The first one blew up 8 months after purchase. I did get a replacement and that one blew up 14 months later. Motor running but the wheels didn't turn. The plastic gear lost the teeth. The extra cover for the first shredder didn't get past on to the second one. Very bad service Officeworks,

I’ve read the other reviews and totally disagree I believe it’s probably their operator error. I’ve shredded 1000’s + of pages and staples too (once a whole black rubbish bag full - over 2 days) yes it will smoke at times it’s designed to stop working when it heats up to protect the motor, be patient (do something else in the meantime) it will start again by itself in about 15 minutes or so, then back to loading paper before it shuts offs to cool again. Make sure to use the oil on the blades regularly too. If there is a paper jam use the reverse feature. I was totally impressed with its capabilities. Everyone should have one at home, I’m a very happy customer. Thanks

We used this for the first time today and after 5 to 10 minutes, shredding A4 sheets in no more than groups of 7, the mechanism jammed and the paper could not be removed or released. I opened it up to remove the paper with long nosed pliers and discovered that the plastic cog wheels that drive the shredder had themselves been shredded, so the device is unusable.

Shreds first 20 pages or so well, then starts jamming up underneath. It jams quicker if you don't move the already shredded pieces in the basket away from the outlet...and do that very frequently. To fix when jammed...Turn off, lift shredder body off basket onto it's side, brush out jammed up shreds. Start over.Do not like the loose and clunky slide control to turn the unit from reverse<->off<->on.Twice now I've made the mistake of sliding the control button too far from on -> off and it went into reverse briefly. The already jammed and shredded paper got pulled up into the feed-in mouth section and then it stops completely. The is only one way to fix it, and that is to take the head unit apart (5 screws). The already jammed and shredded paper got pulled up into the feed-in mouth section and then it stops completely. The is only one way to fix it, and that is to take the head unit apart (5 screws). Because the shreds get pushed up under the small lever that gets moved a bit when paper goes in to trigger the start, it will not go into forwards at all. Nothing then works until the shreds have been removed.First time I did that I also noticed the off-white plastic frame around the shredder teeth components were all cracked (looked like that component had been dropped on one end during assembly because outside case showed no damage) but it still worked so I reassembled it and persevered. Now the paper is getting caught between the teeth and the plastic guides, so it's useless to me.Avoid this product if you are not game to pull it apart frequently to un-jam it nor have the time to bother.Takes about 1 hour each time to dismantle and clean it out properly. Took 5 hours to shred about 200 sheets of paper, with doing the above mistake twice, and then having to wait so many times when it needed to cool down from running 5 minutes.
Bought this shredder one week ago. Do not believe the 'features' on the box stating 'powerful performance' and 'shreds without jamming' as it is neither powerful nor non-jamming. in fact it is the opposite - it stops repeatedly, cannot manage more than 3 pages at a time and continually jams - and is extremely difficult to clear the jams. The worst shredder I've ever used. If there was a no-star option I would rate this shredder no stars.
Lasted about 6 mths then completely stopped. I was very careful not to shred too much at one time and only shredded 3-4 papers whereas it said 7. Unfortunately I had lost my receipt so could not replace (not happy). Tried to fix but inside looked like a burnt/worn out motor - and was made of plastic!!! Not impressed
Shredder was okay initially when I bought it in April. Just used it again after several months, motor overheats and starts burning after shredding a couple of pages. In my opinion the biggest issue is the puny motor, and the even punier heat sink on the motor.Seems Fellowes really skimped on the motor, and us the end consumer all pay for it.Certainly could not recommend to friends at the price it retails for.
Stopped working after only a few uses. The reverse function still works but shredding function doesn't start anymore. I didn't overuse it as I followed the user manual that came with it. Unfortunately I didn't start using it until after a year after buying it and the warranty is only for 12 months so I can't get my money back. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
It only works in reverse which doesn't shred. No helpdesk on the AU website that covers troubleshooting. The shredder has had such little use, we've only shredded max of 3 pages at a time even though it's rated at 7. We've removed staples and only shredded paper, no plastic or card. Don't waste your money on this, it's rubbish.
I bought this for my dad, who just wanted to shred bills etc on an infrequent basis. So personal use, really. And that's exactly what this more budget unit is for. It has a recommended '5 minutes at a time' run time, which is fine, because it works great whilst doing its thing.Really, it shreds basic A4 like an 80s metal guitarist. And that's all one could want.
