She was neglected and abused, so she is suspicious of anything new in her cage, and moves as far away from it as she can get, but I found the magic toy here! She loves it! She started actually touching it with her beak right away! I was ecstatic! I just couldn't believe her reaction. She actually starts giving me her urgent noises when it is empty! I love it because she does!

I bought this for my pet rat, to get him moving and working for his food more. It's great! Whether filled with food, produce, paper, toys or a combination, he really has to work to get it out and will keep pushing, pulling, rolling it around until he gets what he wants. When it's not very full and things roll freely inside, he practically lays on his back to be able to reach the treat. Quick and easy for me to fill, assemble and clean and endlessly interesting for him. A winner!

I like that it is acrylic and the parrot can see what is in the ball. What I do not like is that the ball is sepearted in the middle and unsscrews to add items. The threads on the edges of the ball do not fit well so it is a constant struggle to get the ball screwed back toghether. Most of the time I give it to her with the threads misaligned. Also, the holes are ALL big. A full peanut or almond or other bird treat is not big enough to stay in teh ball for the parrot to retrieve. Only very large treats will stay in the ball - which is a problem since I do not have really large treats for the Grey or my Large Macaw ... This is our number one foraging toy. I wrap food in paper parcels, and put in the toy, with whole walnuts. Sometimes my Grey can undo the toy, which is impressive. I have recently started to hang this ball from the cage roof, to make it more challenging
Was quite surprised at the size of this, bigger than I expected, but you can put allsorts in it. Incidentally, the holes on mine are not shaped as in the product picture, being the same width throughout. I've put nuts in shells, half walnuts, Nutri Berries, paper, etc, and watched as Jasper figures out how to best get at them, tuning himself inside out sometimes! I hung the ball up - even though he did play with it on the floor - using two quick links and a bit of chain. It has a hole in either end - don't know what the reviewer meant who said you couldn't hang it up! You could also suspend it between two points so it rolls from side to side and round and round. Either way, it works quite well and keeps him occupied for ages - and it withstands a lot of hammer too.
I ordered the 3-1/2" ball and when I got it I thought it seemed awfully large, but I didn't measure it. When I was asked to review it I figured it out. I was sent one that is about 5" by mistake. I intended to put peanuts in it, but they fall right through the holes.Aside from that, it seems to be a very sturdy toy. It does take considerable effort and precision to screw it together, but once it is done, there is no way it will come apart accidentally.Unfortunately, my yellow-nape is motivated mainly by food and just doesn't show any interest in reaching the paper or the wooden toys I put inside. I am hoping I can convince him that it is fun to roll it around and fight with it.

Been doing this for years, this toy is the only thing that keeps him from venturing off his outside the cage perch and he loves it.The tiny threads make it very hard to seal properly and if I don't get it right he is able to pop the two halves apart so you must be careful to screw it together without crossing threads, hard to do but you get used to it. That is the only thing that I find tedious about this toy and it is worth the effort to deal with it once you know.
I bought this with great expectation that it would be an inexpensive way to keep my cockatoo busy while I am at work. The concept is great. Unfortunately, the holes in it are so big that any treat I put in it fell out. The peanuts and treats I bought ended up on the bottom of the cage. Large pieces of apples or fruit I put in were ok but smelled bad by the end of the day. The holes need to be much smaller. It was a waste of money.
C'mon, Petco. Nowhere in the description does it say how big this is. The diameter is at least 3.5 inches, probably 4. I was expecting 2 inches or so, something a bird could pick up with a foot and play with. Returning it. But I'll give it 4 stars since it seems sturdy and might be good for a four-foot tall Macaw? Or a small pterodactyl?
