This is s preliminary review, and I will update it after I have used this shredder for a few months. (But so far so good)I have a six-year-old Fellowes SB89Ci which was working perfectly in my very busy home office UNTIL someone in my family put an envelope through it containing coins and then used the forward/back buttons to 'clear the jam', ultimately breaking several of the plastic "sweepers" (those white plastic things which among other things separate the blades in the cutter head and also clear paper shards as they try to wrap themselves around the cutter head). As a result, the cutter head now jams frequently and needs serious repair (it still shreds fine - except for a 4-inch gap in the middle). As a result, the cutter head now jams frequently and needs serious repair (it still shreds fine - except for a 4-inch gap in the middle). I contacted Fellowes and the model is no longer made AND there are no repair parts available. I did find two different shops who said they could probably repair it, but using one of them would cost me shipping in both directions PLUS the cost of the repair. And the sum of those exceeds the cost of a new 99Ci.I was EXTREMELY happy with my old shredder and after looking at about a dozen others I "settled on" the 99Ci. Of course before actually ordering it I read a huge number of reviews of this shredder,(on several web sites), and I watched video reviews of it on YouTube. Now as I generally prefer to "see it before I buy it" I visited several local office supply stores. But as it turned out none of them had one in stock to examine, and consequently I ordered this one without my usual pre-purchase inspection. (OK, so I'm extremely careful about anything like this which I buy with the intention of using for several years...)Actually I ordered it without hesitation. But then after I had ordered it I continued reading even more reviews (on many sites) and there was one thing in particular which worried me. Multiple reviewers commented on the recent changes to the 99Ci, and most of the serious complaints were about the collection basket: at least two of them claimed that it was made out of cardboard. (Those two were incorrect.)So as soon as it arrived, I opened the box (which showed no damage) and on inspection I decided that the box must have received some rough handling from the USPS who delivered it. The head had somehow detached from the body of the shredder. However (and fortunately) after a quick inspection there was no obvious damage, and the two pieces snapped back together just fine. Then I examined the collection bin and had to laugh. It is made of the same corrugated plastic as the mail tubs used at my office (and the USPS, too IIRC) - albeit without their steel rod frame) - and it is simply of a somewhat lighter gauge. But with normal use it should work well in its intended purpose. Also it is a MAJOR improvement over the one in my old 89Ci which had a number of sharp protrusions which almost always caught and tore the collection bags when I tried to remove them. This one does NOT have anything protruding into the collection bin and bags should not catch (or tear) on it.I will be going over my new 99Ci VERY carefully in the next few days to make sure that there was no other problem from its being jarred in shipping (and if there is any, I will be doing an exchange with Amazon to get another). But so far it looks good, and I have already shredded a pile of office papers and accounting records over a foot high, and at this point the 99Ci is so much better than my old shredder that I am EXTREMELY happy with it.So far the shredder behaves exactly as it's supposed to and I'm a very happy camper. My only minor complaint is that paper is just a littler harder to get into the paper entry slot is a little thinner than the one on my old 89Ci (it is the same width though). But then, had the slot on my old shredder been like the one on the 99Ci, nobody would have been able to put an envelope containing several coins into the shredder, so maybe this is a worthwhile improvement.Based on my previous experience with the 89Ci (and a couple of other Fellowes shredders at my office) and on my initial experience with this one, I would not hesitate to recommend it to family, friends, and co-workers.(REMINDER: MY CAVEAT STILL STANDS THAT I WILL UPDATE THIS REVIEW IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS WHEN I HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO USE IT EXTENSIVELY. [IF THAT IS POSSIBLE] But I doubt that I will want to change its 5-star rating, and so until and unless that happens, I am very happy with this shredder.

I have an earlier version of this shredder; Fellows DM15. Having a home office it's intermittently gotten a lot of use, since we accumulate a stack of paper and then shred all at once.Fellows does a great job engineering their shredders to FAIL in multiple ways so you have to prematurely buy a replacement. The motors and steel shredding heads are fine, it's the other components that they've designed to fail. Here are some examples of their engineering to fail:1. The safety switch that keeps the shredder from turning ON when the waste container is removed is an approximate 1/8" wide x 1.5" long tab of plastic that wears down each time the waste container is removed and reinserted. Once it wears down after about 200 removals of the container, there is no way to activate the safety switch, because it's hidden deep inside a narrow slot, and the tab is no longer high enough to activate the safety switch, so the shredder won't run.2. The sides of the machine and the waste basket are made of very brittle plastic, so they started cracking on my machine after 50 – 100 basketfuls of shredding; despite taking great care of my tools, so I've had for decades. I was able to temporarily fix this problem with duck/duct tape, but now the shredder feels even more flimsy, top heavy and unstable3. After 50 to 100 containerfuls of shredding, shredding debris clogs the motor housing so much it overheats twice as fast and eventually it's so clogged the motor won't run even when it's cold. A total disassembly of the shredder is the only way to clear the debris, or buy a new one.

I needed to purchase a new shredder for home office use, but after looking around all the usual shops such as Currys etc, found nothing that was substantial enough or robust enough for our home office requirements. I've used the shredder for about two weeks and shredded approximately 15 bags of material. Shredder performs admirably, overall. I did have a couple of jams which I contribute to possibly placing too much material in the shredder. Probably suggest less than 18 pages, although it will handle this amount. The container bin is poorly made. It works but could be so much better made. Looks like the corrugated material from post office boxes, therefore the 3 stars in this area. Shreds cd's, small paper clips and staples as advertised. I reviewed several shredders at all price points before choosing the 99ci. I have many, many pounds of documents to dispose of going back more than 10 years. I have full confidence that the 99ci will do what I need and more. Were it not for the quality of the bin and some shredded material falling behind the bin when shredding or trying to pack it down when full, I would have given this machine 5 stars. Great value! I am not disappointed, and I definitely recommend it.
I have several Fellowes Shredders and they always live up to my expectations. I have had others in the past that I was dissatisfied with but the FELLOWES beats them all hands down. It is fairly quiet and jam proof so far. Shreds everything I have put through it so far. I really like the Shredder very much. My son purchased my first one for me and told me it was the best. He has several also. I found it to be excellent.
I've had several Fellowes shredders over the years but this one is just not functional. Isues are, first, it runs continuously. will not stop for any reason other than powering off, overheating or safety switch activation. Second, will shut down after only 2 to 3 minutes of running with the overheating light illuminated and will not turn back on for at least 20 minutes. Third, the safety switch is so tight that a single sheet of paper will not feed through. I need to use at least 5 sheets to make it stiff enough to feed in. Fourth, when I do use 5 sheets of paper the overfeed safety activates shutting the shredder off. The overfeed lights start off 1 level away from overfeed and shutdown. Very useful! I can get more accomplished with a good pair of scissors.
I am searching for a replacement for this model. Purchased this 4 years ago and the first 6 months lived up to its claims. Then things started going wrong. First and most important is the machine is TOP HEAVY and will easily tip over. The wheels are cheap and loud but not the reason the machine tips over. I used a flatbed to move it around the offices. Second, the jam feature stopped working almost as soon as the machine got broken-in. Employees are not known for following directions so the over-stuffed paper jam was a major reason to purchase but that feature was first to go bad. Third. The machine overheated all the time. The 20 minute to 40 minute is more like 10 minutes to 90 minutes. Finally, the machine does not stop when basket is full resulting in over fill, jams from underneath cutters, and the worst, the basket door broke away from the machine eventually after several overfilled baskets. The motor is strong and the cutters are strong but the axles did bow due to jams. The machine is headed to the scrapyard.
We purchased this same shredder model about six years ago and it just recently died. We had no trouble with it prior to then so I decided to order the same model. There are a couple of differences between them; first, the new one is quieter. On the negative side, though, the sides of the pull out tray are now made of a much cheaper quality flexible plastic (the original one was hard plastic). I am hoping this won't create any issues - so far so good. It's great that the tray pulls out from the narrow side of the shredder instead of the wider side, like most shredders I've seen, which enables it to fit very nicely in the narrow space between our copier and the wall.
This is the perfect size and model for a home office where I shred both personal and business junk mail and documents. I had a good 10 years with the last shredder of the same model. I told myself to always buy Fellowes as they were always there to help whenever I had a problem. Three years ago when I thought it was time to get a new one, a wonderful gentleman walked me through some easy steps and I was surprised to see the shredder was working again and lasted another 3 years! I just unpacked my replacement today and needed to ask a couple of questions about attaching the wheels and registering the new model. There is never a long wait on the phone and the people who answer are easy to understand and very helpful. This new shredder is much more quiet than the older model of the same number. The only thing different is the bin is made of a lighter weight material. This is not a negative thing as it is lighter to pick up and empty. I am keeping my old bin from the 10 year old model as a spare as it fits this newer one. The new shredder does have the small holes on the side to attach the small holder on the side, but the holder is not included with this newer one. I use this to keep extra plastic bags and my oil bottle handy. I just attached the one from my older model and all is well! As I use this every day it is important to me to have a product that is good quality and has great backup help when I need it (which is only about every 7 -10 years of use) No complaints! Thank you Fellowes!
It shreds very well for long periods of time. Unfortunately the sensor went out and it will not shred. After experimenting, I was able to manually shred using the push button and feeding in paper. Eventually it would shred continuously until it ran out of paper. It stopped again and had to start process all over. Not what I imagined ever doing, but at least I can keep it going manually because they're too expensive to replace.
