I love this grinder. It is beautiful and elegant on my coffee station, which is important. Once it is programmed it is SUPER simple to pull highly consistent shots by weight. I'm new to prosumer espresso and I wanted to invest in a high quality grinder that would be easy to pull repeatedly consistent shots without thinking. I wanted my wife, who enjoys the drinks i make but is much less interested in the art of coffee making, to be able to pull her own shots and make drinks as well. No question, the simplicity of this machine and how it takes the guess work out of shot weight is key. Also, between weighing and timing the shot from the machine, it is nice to not have to weight the coffee manually also before preparing it.All that said, why i gave it a 4 and not a 5.- The buttons for programming it are NOT intuitive at all. The tradeoff is that it maintains that clean and elegant look (without lots of buttons), which is worth it honestly. But definitely keep the manual nearby in the beginning as you're getting it configured.- I have had to recalibrate the scale twice. This is also a somewhat tricky task requiring consultation of the manual. Out of the box it was off by about 2g.- The scale is a bit finicky. It will often throw an "FH" error when I push the grind button. It throws this error when the portafilter is NOT in the holder, which is good - designed to prevent grinding onto my counter. But it also often presents it when the prortafilter IS present. If there is any disturbance to the portafilter while it is sitting in the holder before I push grind, or if it has been sitting in there a long time, it will usually throw this error. Easy fix - just remove the portafilter for about 1sec to allow the scale to reset and then reinsert and push grind. Not a huge deal but seems like something they could have done better. This issue presents almost daily and took me some figuring to understand what was going on in the beginning.- the grind distribution angle is notably slanted forward, which results in the grind piling up toward the front of the portafilter. This means that (1) I MUST always use the dosing funnel (it comes with a beautiful metal one that magnets to the top of the portafilter) or else I will lose coffee on the counter top and (2) the coffee is not distributed evently in the portafilter and really needs WDT to make it uniform. I am using an Asso jack to distribute and level, but I don't believe it breaks up the front-loaded density of the grind in the portafilter adequately and so I get a somewhat lopsided extraction when viewing from my bottomless portafilter. I expect a grinder with a straight down grind distribution would probably do better in this regard. All that said, clearly i have some gripes, but really they are small and I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase.

Eureka Mignon Libra and Belleza Bellona - A Perfect Pairing

I was prepared for a steep learning curve and mediocre coffee in the beginning.I couldn’t be more pleasantly surprised at how straightforward these two machines have been to understand and get working harmoniously together after about 6-8 shots. The Eureka Mignon Libra came correctly calibrated when checked against an independent scale. The build quality is very high and the machine feels dense and solid. While single-dosing seems to be the preferred home enthusiast choice, the grind by weight function gives such a smooth and satisfying workflow that I feel it would please anyone no matter their experience level or skill. The included magnetic dosing funnel is very tall and does not allow coffee grounds to escape.I don’t fill the hopper. Even though it has a very nice fit, the beans are still exposed to air and light, so I put in the approximate amount of beans I might use in a day to try to keep the coffee as fresh as possible. The grinder works very well this way with minimal popcorning (with dark roasted espresso beans). I know it is not as good as single dosing but there is something to be said for the simplicity of the workflow. Many reviewers comment on the adjustment mechanism of the Eureka Mignon series of espresso grinders but I feel it is best to simply accept that one grinder can not accommodate every need, particularly since espresso grind adjustment occurs at such a precise level with minute adjustments. It would be irritating to grind coarse and then come back to try to dial back in to an espresso grind. I keep my old Baratza grinder on hand for pour over or other coarser grinding needs. The Libra adjustment knob is a pleasure to see, touch, and adjust. The touch screen controls work flawlessly as does the well designed portafilter holder. The Belleza Bellona is an incredible machine for the price and I simply can not imagine a better espresso machine value available anywhere. The solid warranty coverage through iDrinkCoffee is a wonderful bonus on top of what is already a stellar value. The machine arrived well packaged, damage-free and flawlessly finished. The build quality and predictability of interacting with the PID and machine controls is throughly satisfying. It is brewing great espresso for me already at 8-9 bars with a 1:2 ratio. Next, we will advance to the world of milk-based drinks and steaming! The iDrinkCoffee team has been outstanding to work with in answering questions and helping with order status and shipping needs. I love the very thorough and well-produced product demonstration videos as this was an important factor in understanding the products I was ordering. I look forward to trying the coffee subscription service and being a continuing customer as I am thoroughly impressed by this business, the value they offer, and their excellent level of support.Well that first double-shot has worn off. Time to go pull a second shot! Thank you for reading!

Excellent grinder! I replaced my Niche with this grinder (3 months ago) as I wanted to just weigh my beans for the day and be done. Just remove the top (check YouTube for the video) and clean out.Absolutely love it and really worth the money spent. I make anywhere from 2-5 coffees a day with it and have owned it for 3 months. It’s well made, not loud and very consistent. For the price it’s a bargain.

The Eureka Mignon Libra is a great grinder with a couple of design flaws.First of all, the grind-by-weight technology works really well. It makes workflow so much easier and it’s fantastic to have this tech available on a prosumer machine. Also, I haven’t had the problem that some people have reported of the machine not recognising the portafilter. I think those that complain about this may simply not be giving the machine time to tare its system. On the odd occasion that I do get the FH error message I just remove the PF, wait a second or two and reinsert it. I think those that complain about this may simply not be giving the machine time to tare its system. On the odd occasion that I do get the FH error message I just remove the PF, wait a second or two and reinsert it. It’s never really a problem. To me the key design flaw in this machine is that you have to use a portafilter funnel with it or else it sprays coffee grounds all over your counter. The angle of the spout is such that the grounds all pour into the back side of the PF basket (the side near the handle) and of course you can’t give the PF a shake to distribute the grounds because the machine is weighing the PF as it grinds. It seems to me this could have been avoided if Eureka had created a slightly more vertical funnel which deposited grounds in the middle of the PF basket. As it is Eureka actually supply a funnel with the machine, or at least they do in some countries (like the US). In Australia you have to buy a funnel separately, which you can do for $20 on Amazon or you can buy the slightly deeper Eureka one for around AUD100.The other thing I think is a design flaw is the knob to adjust the grind. This screws onto the rod that adjusts the burrs and there’s no way to calibrate the knob position so zero is just where the burrs are touching (for example). If Eureka had put splines instead of a thread on the end of the burr adjustment rod you could have pulled the knob off and then replaced it at the right angle/position to calibrate the grind setting.Alternatively Eureka could have added the sort of dial system which many people are offering as a 3D printed option for the Mignon series (see the Etsy website, for example). It would be easy for them to do and nicer to have it built into the grinder rather than having to buy an aftermarket accessory which will never really improve the machines looks. This goes for the other grinders in the Mignon series too of course. One more issue is the poor quality hopper. On a machine with an RRP of over AUD1200 I really would expect something better than the nasty plastic hopper and lid that ships with the machine. It’s such a fine looking machine otherwise that it really deserves better. The only other thing I’ll note here is that my grinder came with a scratch on the stainless steel PF holding bracket, as well as a loose connection on the motherboard which meant that the grind-by-weight tech didn’t work. The latter was fixed quickly by my local Eureka wholesaler and my retailer offered me compensation for the scratch which I was happy with. However, these two problems make a nonsense of the “100% tested” sticker which Eureka put on the machine.Despite these issues I’m very happy with the grinder. It makes my morning ritual easier and the weighing system is accurate enough to remove one variable from my workflow. It looks great on my countertop at home, the digital interface is simple and nice to use, and for the job it does I think it’s good value. If I was choosing from the Eureka lineup I’d definitely buy the Libra again.

Fantastic Reduction to Workflow but expensive..

Love this grinder. I'm new to high end espresso gear having moved up from an OXO conical burr grinder. I won't say much about tastes because that's mostly subjective but the reduction of work flow really gets me out the door in the morning and removes some of the barrier between me and my drinks for my girlfriend and I. I was skeptical about high end grinders and their true effectiveness on quality of espresso but what isn't snake oil is the time save and the enjoyment of keeping the scale in the drawer and and blindly trusting this grinder to get me from a full hopper to an empty hopper without much fret. I almost went with single dosing because anyone will tell you about how the DF64 is a great value but as soon as I saw myself shopping for vials to keep pre weighed beans in, I knew it was not going to be the right move for me. I bought this grinder for the aesthetics, build quality, and of course, the ease of use. FH error was a minor problem at first but after 3 days of use, it's not been a problem at all. I haven't expanded much into other coffee types so I can't speak on its functionality for pourover, press or any of that. This is an espresso forward grinder after all. I do wish that it could free grind into other containers for utility, portafilters only. 4 stars only because the price is insane. Perhaps in some years the market will have more options for grind-by-weight closer to the $500 mark but I wasn't going to wait.

That was never the case with the Mazzer Super Jolly. The only 2 very minor complaints I have with the grinder are in the materials used in the construction. The hopper lid has a dimple right in the middle from injection molding. The lid being made of clear plastic, that dimple is very noticable. A black plastic lid, dimple free would look so much better and more in line with the overall high quality look of the grinder.Second, the aluminum parts used behind the portafilter fork are very soft, and scratched easily from the dosing funnel rubbing against it. Once I saw the scratches I of course modified how I inserted the portafilter into the fork. The grinder makes beautiful fluffy grounds and, once recalibrated, doses out consistent, accurate weights.Bottom line, it looks great, is extremely quiet and does what it's designed to do efficiently. Now to look for a replacement lid cause this one is driving me crazy. LoL.Thanks to Tony and Clive Coffee for the great customer service!

Quite and excellent grind by weight functionality
18 November 2024

I upgraded from a Sette 270 because it was noisy. This grinder is significantly quieter. I love the accuracy of the grind by weight feature which saves me a step in my morning espresso routine. I do like the grind quality; it seems to be a step up for the Sette 270. I do agree with some people's comments on the cheap plastic hopper for a machine in this price range. It feels thin and cheap. It would have been nice to see a glass hopper or even a thicker gauge plastic. That being said, it is not a deal breaker in my opinion. The grinder itself is heavy and if weight equals quality, this machine is of high quality.

The Amazing Eureka Mignon Zero
24 September 2024

Purchased Red Mignon Zero 9/5. The ordering was very easy, the grinder arrived in less than a week. This was a pleasure to buy from Comiso.I just love the grinder. It is well built and operates smoothly without any significant noise. It is very easy to use. After I dialed the grind it stays very consistent. There is very small amount of coffee retained in the machine thanks to the blower. The adjustment for the grind is continuous and very fine. A couple of things I would improve: the markings on adjustment knob are hard to read, and the holder for the supplied dosing cup is just too flimsy. But these are nitpicks really, I could live with what I got.
