confirm, as will a simple google search. Deep Green contains both sweet orange essential oil and limonene, but I had hoped it wouldn't be so strong (since ethique doesn't list the concentrations of ingredients on the website) and that I could get away with it as I don't typically have very sensitive skin. I love the company and what they stand for but I wish natural skincare companies would stop packing their products full of essential oils, and that they'd list the concentrations of ingredients. If I didn't care about the ecological footprint of returns, I would have already returned this, but as it stands I will likely try to gift it and buy the Bliss Bar next time.
