Going from the Breville 870XL to this gem is, well...EUREKA! We stepped it up after our Breville kicked the knock box and boy is it a game changer. Just the weight of it alone lets you know this mighty machine is packed full of grinding power. The touch screen is bright and bold, making it easy to read. We strictly use it for one cup servings, but it's so fast that it would be great for grinding larger amounts, such as for a french press. There is a small dial at the top right corner of the machine that is used for choosing the grind size. This was easy to use and figure out, but this is probably because we watched a YouTube video on how to actually dial it in. Otherwise, there would be WAY more waste...and money in the swear jar.Overall, this grinder is perfect ... MoreGoing from the Breville 870XL to this gem is, well...EUREKA! I had high hopes when I received my Eureka Mignon Silenzio Espresso Grinder yesterday. But could never get the grind to be 'espresso' level, much less 'Turkish' as the video implied. Sure I have a replacement coming, and I'm hoping my replacement unit will finally produce the espresso grind implied in the products title and frankly, what is promised. If you turn the stepless knob to fine (while running), the unit will eventually stop grinding (but getting close), but making a stuck motor sound, If you try push the button to grind again, it will make the stuck motor sound and not start without significant turns to the coarser on the stepless knob. So by the time the grinder starts, it's a super coarse grind. bummer. So if you want to make some French press, I have a lot of coffee I can send you. (sarcasm)FWIW, the cheap decals denoting model name are crooked on the case, and not firmly attached. The unit feels solid, and after taking the burrs apart, the unit is constructed well on the inside from what I can see. It should operate properly, which is why I'm opting for a replacement unit. We'll see.

Apparently not so.In an email response from Seattle Coffee Gear support asking what can be done, their response was (a direct quote): "The best thing that we can suggest in this case is to try using different beans since dark or medium-dark roasted beans are not advisable on these machines since they tend to clog the burrs easily." Sorry, but given a choice between keeping my favorite beans and keeping the Specialize, the beans win every time.I wish I'd known of this limitation before I bought the Specializa. Had I known, I would not have bought it. It's too late to return it, or I would. If you prefer medium dark or dark roast coffees, I do not recommend this grinder.

The customer service is second to none with idrinkcoffee.com. My order came fast and in perfect shape. It is a gorgeous machine and grinds my beans very fast. The resulting grind is even and very fluffy. The Eureka is very consistent each grind. And there is very little noise compared to my old Breville Smart grinder. It is way heavier than it looks so is very stable on the counter and has a very small footprint. It takes a few tries to get the time and grind size to your liking so I bought some cheap beans to experiment with. The digital display is bright and easy to read and once you arrive at your favourite settings you can lock them in so nobody can change them. I never thought I would spend $800CA on a grinder but now I know what the officianados are talking about. It is good value for some but if all you drink is take-out coffee, this high-level performance and cost is not for you!Rob
So I bought this grinder almost a year ago from first in coffee I was looking to upgrade an old Baratzza grinder which has served me well but showing its age. I really liked the Ceado and Mazzer grinders but the problem with those and any grinder like that is they are commercial from the ground up; not designed to fit in a normal space under a counter even with shortened hoppers offered it can be a challenge. So i did some research and came across this one and saw that this one had all the same features as the larger true commercial grinders that Eureka makes, a i would rate this as more of a prosumer machine then commercial but i saw some good videos and reviews in other places and i was sold. So i did some research and came across this one and saw that this one had all the same features as the larger true commercial grinders that Eureka makes, a i would rate this as more of a prosumer machine then commercial but i saw some good videos and reviews in other places and i was sold. So now having this for almost a year I can give some very good feedback, the build quality is amazing the motor is silent and feels very strong, the grind speed is way faster then my old grinder as well as the consistency is way better then the old grinder it looks nice sitting next to my expobar and it's less messy then my old grinder, i like how you can close the hopper and take it off with beans in it especially useful if a bean gets stuck between the burrs you have a way to dislodge it without having to completely empty the machine. Now some things I don't like or I would change, the hopper isn't tinted to protect beans from sunlight, so if you place this grinder in your kitchen make sure to put it in a place away from a window as this can effect the taste of your coffee should definitely be standard at this price point. Unlike my baratzza you need tools to access the burrs, yes that is typical of grinders at this level based on commercial machines but luckily you don't need to access very often unless you use frequently and need to deep clean or dislodge a bean. The latch that shuts off the bean hopper so you can remove it seems a little cheap for the pricepoint but it does the job so far haven't had any issues but i think there is room for improvement. Overall my experience with this grinder is awesome, i wouldn't hesitate to buy it again, I would hope if the company does a revision of this unit that they address some of the issues that i feel could be better but overall it's a great unit with professional features and feel and is very well suited for anyone just beginning or looking to step into real prosumer territory for the first time.
Upgraded to this from my Compak K3 Touch of about 6 years, which was my first grinder, so I can only speak in comparison to this. Much better consistency with the grind and I found better clarity with the flavour. The noise is also much quieter so it's good for morning coffees while everyone else is asleep. The build quality is superb and it's surprisingly heavy and robust given its small footprint. The touchscreen is also a fantastic user-friendly touch. You can manually set a "single shot" or "double shot" timer and there's a stopwatch timer up to a minute so that you can determine how long to set the timer. My ***** portafilter with a funnel attached doesn't fit on top of the holder beneath the grinder outlet, so I had to remove the holder. I purchased this grinder as a replacement for a Baratza Vario that I had used for several years. The Vario worked well but since I now make mostly espresso drinks I found it somewhat inconsistent in grind quality and couldn't get as fine a grind as needed for some beans. Since I also have an old Baratza Maestro that works fine for the rare occasions when I want to make pour-over or french press I decided that a dedicated, step less grinder for espresso made sense. I also needed one that would fit under our relatively low kitchen cabinets. This grinder seemed like the perfect option.I had a problem with the first Specialita shipped by SCG in that it would occasionally just count down and not run the motor as others have reported. At first I thought it was jamming, but a call to SCG tech support revealed that it was likely an electrical problem. They were quick to offer me a replacement with free return shipping. Excellent customer service! The replacement has been working flawlessly and produces a nice, fluffy, even grind. It took a while to get the grind adjusted, but once done, the grind was perfectly consistent. I found that very small adjustments of grind dial were all that was needed for precise changes to the grind to adjust for the various light or medium roast beans that I use. Initially I found it difficult to fill the portafilter without getting some grinds on the kitchen counter so I purchased a 3rd party funnel and now everything stays clean.Since I usually make just one cup a day, I also purchased a 3rd party single dose bin with a bellows to help clear out retained grinds. It works perfectly. When I put 18 grams in I get 18 grams out to within a few tenths of a gram.Overall I'm very pleased with this grinder. It's also very fast, about 8 seconds for 18 grams, and quiet. It feels like a real quality piece of equipment. Highly recommended.
Context: upgraded from a Breville Barista Express to this grinder and a Profitec Pro 300 machine.Significant improvement in grind quality. Much more consistent, more adjustable, much better flavor, and much quieter. Grinds an 18 gram dose right around 7.5 seconds. The adjustment dial was zeroed appropriately, and it took roughly five shots to dial in after unboxing - two shots that clogged the basket, one gusher, one slow and bitter, and the fifth tasted better than the shot I bought from the cafe that supplied the beans.Dose is consistent enough, and I haven't been bothered with retention. On the BBE, I single dosed every shot using a 3D printed hopper with bellows - the grind was so inconsistent it was the only way to ensure any consistency. On the mignon, I printed a single dose hopper and bellows and have yet to feel the need to swap out the stock hopper. Every few days I pull out the scale and weigh the dose, and each time it's accurate plus or minus 0.2 grams - close enough for me. This has really improved my morning ritual and removed what was otherwise unnecessary complexity in my espresso routine. Less math homework, more delicious espresso.A few small gripes. The adjustment knob is small. Too small for fine adjustments. I'm printing a larger knob for it as I write this review. The portafilter holding fork is sharp and unfinished. I wish they'd sand down the edges at the factory before I sliced myself up installing it, especially considering what they charge for a replacement.Overall, very impressed. It appears well built, it works great, and it's smaller than I expected. Plus, there's a ton of 3D printed accessories out there on thingiverse - like angled bases to improve single dosing, larger knobs, and single dose hoppers. Cost to performance, is it twice as good as a Facile or half as good as an Atom 75? I don't know, but I'm satisfied with the results.
Iv'e had this grinder for 18 months. Overall pleased. I don't waste as any beans now that I have a timed grind. I regularly clean the burrs, however after a year the motor would seem to seize/slow. Hmm. Removed the bottom burr (normally I just remove the top to get to the bottom to clean it). Under the bottom burr is just enough space for oil/bean dust to cake up. This mixture was so densely packed in this space it was the obvious source of the problem. After cleaning this out it worked great, and now I take this extra cleaning step about once every 3 or 4 months. FYI - the nut holding the bottom burr assembly is left-hand-thread. Use a small piece of wood dowel (from the front, where the chute assembly is removed) or similar to stop the assembly from spinning while ... MoreIv'e had this grinder for 18 months. Overall pleased. I see why the $50 is charged to dial in this machine for users. Because you will waste A LOT OF BEANS figuring it out on your own. There are a lot of jams it seems, as mentioned by others as well, but you can get there. The instructions from Italy are worthless, start a campfire with them. Oh yeah, it is hard to believe that an Italian company would go through all the effort to produce this heavy, super quiet machine, only to put this stamped metal holder on it. Actually, you put it on and adjust it to your portafilter. It BARELY does the job. All owners of this grinder series should get the new, beefier version when it comes out. Hint, Hint Italy.Hopper, I can see this breaking sometime in the future. Lovely design, crystal clear plastic but not of a strength that I have long term faith in. Maybe I'll be surprised.Quiet? Yes, definitely. YES, DEFINITELY. My previous Baratza Sette 270 was SO LOUD that I considered adding a silencing chamber like the ones used for commercial smoothie blenders in shops. Seriously, it's that loud. Not what you want to hear as you are easing into your espresso ritual.Overall, it's a great little machine but misses the mark on some components. Value rating will come after 8-12 months of use.
