Absolutely love this blend

Judging by the complaints that say it is "woodchips" I was expecting to open the bag and find big pine bark chunks, but it's actually shavings. I was pleasantly surprised. It is quite light and fluffy, but if you squeeze it, it can still bind together, so there's obviously a decent manure content to it. If you're looking for a bag of manure I can see how you might be disappointed - this is not a bag of manure, it's more like fine mulch or compost with added manure content. I think some people see "blend" and think "negligible manure content stretched as far as possible with cheap wood filler"... if it was marketed on the bag as "compost with cow manure" or similar then I think people would be less negative about finding that it is a wood shavings blend.I think ... MoreJudging by the complaints that say it is "woodchips" I was expecting to open the bag and find big pine bark chunks, but it's actually shavings. The texture is great, and my plants respond to it really fast. I prefer it over other bagged composts which can seem a bit dry and underwhelming.I've found it great for screening and using in homemade seed raising mix and pots - the texture is fine enough that there aren't many large chunks to screen out, and the few that were left go into the compost bin or as top dressing for other plants. It holds moisture brilliantly, which has been great for keeping seeds and seedlings at a consistent moisture level, without being too "heavy". I've used it when planting out new trees, which have then hit the ground running. I've also used it in a raised garden bed, mixed with standard compost. Sometimes I'll just throw a lazy handful on top of any pot that needs perking up. It has been a hit everywhere in the garden that I have used it. I've even used it straight as potting mix, in a pinch, when that was all I had.If you have a worm farm, treat them to some of this blend as bedding. I've had home worm farms for years but I've never seen such fat, energetic worms, and so many cocoons and babies - they LOVE it. It holds moisture without making things soggy, and because it is fluffy it keeps a lot of air in the bedding. And one bag goes a long way!I love this blend, I use it in lots of different areas in the garden, and will always buy a couple of bags whenever I'm at Bunnings. Fantastic stuff, definitely recommend it.

Quite happy with this mix considering how inexpensive it is. It can have some large chunks in it, I throw them on the ground and then step on them to crush them up. You can't expect too much for $3.50 but this is pretty good considering the price. Manure from the farm would be the first choice.

Good product for pots or garden beds

I have purchased Fine Farms Blended Cow Manure several times for my new garden beds and pots. There is a lot more blended ingredients than there is manure...just beware of this. This has not always been the case in the past. I generally use this product in combination to bulk compost from a landscape supply shop in addition to real composted manure sourced elsewhere. I find that this product is good as a bulk filler for my large pots as it is very economical before using compost or potting mix.The 25l bags are also a convenient size to take up to the back of the garden where bulk material in a wheelbarrow cannot get to.I generally like to buy this product in quantities of about 30 bags or so...it’s really good that Bunnings now have a delivery service. Great all-rounder blend for the garden
11 September 2021

This is my go-to manure blend throughout the garden - from raised veggie garden beds, to planting seedlings and bare rooted roses. I mix in with Blood and Bone for planting potatoes. Good texture and no smell. Terrific value and reliable quality.

It works
25 August 2021

I bought 2 bags of this few weeks ago and I am so happy that I did. I have started to see the difference in my plants (flower, veggie plants). Some of them were about to die but now doing well. I can see new leaves started coming and current leaves started changing colour to bit vibrant green. The spring weather is helping but still the product has made a difference. Will buy again.

It's just Mushroom Compost
30 September 2021

I bought 29 bags because the label said the blend was composted pine bark which to me would create a slightly acidic mix for my needs but the pH test results were alkaline off the chart which from my experience coincides with mushroom compost. After tipping a bag in a wheelbarrow and letting the rain get on it, sure enough I ended up with a wheelbarrow full of mushrooms as I predicted. The put the remaining 28 bags on the kerbside for the locals to take for free.

No smell and good all round fertiliser
30 November 2022

I like this cow manure as it doesn't smell, is cheap and is gentle enough to use all around the garden without burning the plants and vegetable seedlings. I just moved house and there are tired old raised garden beds and poor quality soil. I've been digging this cow manure in all over the place and also use it sprinkled around large shrubs, giving a good drink, and then topping with mulch. This is a good all round fertiliser and super cheap!

Poor quality. Super disappointing
23 December 2022

I purchased five bags and was extremely disappointed in the quality. The blend was easily 80% fibre, bark and wood chips that were not even close to being decomposed and it was highly unlikely there was any “cow poo” in the mix. Totally unfit for purpose. I have previously purchased this product with no real issues but this time I wasted my money and time. Clearly there is no oversight on quality control so whilst you may be happy with one purchase your next will be an epic fail. Is it worth the risk? Not really.

Value for money but actual percentage of cow manure is not listed
13 September 2021

For the money, it seems like a decent product. It's dark and rich but I have no idea how much manure is actually in the bag. It smells vaguely of cow manure so I'm sure there's 'some' in there. Think of this as mulch or soil improver with some cow manure and you'll be fine. It would be more honest if a percentage of cow manure and other ingredients was listed on the bag.

What's with the weight balls?
15 September 2021

Fine Farms are throwing in rocks & fist-sized concrete balls - (gravel mixed with concrete & soil formed into large balls) in the blend in both cows + poultry bags. It's not hard, dried manure.... it's concrete. Measure be put in place to deter companies from putting in weight balls. It's not fair on the customers & it reflects poorly on Bunnings.
