Final Fantasy is a long running series that is very well known for setting the bar for many role-playing games that involve sorcery, warriors, and magical crystals that usually govern the way the world was created in the universe. Final Fantasy Type-0 changes the style up completely. Type-0 is a fun and excited entry into the Final Fantasy universe, but keep in mind that there is some blood, and mature references, so this game is not for kids. A few other points one should know before heading out and picking up a copy are that the difficulty of the side missions is a staggering difference from the main story. If you're a side-quest fanatic like me, you're gonna want to do all of them, but don't feel bad if you can't. There is a "time limit" on your down time between missions, so use your time wisely, not every non-player character has something worthwhile to say, and those who do may not always be around on certain times. Personally I was a huge Final Fantasy fan when I was younger, and lately haven't been too into the series, but Type-0 piqued my interest and it was worth the time spent. There's plenty to do and much fun to be had, so with these points in mind, I urge you to go out and pick up a copy!

A Mature Final Fantasy

I quickly learned that "Type 0" means that it is a different type of FF game. Meaning the playstyle of this game is much different from any previous FF titles. Each of the playable characters have distinct playable styles and they're all viable to use.I should warn you that the camera system in this game is quite bad. Every time you turn the camera with the right analog stick (speed can't be varied), motion blur is introduced and it can make you experience motion sickness.When you're not fighting in missions, you're given time to roam at an academy to do side quests, listen to lectures (for exp), and shop around. Each event causes a timer to count down, which then leads to your next mission. It's a novel idea and adds importance to time instead of having characters run around doing fetch quests all day as if a war isn't going on.Special mention goes to the incredible soundtrack. It's worthy of a mainline Final Fantasy title.Overall, I can recommend this game if you find the combat system and gameplay fun (along with overlooking the horrid camera). Otherwise, the story and graphics do hold the game down a bit from greatness.

Love the plot

When we first got this game I was more excited about the Demo for FFXV since we have seen trailers and how wonderful it looks. But, instead I ended up trying out the actual game first to see what it was like.The plot is great so far and the cut scenes are rather lovely. I was surprised at how much violence was in it, but have seen worse so it intensifies the emotions as well as the plot.Another, the thing I love about the game is that there are lots of characters to choose from to fit everybody's taste in what they enjoy in a character. The screen blurs when you use the horizontal and vertical camera look at the same time or horizontal alone. It hurts our eyes for some reason. However, the in depth plot keeps you on trail and wanting more. So still would recommend to those especially with the Gamers Club Unlocked Membership.Other than that, we do like this game a lot and have been putting 2+ hours on it ever since we got it a few days ago. we pre-ordered it so it came with the FFXV demo which we do LOVE a lot. Can't wait for it to come out.

Each hold the ever original naming style of playing cards, but that's not a major point of dissapproval. Much of the combat style is Dynasty Warriors with more difficult to use combos, often you will find a favorite character to use in a fight, but either you will have a hard time actually using that character thanks to small quirks (such as slow attack speed, sweeping attack motions that don't hit enemies as often as it should, issues with hitting targets as a ranged character, etc.) or you'll be forced to level up other, less interesting characters to round out your group in case a character dies. To make matters worse, the camera is ungodly janky and sensitive to adjustment which makes moving about in and out of combat is terribly nauseating.Aside from the chocobo breeding, a throwback to the fun side quest of Final Fantasy 7, and the overland Suikoden 3-style war events, this game is difficult to enjoy for a mature fan of the classic Final Fantasy games.In closing, if it were not called Final Fantasy, it would be a great game. It can be fun after you forget the Final Fantasy name, even with the terrible PS2 era graphics and the awkward soundtrack, but sadly the combat mechanics leave much to be desired.

Short but Good

Before purchasing it, I did read a lot of reviews, most of the negative points were that the story lacks as the game progresses, which it does indeed. Some characters a very cliche and somewhat one dimensional. But overall it was a great game.The only downside I had was seeing how before this game even came out, there were a lot of trailers boasting its HD remake and praise of being 1080. But actually playing it, some of the scenery and graphics were as if they just upscaled it. But it does look indeed better than the PSP version. Took 5 consecutive day with about 5-7 hours of free time to finish.Even though the story is extremely short for a FF game, it's still fun and has replay value.

Surprisingly good for a spinoff title

I really liked FF Type 0 quite a bit, I must say. It's a really solid JRPG; it's a lot deeper than you'd expect for its PSP origins. The remastered graphics are really well done, the music was a little understated, but had a few exceptional tracks there. I enjoyed the character selection too. You can choose from 14 different characters - they all have really well thought out personalities and variation in skills. No two of your party members will feel alike. The story is all about war and invasions over establishing control with their Eidolon culture. It's more of an excuse for the Strategy/Wargame mini games that occasionally occur during the campaign. I played this game not too long ago. This was an excellent game that I would recommend any Final Fantasy fan to check out. The start of the game was a little slow and the battle system was a bit tricky. After playing for a little while it wasnt a big deal to get the hang of it. I feel as if all the games under the "Fabula Nova Crystallis" banner were designed to be confusing. The game also has similar lore from XIII that Type 0 doesn't explain well, so if someone were to jump in straight to Type 0 they would most likely be confused. Although some characters are a lot better than others. I find it funny that a few of the secondary characters have better voice acting than some of the main cast. (Also the pronunciation of "Kurasame" has a wide spectrum from perfect to hilariously butchered.)Gameplay: Compared to Final Fantasy XIII (the last Final Fantasy I played) I think this one is much better. It plays similar to Final Fantasy X where you get ambushed periodically while you run around and Final Fantasy XII where you control the party leader, the AI controls the others, and you can switch leaders at any time while in battle. My main gripe is how the game doesn't exactly tell you how to use important abilities. For example, I was halfway through chapter 4 before I figured out how to heal my party with Cure and I STILL don't know how to charge up the Vermillion Bird spell. (Anyone else figure this out please leave a comment.)Conclusion: For all its faults, and there are many, I still enjoyed playing this game oddly enough. I enjoyed it enough to go after the platinum and I enjoyed it enough to continue with a New Game+. I feel as if I should be giving it a 2 out of 5 because some part of me feels it does not deserve a 4, but I honestly liked playing it. In my opinion, you can compare this to XII. If you enjoyed XII you'll enjoy Type 0.
