I ignored the bad reviews and bought this anyways thinking people were not watching the guide video or reading instructions. I figured I'd practice and master it.. LOL just no.After following them closely, and repeating it over and over, I've realized the people who hate this we're being 100% genuine. Will it trim both sides? Yes*, In the process it will also tear out your veneer and chews the board like crazy. It doesn't matter how fast or slow you go, how hard you clamp or let it glide, what direction you use it, and so on. It's the lazy man's way of just getting it done and looking like complete garbage. Now, I'm not picky at all. A few snags okay, but this thing will EAT up your edgebanding in all the wrong places. If you are using any kind of wood ... MoreI ignored the bad reviews and bought this anyways thinking people were not watching the guide video or reading instructions. I had a large project requiring a lot of edge banding so I purchased the FastCap trimmer to try to speed things up. Unfortunately I didn’t get good results. It cut the edge banding...most of the time. The rest of the time the grain splintered off into the face of the work. I thought maybe I had a bad spot of banding but the issue happened with a different roll of a different species of well on a test piece. I went to YouTube to see what others were doing differently since the tool had good reviews. After changing my technique slightly I was still getting inconsistent results and switched back to trimming by hand with a razor knife. Not as quick but much better results. The folks at Rockler we’re happy to take it back since I wasn’t happy with it.

It took a couple of test runs, but once I got the hang of using the trimmer, it did an excellent job. Grip pressure is key to getting a smooth edge. Also, on long pieces, the trimmings come out of the trimmer's side, so just be aware of that, it may poke your hand. It is best to do long pieces in a single pass to remove the majority of the edging, then you can go back and forth to get a clean edge IMHO.

Seems like a great idea for trimming edge banding. Unfortunately as others have said, it just tears up the edges of the wood. There's almost no control to it and after much practice I have to conclude this thing is junk. Much better results with a very small hand plane and some sandpaper.
I used it on a couple of edge strips. There were no instructions, just a picture on the package. It seemed pretty simple, but for some reason it seemed a little "clunky" in use.I wasn't sure to start at the middle or an end; The Middle worked best for me. The cut was crude and needed sanding to finish it off. Maybe I had too high of expectations. It seems like it would work better that it did. Maybe I need more practice.
I researched this item carefully before I bought it. Here is how I use it. 1) I take it apart and do one side at a time. (Sometimes this is critical due to the direction of the grain.) I believe this way of using the Edge Banding Trimmer gives you more control. Of course, you must be careful to hold it snugly parallel to the board. 2) I move slowly and steadily. Watch closely what you are doing and stop if you are not getting a smooth cut. 3) You need to PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to the direction of the grain. The most time consuming part of the edge banding process is the sanding step to remove the glue and sand the edges smooth.
Had to replace t-moulding that was ancient and cracked. This tool worked like a champ. Easily and cleanly trimmed the excess plastic flush with the melamine. Ergomonics are great.
Trims both sides at once. Takes a little practice to get efficient. Keep your fingers out of the way of the trim discharge or you'll get a sliver. Probably works better on vinyl edge banding than wood, as it tends to rip the grain when going the wrong direction. So far have only used it on birch edge banding.
It works well but there are some issues. I found the blades gum up if you are making more than a couple of cuts at a time. If the edging isn't completely cool the blades rip it up almost beyond being able to touch up. Cuts longer than a couple of feet are problematic as well.
it was a little awkward to use and the glue from the bandingstarted to build up on the blades causing it not to slide well. also the grain of the banding sometimes means you cant cut with the grain direction on both sides at once and i had issues with tear out and rough edges on one side a few times. i feel the trimming comes out better with a chisel. you can just lay it flat on your work to get a good flush cut that take minimal sanding
