BFF: ExOfficio Briefs

For a number of years, I've purchased ExOfficio for extended travel to maximize fun time and minimize laundry worries. On a week-long motorcycle trip in the Alps through several countries, my ExOfficio briefs were comfortable, got an easy wash in the shower at the end of the day, and dried quickly. Next week I'll be in England for several weeks -- same scenario. My love affair with ExOfficio began when I learned that women in the military in tropic conditions wear the brand. I trusted their wisdom. Did I mention I wear them for tennis also? No heavy, sweaty, undies for me.

No longer "full-cut" briefs.

My wife and I have been buying and wearing ex-officio clothing for over 20 years. We have always been thrilled and satisfied, until now. If it weren't for the two dozen women's full-cut briefs that are already in my wife's drawer, we might not have realized the mistake that ex-officio had made. The full cut briefs in my wife's drawer are truly briefs, the waist band sits at the waist just at or above the belly-button. This is what "full-cut" means. When these new briefs arrived, the label said "full-cut" but the brief itself was actually a bikini cut with the waist band falling a good 2-2.5 inches below the actual waist line (belly button). That said, we can no longer purchase ex-officio briefs for my wife and will be forced to find a substitute.I see no reason why the design should have been changed other than to save money in material. Considering the premium price we (gladly) pay for ex-officio, I find such a gross design failure to be unacceptable, especially if it was for a cost savings. That said, if you change the design of the brief this radically, you should NOT continue to call them "full-cut." You need to clearly explain in the product description that this is a new design.

I have about 25 pairs of these Give and Go bikini briefs, model 1, bought over a period of about 8-10 years. It's all I wear. I add new colors regularly. I've LOVED how comfortable and durable they are. This new model 2.0 has thinner top elastic, much thinner leg elastic that either binds or rides up, and the sizing has changed so I wear a size smaller than before (and holding them up together, the old and new ARE the same size). So do note the new sizing which is in fact more true to true sizing. So. . . they're now nothing special whereas before they were the best bikini briefs I've ever worn (and I'm 70 so I've worn a LOT of kinds). Now I have to be looking for a new brand and am sad that I won't be able to wear these forever.

PERFECT FOR ME!
19 July 2022

I go these, in black, to wear on five-day backpack trip in the Sierra (California). I wanted underwear that I could wear for several days, that would dry quickly if it got wet, would keep me cool in the heat of the day, and could double as swimwear bottoms -- and after a dip in a cold alpine lake it HAD to dry quickly out there in the wilderness before nightfall! Oh, and -- of course -- it had to be TOTALLY COMFORTABLE. This hipster fit me like a glove and satisfied ALL of my requirements. This is highly unusual for me because I am short, and while I only weigh about 107 pounds, my butt and thighsare generously proportioned. I liked these so much that I bought a second pair. Ordinarily I would NEVER buy plain undies this expensive, but these are totally worth it ... MoreI go these, in black, to wear on five-day backpack trip in the Sierra (California). Perfect and plus sized

First of all, I appreciate that these briefs are available in plus size. I’m happy with 3x, but I encourage ExOfficio to consider going up to 5x. So many travel- and sports-focused companies act like only skinny people need high quality, travel friendly gear. These briefs were a godsend when our luggage was lost on the way to Scotland. I arrived with the clothes I was wearing and the extra set in my carry on. I washed my briefs in the sink each night, and they were dry by morning. This is a big deal for plus-size people. We can’t assume most stores will have anything that will fit us, especially in Europe and Asia.Almost all my undies are ExOfficio. They are that comfortable, and no bulky panty lines. (I am from pale, pale Western European stock.)I would love to see a bra on this fabric with some serious support for C+ cups.

Quality has deteriorated

I was excited to see that LL Bean was carrying Ex Officio bikini briefs, since I have been so happy with two of the same style I bought in 2017. However, the current version is a major downgrade. The material is flimsy, the elastic is significantly looser, and the waist-to-crotch length is a full inch-and-a-half longer even though they are supposedly the same size as my old ones. At first I thought it might be a covid supply chain problem, but the tag indicates one of the two I bought was manufactured in 2019. The waistband is somewhat different as well. If I'd purchased these from another source, I'd suspect counterfeits, but I think LL Bean's buyers are more savvy than that, so I'm suspecting Ex Officio changed suppliers. Not a good look for Ex Officio; I won't be ... MoreI was excited to see that LL Bean was carrying Ex Officio bikini briefs, since I have been so happy with two of the same style I bought in 2017. Too skimpy and NOT full cut!
30 June 2021

I bought six pair of “full cut” briefs same size as always two or three years ago. Only now, with pandemic reduced, did I open the packages and try them. They are no longer full cut and sit below the waist and above the groin. Worse is that panty liners or mini pads do not stick to the crotch. Ex Officio, why not read the reviews like I just have and find many others complaining about the skimpy fit and fabric that does not allow one to wear liners that stay in place. This is supposed to be a travel product. Panty liners are mandatory for most adults, especially during travel. Please bring back full cut panties and offer cotton fabric as inner crotch. Read your customer reviews and change, please! Suggest others do the same. Liners and mini pads adhere to the cotton just fine. But should a customer have to take such homegrown measures to an expensive piece of travel underwear?

People tend to forget about underwear: comfort, wash, feel. It's the MOST important layer!I have had these for years! And when I have extra dough, buy more.Although pricey, I swear by these underwear! When I travel or go anywhere, I always reach for these. You really don't need whole lot. But that's me... maybe 4 ....tops.(remember, you are washing the dirty ones....)Easily washed, rinsed and, most importantly, DRY fast. I hang these up damp and they are dry by morning. Also have several "give and go" bras. They go on fast, and fit me fine. The fabric washes well and hangs up fine too. Go with one dark and one light. For best color selection, buy on line, as many retailers do not carry many. Bras, especially. Run true to size.

Unwanted changes !
17 August 2022

Being an ExOfficio fan for years, I was looking forward to ordering 14 replacements due only to downsizing , not to any fault of the older pairs which I’ve enjoyed for several years.Sad to say, the new version was a major disappointment ! I keep wondering .. "Why fix something that isn’t broken??!The sizing and fit of the new style are very good.Beyond that …this new Give-N-Go full cut brief has a narrower waist band that folds over and becomes quite uncomfortable. Moreover the fabrication is not at all conducive to securing feminine hygiene products!! A total game changer. This was a major disappointment as ExOfficio panties were the BEST in terms of travel/quick dry and comfortable, long lasting, great fit, everyday wear for me.

good workout brief

Like the cut of this brief, as it covers up more of the rear end. The croth is slightly more narrow than I would have liked, but only because I wear liners a& they are wider than the crotch of the panty. Other than that this is very comfortable to work out in. I do weights and then sprint & it is very moisture wicking so you stay comfy no matter how hot you get. I found that a little surprising based on the lightweight material, but it really worked. The waistband is not terribly wide but stays in place like a champ & nothing rides up. Everything stays in place. Didn't think I was going to like it but after wearing it for a couple hours at the gym I changed my mind.
