FEELWORLD FW279 (without 3g-sdi) Monitor Golden

With its very bright backlight, the field monitor overcomes almost any light-specific obstacle. At the same time, it forms a razor-sharp image without you having to put up with a visible viewing restriction, which can occur with sun visors, for example. The maximum transmittable image quality is 4K30p. Audio monitoring is also possible, thanks to the built-in speakers and 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack. The compact size and light weight allow it to be taken to virtually any location. In addition, the installation of a VESA-75 compatible mount is possible, for which the field monitor has mounting holes on the back. Professional functions make your work much easier. The menu control is intuitive and simple. On top of the monitor you have the complete button layout with which you can make settings. Two different function keys, which can be programmed to different functions, make working even easier. If necessary, you can use a key combination to set the image reversal function, so that the screen flips quickly if the image is reversed. The previously set parameters are retained the next time you switch on the unit. Simple and fast is the moto of the field monitor. The FW279 has a 4K HDMI input and output that can not only display live signals, but also send them to other monitors simultaneously. This allows you to view live images on multiple displays simultaneously. The picture quality is not affected. You have the option of operating the monitor with a mains cable (available as an option) or with a rechargeable battery. For use with a rechargeable battery, you also need an optional additional Sony-compatible F970 rechargeable battery. When you switch off the monitor, you must press the mains switch and not pull out the mains cable directly, otherwise settings may be lost or the unit may even be damaged.

Up and running in minutes! So many built-in functions making this far more than a simple monitor. Functions for exposure warning, focus peeking, histogram and much more are so quickly accessible with buttons right on this monitor than multiple windows and clicking on camera.

BRIGHT BUT NOT RELIABLE

Nice and bright for outdoor real estate photography however after 6 months of use, it began to overheat and shut down. This required me to wait a few minutes before powering it back up again. It would overheat again and shut down so this dramatically slowed my work. I had to send it from Florida to California at my own cost for analysis. Very inconvenient especially since I don't have a spare back up monitor. Another annoyance is that the buttons are on top so you can't really see them when you need to change something.

Basically, I bought it for outdoor shooting with my BMPCC 4K. I wanted something very very bright, and that didn't disapoint on that feature. I have the HDMI-only version which is what I needed. It has many great tools. I like the fact that it arrived with a HDMI cable and a cold shoe mount. There are three downsides. You can only screw it from the bottom, even though you can flip the image. Following that, the input/output are on the right which is a bummer since most users looking in that range of monitors will have DSLRs, mirrorless or Pocket cameras that have their ports on the left side. Finally, the buttons to navigate are not ultra intuitive, but you can manage. In the end, I will admit that the monitor is a more than decent tool for the price. Best well kept secret.....

Im hesitant to mention how great this field monitor is for fear of a price hike.We have used many other huge name brands that cost 3+ times more than these and none come close to the nits this tool outputs. In my older age my eyesight is dimming but this monitor in full sun with no shade screen can be seen clear as day. it is a must but please don't buy them all. this is the second one we've bought and we don't even use our other much more expensive brands.

Broke before first use!
28 November 2022

We bought two of these, and before we could use them even one time one of them broke off of the 1/4 screw mount! We caught it before it hit the floor. We inspected the other one and see that it has hairline cracks in the plastic also. These monitors have no metal piece underneath reenforcing the 1/4 mounting hole. They are great monitors as far as brightness, but alas, you get what you pay for. They are three weeks out of warranty (we had them just sitting in our equipment locker this whole time), we contacted Feelworld and will see what happens. Hopefully...

Great Monitor at this price point...

Great Monitor at this price point... very bright and clear, EZ to use. We use it for Drone Visual Observers in Search and Rescue operations here in Sedona, AZ. Works great as an extra set of eyes to help the pilots to interrupt thermal images on night searches. Also, bright enough to use in the desert sun on daylight missions.

Makes shooting EXTs much easier
27 July 2023

This monitor is plenty bright to shoot outside in direct sunlight and be able to see what you're doing, even with the brightness set at 50/100. Be aware that the brightness does come at the price of extra battery drain, so keep your batteries topped up and turn the monitor off when changing setups. We first shot on an an 86F day with no wind and high humidity and had no trouble with overheating. As stated in other reviews, the menus are somewhat awkward and could use improvement. No provision is made for mounting a sunshade (since it's not really needed) but we modified one of our old one to mount with Velcro and it worked fine.

Only tested but so far so good.

Well there is more money to spend, first of all: batteries (I would recommend having two), charger, and myself I would go for a slightly more robust ball head (I am trying the Ulanzi U-30S). Anyway the main thing is I finally started shooting video outdoors in the afternoon on a Fuji and realized I cannot live without something like this. I was hoping to save my pennies for an Atomos recorder so I would have the 4-2-2 option but I could no longer put it off. I tested this one on a bright day in the park when the sunlight made the LCD back screen on my camera show as pretty much black. This is a game changer for a solo operator if it holds up. My tentative battery test has the battery (a Sony NP-F970) gone at about the three hour mark. I might mention I keep the ... MoreWell there is more money to spend, first of all: batteries (I would recommend having two), charger, and myself I would go for a slightly more robust ball head (I am trying the Ulanzi U-30S). The Swiss army knife of small monitors!
22 February 2023

I purchased this monitor when it was on mega-deal sale and love it! Small, lightweight and bright which made it a triple threat. Throw in all the available settings and you just can't lose. There is one drawback, however. It doesn't come with a power supply which bugged me when I initially got it.

Used once but the story so far...

I bought this for the Sigma FP. And the first thing you have to know is, the cable that comes with it does not fit the FP. You have to buy a cable separately that is HDMI normal at one end, and the micro HDMI at the other, which looks a lot like the old standard USB mini (not micro USB)Once I had the right cable I took it out at night in the snow and it was exceptional compared to the screen on the camera itself. As much as I am loving the Sigma, I find in video and at night it often does not represent the colours correctly on its own screen, although the footage looks great on the computer. But with this extra bright screen, you get the focus lines and accurate colours (more accurate at the very least) and you can stand away from the camera and still use ... MoreI bought this for the Sigma FP.
