I bought the red hydraulics for 10, 12, 16, 18, 14 snare and 22 bass drum. I have a DW Acrylic drum set. On the toms I used the drum dial with batter 70 and resonant 75. Snare and bass just did by ear. I connected 1 small condenser Mic in front into a small mixer. I was absolutely blown away at how good they sounded. I'm 55 and never had drums sound like this. This will be my go to drum heads going forward and I've tried just about every option out there. Can't wait to hear these with each drum Mic'd through our mixer and PA. Give these a try, especially on acrylics.

I remember the hydraulics from back when I was in high school in the 70's... was curious to take a walk down nostalgia lane and try these out... they sound pretty fabulous actually... obviously not for everyone. Playing feel is like gelatin but they wallop out a huge fat fundamental tone that has a lot to recommend itself. You like those drummer gels... this is like the whole head is a darn gel! I put them on my home studio kit for recording and I think they are going to sound great. If you are into the 70's / retro sound you might want to experiment with these... they definitely sound different than conventional heads... "better" is just an opinion right? Plus they look sick on my green drums... that's much is undisputable.

I wasn't sure about these I bought 8",10",12", 16", and 22" for the kicker. I put them on with Evans Resonant Glass Tom Heads on a Ludwig epic drum kit. My band members were impressed with the tone and sound the drums produced with these heads. I'm sold on them I may put them on my rehearsal kit and practice kit for the fun of it. Price is $$$ but worth the sound. I have not used them a lot yet, but as we are gearing up this summer we will see how they stand up. I haven't had to retune them much at all so I'm very pleased. I think I could put these heads on about any kit and make it show ready.

I bought these for the damping factor. A little less volume, sustain and ringing for the recording studio. We also jam in the studio space which is not large, and the damping helps to keep the drums from being overwhelming. I added Evans EMAD (externally mounted adjustable damping) heads for the bass drum as well, and we are all very pleased with the tone and volume (on Gretsch Birch shells).The color is not without value. They just look cool. My set is burgundy, so the look is complete!
I recently changed from Evans blue hydraulic to the new red 360 series. I was not planning to put this series on my small 8x10 tom to keep a difference between it and the rest of my toms. After tuning my other toms in I had to do this one also, wow! I have the tension much tighter on this drum and I have great response, a deep punch yet it is bright, very warm and for the accent sound I have used this tom for the new head is perfect. I feel like I have better response and a defined tone that projects well and I use no dampening of any type, without an uncontrolled over ring.
I'm not sure why hydraulic heads get so much hate. I think it's just ignorance, they have a sound, a distinct sound, that works for a lot of genres. If it's not your cup of tea, move on. I prefer G2 heads, they are my go to. But I put a set of these heads on a small bop kit I play at church and they are perfect. Yes they cut down volume, but that was a good thing. Yes they don't ring out for days, again, a good thing in my situation. On top of looking cool and being easy to tune, they were a no brainer. They ring, they have sustain, they are not "cardboard boxes" if you take the time to tweak them , they sound great. Deep, dry thud. I've been using the hydraulic heads since the late 80's and I just can't say enough good about them. For those that say they make your drums sound like "cardboard boxes" you need your hearing checked. Good tuning skills will make these heads sing and that's really all it takes. No need for Moongels or other ring control devices with these as the oil does that for you. Just fit them on and bang away. It's really that easy.
Hydraulics, been using them for 30 years. I can tune them high, medium or low and they always deliver the sound I'm going for. They tune easily and consistently if you know anything about how to tune. I use them as both batter and resonant heads together on toms and as a batter on snare. I can pitch them anywhere on the spectrum and get any pitch I need. Durable beyond belief. I've used all the colors on many different kits and have never been disappointed in their performance. No need for moon gels or dampening of any kind. Simply the best.
Sounds better than hydraulics I used to use. Sill has some ring and is great as a batter and experiment with different bottom heads. Makes my floor tom fill with tone and then a nice round decay. Also different hoops wil affect the sound as well. I have s-hoops on this drum and it just kills. This is sill has the tubby hydraulic sound with the right amount of zing. Live a little and try one.
I've been playing drums over 35 years and have played many brands of drums, heads and so on...I have played everything from blues to top 40 to hard rock and metal for the most part and was looking for a more controlled sound, not a completely dead thumpy plasticy sound. These heads have got to be the Worst I have ever played! The Only thing they've got going for them is the red color. If Evans were to remove the oil from within the two plies, this would be a great head. But the oil is what ruins them. I just think... WHAT was Evans thinking when they came up with this big FAIL?!!
