After watching the promo videos and reading the products features i thought this would be perfect ... how wrong i was !! Could never get the auto feed to work well at all and spent more time trying to line up, flattening down and take out paper than actuality shedding.Oh and the stuff ... most unhelpful and not interested in helping at all!

We had the Fellowes 300CL previously and unfortunately it wasn't a good shredder so we were a little worried about replacing it with a new Fellowes, however it was recommended.We have been very happy with this shredder so far - a lot better than the old one. The reason I have not given it 5 stars is because you really have to have the paper level and flat in order for it to shred successfully.

This shredder has a large-capacity bin so it's useful not to have to empty it too often. The downside is the bin is made of rigid cardboard, rather than plastic, the corners of which are already getting scuffed and we've used masking tape to protect them.When the shredder doesn't jam it is great, however the waste paper needs to be very neat and of the same size in order for it to shred without jamming. E.g. it doesn't like A5 and A4 paper being mixed up in one pile.Very pleased with the size of the shredded pieces i.e. small.

I like the fact that the machine is self standing. A bit slow and also thought that the machine was capable of shredding with staples but apparently not. On the other hand it is robust and handles what is thrown at it. I like the box and bag from the cleanliness point of view.

Big removable bin is great and can hold a fair amount of cuttings. The locking mechanism is great if two companies want to share the shredder. One can't, however, leave 350 sheets in the auto feeder unattended expecting them to be done when they next check it. This machine is actually surprisingly quiet for its size and doesn't fill the office with noise. Overall, very pleased with it.

Bought this to replace a Rexel machine but doesn’t compare. It has a temperamental feeding mechanism which means you can’t reliably leave it to shred by itself despite following instructions . Also noisy.Great service from Shredding Machines.

Perfect for what we needed in school following the new GDPR regulations.We always have lots of old paperwork to shred at the end of the summer term which used to take me weeks to shred and get rid of but with this it took me just under 2 days.The autofeed is great, just so long as nothing is stapled as this can cause it to jam and the paper is stacked carefully.All in all we are very very happy and would recommend this to any busy office/school environment.

First Time

This is the first time our company got a 'big' shredder and a couple of months after receiving this we had to report an issue with constant jamming and they sent a new one. This second one again after a matter of months is causing us issues and we are awaiting an engineer. Not totally confident in the Fellowes right now but hopefully the engineer can fix it. They have been very quick with responding and resolving which is great :)

First Time Office Shredder Purchases

We've bought 2 of these for the office. Had them for several weeks now and they are used daily by 10-15 users usually. Fairly quiet, although have taken care to site them away from colleagues desks as much as possible. Shred pretty quickly and small clips and staples present no problem (not through the slot though). We have to ensure that paper is pretty neatly stacked in the A4 hopper and anything even slightly bigger than A4 is not recommended. The two main issues we have (and these may apply to most competitors) are that whilst the 550C has a manual slot (500C didn't) this can't be used if anything is waiting to be shredded in the autofeed hopper, plus whilst the shredder bin capacity suggests it can handle at least 2 full hopper's worth (1100 sheets), in ... MoreWe've bought 2 of these for the office. This is due to the shredded paper not being compressed and also accumulating at the shredder's teeth end. Cue having to open the door to manually compressing the shredded paper. All-in-all, so far a worthwhile purchase though!

Great Shredder

Purchased this shredder for the office as a replacement for the one that we already had as it was getting quite old and the quality of the shredder wasn't quite as what it used to be. We decided on the Fellowes AutoMax 550C as it seemed to fit the needs of what we were looking for. It arrived promptly and was packaged well, but there was a scratch on the face of the shredder which wasn't ideal since it was just out of the box. Other than that, this is a great shredder - it is quiet, quick and easy to use.
