A terrific "place anywhere there's WiFi" camera

It easily connects to your existing WiFi network and has terrific video and picture quality thanks to it's high-resolution 2k image sensor. The spotlight functionality is enough to light up a side yard or a small front yard, and as long as you have WiFi and sunlight, you can place the camera anywhere.----------------------First impressions and setup:The camera is packed efficiently in its box, with the mounting hardware, instruction literature, and a USB-C charge cable (used for initial setup) in the package. The mounting hardware is easy to install - you'll want a drill for this step, however, as it makes putting the screws in easier. The Eufy app will walk you through every step of setup. To test how easy this is, I had my 10 year old son do this step. It took him about 5 minutes to get it done from start to finish. The only good thing to know here is that you'll want to use the included USB-C cable to charge the camera a few hours prior to setup.----------------------Usage:The camera is super easy to operate in the app. You'll have access to play back past recorded events, view a live feed from the camera (including the ability to talk to people through the camera), control the built-in spotlight, and adjust how the camera works (sensitivity settings, nighttime recording settings, and even the color temperature of the spotlight). There are two features you may want for this camera but are not there - continuous recording and SD card storage. Owners of Eufy's HomeBase will also be interested to know that this camera, like any of the older Solo cameras, does not use the HomeBase for storage.----------------------Drawbacks:Besides the storage and continuous recording things, the main drawback of this camera is it must be installed in such a way that it receives a few hours of sunlight a day. This means you won't be able to install it under eaves of your house, in a tree, or on the north side of your home.----------------------Conclusion:I'm a fan of the Eufy Solo Cam S40 security spotlight cam 2k. It does everything I need it to do and does those things well. The motion recordings work every time, and even setup 75 feet outside of my home, the WiFi connection is perfect. If you're wanting a camera you can place on an outbuilding of your property or even outside of your home where there is no power, this is a perfect fit.

Another great product from Eufy!

The spot light on the camera is also pretty bright it can light up my whole backyard, which is pretty impressive for a solar 4K camera and floodlight. The video quality is top notch, the camera itself is just superior to everything that I’ve used and I couldn’t be happier to get them and secure my house!

Disappointing Durability, Not Truly Waterproof
18 August 2023

I purchased this security camera with high hopes, especially given its advertised waterproof feature. Unfortunately, my experience has been far from satisfactory. Within a year of use, water managed to seep inside the camera, causing irreparable damage. This is particularly disappointing considering the camera was marketed as solar waterproof, which should have provided peace of mind for outdoor use. While the camera’s features may be appealing, their significance dwindles when the product’s longevity is severely compromised. It’s frustrating to invest in a security camera that doesn’t hold up to its core promise of being waterproof. Although we work hard to ensure high-quality standards through multiple quality checks, we regrettably still come across defective products occasionally.Unfortunately, your order expired its 12-month warranty on Oct 31th, 2022. Since this order is already outside the warranty period, I'm afraid an exchange is not possible. We register all defects and evaluate them statistically. These statistics enable us to identify any increased defect rates or concentrated product problems, so thank you for letting us know about your product. If the item you're having issues with happens to be from a different order that was placed within the past 12 months, please let me know and I will look into it. Again, I apologize for any and all disappointment!Thank you, and have a good day."This is pretty disappointing because my camera is in great condition and worked just fine until it abruptly quit. I have also purchased their door lock, doorbell cam x2 and robo vac along with referring friends, neighbors but this makes me second guess buying anymore of their products since the back end support is not there. Some other notable flaws in this camera:- It needs to be reset every few months because the motion detection will not work.- Motion detection works inconsistently at night (which is concerning) and will only pick up a few motions throughout the night but my doorbell camera picks up most if not all activity.-Depending on where you live and how much sun you get, you will have to take the camera down in winter and charge it manually.-I get false motion in the backyard around the same time 4:20am from time to time so I have to reset it. (this is frustrating because there shouldn't be any motion in my backyard at that time so it is very alarming to be woken up to the specific backyard chime we have set. (especially when your full on asleep and get woken up expecting an intruder)I am a big believer in honest reviews and I researched numerous cameras before I went with Dufy, I guess it's time to start researching again. Just my 2 cents on my experience with this product and how long it lasts.

Eufy Security Spotlight Cam Solar 2K is the perfect security to setup with no wires! Once it is charged you are ready to monitor your home, buildings, backyard, wherever you need security and a 600 lumen spotlight. Using the app, you get instant notifications of movement or motion, control the camera, lighting, how and when to monitor, motion sensor and more. The app keeps everything it monitors including videos under the history logs. This camera can video in color or black/white, color night vision, live viewing, along with two way audio. You can enable it while away and even setup a timer for any time you want it alarmed. It also allows multi user access to the app as well. The camera and solar panel are well made of quality materials and has IP67 all weather protection so that it will monitor in all weather. I highly recommend the Eufy Security Spotlight Cam Solar 2K for monitoring whatever space you need watched and easy to setup without an wires!

Reliable, consistent, all-in-one security camera!

I have used several WiFi security camera brands over the years, including D-Link, Reolink, TP Link and Eufy. I have found that the Eufy has always been reliable and consistent where it matters: reliable and fast notifications of motion, good battery performance, good resolution, and excellent remote connectivity from the mobile app. These Solo S40 solar cameras improve where it matters and now offer a complete set-and-forget security camera solution:I now have four of these Solo S40 cameras and have used them for several months. My pros and cons are below.Pros:- one camera now provides spotlight, 2K resolution, solar panel, and internal storage (no base station required) all in one device- set up is simple and fast (make sure you use a 2.4GHz WiFI network or ensure ‘band-steering’ is turned off on your modem/router)- the Eufy app is well-polished and professional, and works on Android, iOS (including iPad and the newer Apple Silicon Macs)- it is completely free to use this camera - there are no subscriptions or ongoing costs. If you want cloud storage, you can pay a subscription for that, but it’s not required to get the full use of this product- it feels solid and well made. My cameras have probably seen more rain than shine in the last 2-3 months, and they’ve had no issues at all with water leaks- the spotlight is very bright for it’s size (it is also adjustable in brightness and warmth)- the 2K resolution is very clear for most purposes (like seeing number plates and faces)- the notifications are prompt (within a few seconds of the activity) and if configured, you can get an image of a person's face within the notification- downloading notifications from the app to your phone is fast and easy- the solar panel charges the camera battery a couple of percent per day as long as it gets a few hours of sun. I’ve been using my cameras for a few months now and they do maintain 100% battery, which essentially means you can 'set and forget' this camera because you never really need to take it down to charge- the internal storage can save several weeks of motion captures- you can talk through this camera (using the app) and it’s actually reasonably loud and clear (much better than older Eufy cameras or other brands) - so you can talk to visitors through the camera- there is an alarm built in which is reasonably loud, but it’s not going to really alert the neighbourhoodCons:- One thing to note is that this camera doesn’t record 24/7 - it only records when it detects motion.- I also don’t believe the camera records to an external hard drive or network storage (might be a deal breaker for some)- The motion detection is very good, however, sometimes you miss the first part of an activity because it takes a second or two to detect and start recording the motion- If someone takes the camera you would lose all your footage (the same for most WiFi cameras without a base station)Ultimately, I think this is the best all in one security camera package you can buy and I highly recommend it to family and friends.

Solar-powered and 2K video

This is my first Eufy camera and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I've been pleasantly surprised. It was fairly easy to setup and install, and it's worked well so far. I get motion alerts and the battery has remained at 100% during the day after dipping down to 98% overnight. I have it facing south and tilted down slightly, so that's definitely optimal for charging. The Eufy docs say 2 hours of sunlight will charge it and from what I've seen that seems believable. Best of all, the 2K video is crystal clear and detailed--much better than what I've been used to.I live out in the country and I've installed this at my entrance gate which is nearly 300' from the wifi router in my house. The camera only supports 2.4GHz and that made it slightly more difficult to do the initial setup, but that also gives it excellent range. Even 300' outside of my house it's getting several bars and seems to stay connected just fine. The camera has infrared for night, and it makes for pretty clear video even out 50' or more. In addition, the camera has a visible light spotlight if you want to use that to see things in color at night. I've chosen not to have the light come on automatically (I'd prefer to keep the camera less conspicuous since it's down at my gate), but it's nice to have that option if I need it later. The audio works surprisingly well, too. Some neighbors were having a loud party one night about 1/4 mile away, and you could pretty clearly hear the music and noise in the video clips.Unlike the other camera systems I've had, the Eufy stores the videos locally on the camera and not in the cloud. I'm sure this keeps their costs down and makes it so a subscription isn't needed, but I don't think that necessarily makes it more secure. The camera has 8GB of onboard storage which should be plenty. The downside with local storage is if someone decides to steal your camera. At least maybe you'll have the thumbnail image of them taking it, though. It also has onboard AI to only alert on what it thinks are people. In my case, I'm interested in animals and vehicles, too, so I left it on all motion detected. I did try the humans-only, though, and it was fooled at night by a reflective sign and some critter that ran underneath. Still, if you wanted that setting it would cut down on a lot of non-human motion alerts. There are a couple of things I do wish were better, like including more options for mounting it. For example, a magnetic mount has always been very useful with my other cameras. This one just comes with the screw-mounted base. Lastly, I can't seem to slide forward and backward in time while playing a recorded video. I'm sure that could be changed in the app, but for now I have to finish the whole video and then start over if I want to re-watch something.I plan to keep testing this for another few weeks. Unless I run into some problem, I like the S40 enough that I may buy a couple more for other locations. After having to keep the batteries charged in multiple outdoor cameras over the years, I'm excited to finally have a decent solar-powered option. Plus, it's also time to upgrade to some sweet 2K video.

The "Outdoor" Camera That Can’t Swim
29 July 2023

Ah, the Eufy Security SoloCam Outdoor Wireless 2K Solar Spotlight Camera, also know as the Eufy S40, a device that seems to have a rather ironic relationship with the great outdoors. It's an outdoor camera that's about as waterproof as a sugar cube.My first encounter with this camera ended with it developing an unexpected fear of water. It started malfunctioning due to water leakage. Yes, you heard it right, an outdoor camera that can't handle a bit of rain. It's like a fish that can't swim, a bird that's afraid of heights, a... well, you get the drift. So, I did the sensible thing and contacted the manufacturer. They agreed to replace the faulty unit. "Fantastic!" I thought, "A second chance!" "Fantastic!" I thought, "A second chance!" But oh, how I was mistaken. The replacement unit arrived and, for a while, it seemed like everything was going to be okay. But less than a year later, it too started leaking. It seems this camera has a shorter lifespan than a mayfly when faced with a bit of moisture.I reached out to the manufacturer again, hoping they'd be reasonable. But no, they told me I was out of luck. Apparently, their warranty is as leaky as their cameras. So here I am, stuck with an expensive brick that's supposed to be a state-of-the-art outdoor security camera. If you're considering buying this product, I'd suggest you also invest in a tiny raincoat for it. Or better yet, save yourself the headache and look elsewhere.

was good now terrible
1 August 2023

This camera started out fine, i was suprised by the length of the battery life and the ability to record a good distance from my house etc. Night footage was fine. Since the first 6 months I have been plauged with endless issues that have me spending hours on forums trying to figure out solutions. Everything from it simply wont record, to it records and saves but isnt viewable in the saved videos area, to its in the saved videos area but wont load when you try to watch it. Its latest fun thing its doing is that it sends me alerts for things after 4pm that i can view from the notifactions area on my phone but cannot find in the app anywhere. I genuinely think there must be someone at eufy who is trying to collapse the company to release such terrible updates one after the other. Theyre automatically updated and you cant turn off auto update. I have had issues with a variety of camera from arlos, swanns etc, this was my last "big spend final solution" camera that just makes me feel like I have been mugged once again. Will only be getting wired setups from now and will be looking for issues prior to purchase.
