Best Tent Ever

I took my Speedy Blackhole camping for the first time last weekend. It was an absolute breeze and delight to put up. It normally takes me ages to put a tent up and involves swearing. My only criticisms are that the pegs come out easily as they are not curved enough at the top - disappointing given the price of the tent. Also, I almost tripped over a guy rope in the dark as although they are bright orange, they don’t show up well in darkness. Otherwise I loved the tent. I had a double inflatable mattress which fitted in with room on the side my small dogs’ bed (although he actually ended up sleeping on my bed). The darkness is great and the LED lights are really handy. They aren’t quite bright enough to read by so I added a solar light and hung it from an elastic ... MoreI took my Speedy Blackhole camping for the first time last weekend. If I hadn’t watched the videos on how to pack the tent up before I went camping then figuring out how to fold it up would have been challenging. I loved how light it is to carry as I’m female and in my 50’s. It’s the best tent I’ve ever had and worth the money.

This is not a serious tent for Australian conditions OR if you don't like sleeping on the ground. The pegs should have been a warning - 3.5 mm - RU Kidding? You would have to put this up on your manicured lawn to hold this beast down. When we put up a folding camp bed inside (with plastic leg protectors) the floor ripped in 3 places. The floor material is manifestly inadequate except for lawn or firm packed sand. The fabric has zero insulation properties and it's next to impossible to pack-up. Do not use this is any kind of windy conditions. It will simply collapse on you in the night, even with the stays. For $30 more (plus the $230 we wasted in this tent) we had to replace the tent mid-trip with a fantastic Easy Up 6 man. A much better choice and tough as nails ... MoreThis is not a serious tent for Australian conditions OR if you don't like sleeping on the ground. I have a smaller one of these tents. (same design, different make). This is better in 3 ways. 1. Easily fits 2 mattresses side by side. 2. Is very dark inside so you dont wake with the first light and 3. It has excellent ventilation. There is a technique to collapsing it, but easily mastered if practiced.

Great nice-weather tent
21 January 2019

I've just taken this for a 2 night camp in Summer conditions. The big plus of course is that it is so quick to pitch and take down (once you know how). With just 8 pegs (4 for the tent, 4 for the guys), you really can pitch it and pack it away in minutes. It packs into a large disk shape, so you're not going to be carrying this on the back of your bike or walking through the bush with it.As with all 3-person tents, this fits two (tall) adults comfortably with room at the sides for your stuff. The dark fly was pretty good - it really did keep the interior darker than usual after sunrise. Oh, and the 'built in' LED lights were awesome.I can think of three downsides:- The tension of the poles is such that the front and rear of the tent wants to 'curl up'. ... MoreI've just taken this for a 2 night camp in Summer conditions. The big plus of course is that it is so quick to pitch and take down (once you know how). Oh, and the 'built in' LED lights were awesome.I can think of three downsides:- The tension of the poles is such that the front and rear of the tent wants to 'curl up'. Depending on the ground conditions, this means you need really good pegs to keep the tent pegged down properly.- The inner is pretty much just a mossie net, and the fly on the sides of the tent doesn't reach down to the ground. The result is plenty of ventilation. Great for warm weather, but I'm pretty sure you'd freeze on a cold day.- The roof is not sufficiently taut and curved to convince me that the rain would roll off it in wet weather. I can't confirm this but my guess is that the rain would pool on top of the fly. Conclusion - this is a good value tent for a quick getaway for two in nice weather. I loved being able to pitch it in a a few minutes but wouldn't be confident that it'd stay dry in heavy rain.

Great until it rains
19 April 2022

This tent has been great while dry. Used it for eight weeks in central and northern Australia but as soon as we had some real rain we found it leaked everytime. The main problem is that water pools in the centre of the roof and then eventually leaks through. Planet Earth need to find a way to make the guy ropes pull that central roof space tight so that water runs off better. The instructions even implied a central guy which doesn’t exist, this would have helped alot. The easy up and down works great though.

It worked
5 December 2021

I had read some bad reviews of this tent so I took my smaller North Face as a backup. Didn’t need it. I camped for fifteen nights starting from Mt Oxley, near Bourke & travelling down the Darling to Menindee Lakes. Pack up, pack down, Stay. We got stranded for a couple of days in torrential rain because all roads were closed. $10,000 dollars a wheel if you drive through the red. The tent was OUTSTANDING, dry, roomy. I put a tarp underneath it to protect the bottom. I got some rain through the zip on the first night but not to worry. It kept my dry in the rain & I could vent it when the sun came out. One morning I just dragged it into the shade, easily done as it keeps its shape. I also managed to anchor it down in high wind. Loved the orange tent love this one too
12 October 2022

I absolutely love this tent, I loved the orange version too which I also had & I just sold it. When I seen they bought out a black out version I just had to have it, especially in Qld. I go camping a lot, I work at a few outdoor parties so black out tents are a must. It’s handy to have as a solo tent, you can fit 2 adults with a double mattress no worries.

Speedy fast in the rain..
3 June 2022

Loved the super-fast setup as it started raining and indoor lights were so handy when my solar lantern ran out of light. As a rookie, I didn't set the ropes straight so there was some drag on one side but no rain got inside with a lightweight tarp over the top angled for the rain to run down one side and give cover to the front opening. The underground tarp from Snowys was very useful too but rookie error again I bought it too large I overestimated measurements. A 2P tent would have been better for me as this one is quite spacious as a 3P for solo camping. Recommend the blackout effect as I did get extra long sleep in the morning :-)

suitable for quick set up when on the go, 2 adults and a child or 1+3
17 January 2022

Just bought the tenet for a quick trip to SA. We have one big BlackWoolf family tent, one cheap $50 Aldi for quick setup [ it is very very good as well ] and two swags. Speedy 4 is just enough for 1A +2 kids. It is dark in the morning and allows for better sleep. Perfect for an easy setup [ it is our second pop us tent, Colman was first -Speedy is better IMO]. Negative: if you camp in a sandy dusty spot and it's windy- the tent will be full of dust, your sleeping bags etc. If windy, and rainy it will get squashed with the wind- we use our Car awning for added protection from rain and wind. Expect lots of condensation on the walls. The size makes it hard to pack in the car, however, its only 5 KG [ that's a big plus]. Overall, it is good if you and the go, but no way ... MoreJust bought the tenet for a quick trip to SA. The little straps that hold the awning broke on the first set up! have to be gentle with the tent, zips etc.
