I bought this bass because I remembered how much I loved my first bass, a Squire J-Bass. Later, I purchased a mint J-Bass Ultra for a great price and considered selling the Vintera. But I couldn't. The only reason you can pick one of these up for less than $1,500 is because they are MIM. But they are incredible basses. I love the sound of the pickups more than the "vintage" noiseless pickups on my Ultra. Those lows just growel and the miss pop. The neck feels every bit as awesome as other vintage basses I have played. I honestly couldn't get rid of it and now play it more than any other in my arsenal. This bass changed how I viewed MIM basses. Ensenada got it right.

Truly amazing bass. I bought mine used in natural amber and got it for a great price as well and it came without a scratch. It's definitely got its own personality. I've owned nine basses including two other jazz basses, and this is the fattest in the mid section any bass has ever sounded. My old MIM Deluxe Active Jazz Bass is SO different than the Vintera. Pure growl as the American Vintage Revoiced Pickups definitely do their job. Compliments on tone one guy said "Sounds like a stingray man." Probably the best way to put it. Very active sounding but passive. I have dead strings on there and still get the treble out my tone is amazing. Strains the shoulder after 4 hours playing. Another major thing- this has the 7 and a quarter radius vintage C neck, arguably the slimmest/thickest jazz neck Fender ever made. Definitely have had to adjust the trussrod more often than fatter necks. The maple is beautiful and the bass is overall on par with anything MIA. People forget Mexico is in North America. My particular example of this bass is a keeper and just translates better in the midrange due to the Pau Ferrero and the heavy alder/ash. I went with the natural to try and snag the best cuts of wood they would be putting out. The sustain is truly absurd: 30 second notes if I wanna let em ring.

Really quick and friendly service from multiple PMT stores. I’m at university so was in and out of PMT stores speaking to people when at uni and at home and the staff are amazing. They’re extremely helpful as I’ve never played bass before. They spoke to me about what bass amps I should look at getting and the bass guitar itself.I bought a Fender Vintera 1960s Jazz Bass in Daphne blue and the my jaw dropped when I saw it. It’s doesn’t just look like an amazing bass but it also sounds like one. I know I’ve made the best decision.

This bass is amazing. I was shocked at how thin and fast the neck is. This is a great bass and I do recommend it.I only gave it it four stars because you have to remove the neck in order to adjust the truss Rod. It's supposed to be the best from that era with modern appointments. For whatever reason, bringing the truss Rod access up to modern standards was over looked. The pickups sound great. The neck is thin and fast.
Overall:I am a 54 year old bass player. Ive been playing bass for a little over 40 years and in that time ive owned 11 different basses including ibanez blazer, Fender Jazz (american), Sting Ray Fretless --- and none of them fit me as well as this Fender Vintera Jazz. I also have to give a huge thanks for zZounds for making it possible for me to have an instrument of this quality. The payment plans they offer are unbelievable and the customer service is hands down the best i have ever experienced -- it definitely helps to have actual playing musicians on staff. Great Bass. MIM, 7.25 radius plays like my old P bass! and I love that. but the neck is much thinner, which makes this bass a blast to play. Like the other review says, great for all genres. the Reverse open-gear tuning machines took about 3 seconds to get used to. but I actually really dig it. the Pao Ferro is beautiful. I replaced the stock Bridge for a Brass bridge. it was a direct replacement with no new holes needed. the upgraded bridge brought out the true colors of the bass with much more sustain.
I got this a scratch and dent at 36% off, AND with a tweed case included. What a bargain! Beautiful finish (lacquer), 4 ply pick guard, and a nice case too!As in the case of any 'damaged' return you take a chance, but I saw in the photos apparently someone bought this 60's style Jazz and thought they could adjust the the truss rod without removing even so much as the pick guard! (Hence the minor damage). Well... a little bit of cleanup, a lot a bit of setup and a small file to fix the gouge mark and viola! Like new!She also came equipped with Fender Flats; so Jazz growl AND some deep talkin' thump when needed. As far as how she plays -- that's subjective - and there's plenty of reviews to be found on MIM Jazz playability.Observations? The Lacquer finish may ... MoreI got this a scratch and dent at 36% off, AND with a tweed case included. (Can get sticky when sweat gets involved.)The old-school p'ups may not be as loud as some of the newer designs, but they do have that 'sound'.The smaller frets are also finished as they would be in the 60's - so also an acquired taste. But since it was open box, and MF documented EXACTLY how she looked, I knew what i was buying. And I bought a bargain.
Setting the Guitar Center Standard: MIM Fender 70s Jazz in Natural Amber (Pictures DONT do it justice)This instrument looks like a $1000 Fender bass just upon approaching it. It sounds the most vintage yet is the warmest, fattest big old girl.Purchased this bass, used, sight unseen, on blind faith it would work out, through Musicians Friend. Routed me up the chain and sent me directly to the actual store the bass that held the bass. That led me buying from Guitar Center 522. Best experience I've ever had buying a musical instrument. Chad Vest, has been General Manager forever over there and let's just say these guys operate the way EVERY Guitar Center should operate and then some. The bass shipped fast and when it came I was stunned it was barely used!!*it got to me used but brand new. As in the last owner didnt have a tech set it up and never played it*- This bass is alder body/maple+pau ferrero neck and fretboard. I've owned 9-10 basses at this price range or higher. This bass is superior in tone to all but one.The pickups are LITERALLY "custom shop equivalent" because they're American Vintage Original 70s pickups (made in the GOOD old USA) that then undergo a special winding process to "revoice" them. Together with the alder I got a big heavy bass I named Bear Cub Bill.- Heavy bass, passive pickups that sound extremely active + the right strings on this North American Reissue of the early 70s Fender Classic Jazz Bass will give you the end-all-be-all of bass- the legendary and then some- the most superior jazz bass tone. I dropped my Sadowsky and now use this bass 90% of the time in the studio. More on that in a minute and how lucky I was Chaz was the store GM and Omar Sanchez was my Customer Service Manager assisting me. These guys & Bill Ehalt went above and beyond.- The 7.25 C Neck is stunning, but not for everyone. Mine came used without a pro setup, something only Chaz and Omar made it possible...
I have been a gigging musician for 32 years, both on electric and upright bass. I have to say that I absolutely love this instrument. The electric bass that I have hung on to the longest is a 1976 Fender Precision that plays beautifully and sounds awesome but weighs a ton. This Mexican-made Jazz Bass is significantly lighter and, paired with a 4 1/2" wide Levy's padded guitar strap, is an axe I can hang over my 52-year old shoulder for a three-hour gig with no problems.Straight out of the box, the action was kind of high, but after a visit to my local guitar tech's bench and a truss rod and bridge adjustment, this thing plays like a dream.Okay, I know some people scoff at the 'relic' finishes, likening them to acid-washed jeans with holes in the knees that sell ... MoreI have been a gigging musician for 32 years, both on electric and upright bass. I really like the relic finish, and feel much less uptight about dinging or scratching this as I would an immaculate new painted finish. I mean, what's another ding or scratch but more relic character? Besides, most people who are listening to you play in a bar would never know the difference, anyway. If they say 'cool old bass,' I'll say 'thanks.' This is show biz, after all, right?A USA-made relic bass is often more expensive than an actual vintage instrument with authentic character, and is out of the price range for what I can justify paying for a working man's axe. I would be way uptight about bringing an instrument of those price points into the local clubs where something might happen to it. While I would hate to lose this one, I feel good taking it to gigs.Mine was an 'open box' bass that had been returned, so I got a smoking deal on it, and it will pay for itself in less than a month of gig money.Nice job, Fender of México.MÃl gracias!
I have been playing bass for well over 10 years. and have owned more basses then Its worth to count. my current two basses I use for every gig and recording session, they are this Jazz bass and the MIJ Precision bass, both are meant for different things. this bass has a thin neck, very pronounced fretboard radius of 7.25" and a standard bass scale length. this jazz bass is perfect for slap bass, funk, mo-town, rock etc... honestly my drummer and Guitarist don't notice a difference between the way this and my Precision bass sound. and if the audience cant tell a difference that is fine too. this bass plays like butter and is hard to pick between this and my Precision bass when it comes to studio and stage time.
