Two kingdoms at war – the peace-loving Hoshido and the glory-seeking Nohr – It's up to the player to decide which side to take. As the prince/princess of Hoshido, who was raised by Nohr royal family, you will be torn between two families you love. Whichever path you take, you will face different types of challenges. Features: For the first time in the series, the player plays as the main character and commands his or her own army. The player character is customizable avatar, like in the Fire Emblem Awakening game. Select male or female with many options. During the game, the player must make the choice between Hoshido and Nohr. Each path will offer a completely different storyline with a different set of characters to recruit as allies. The Hoshido path is a more traditional path as you work together with your allies to fend off Nohrian invaders. The Nohr path will force you to revolutionize an unruly kingdom from the inside – this path offers a slightly more complex story and will be more challenging.

Personally I did like this game mostly because of the little town hub and the customizability. Story-wise I wasn't really invested. It was alright. This was my first Fire Emblem game when it first came out, so I didn't have anything to compare it to at the time.

The Fire Emblem Series is a long established Nintendo series, dating back over 20 years. Fates is an excellent sequel. Birthright is one branch of the three part storyline and is a great start point, though it is possible to begin with Conquest first. Essentially, the overall story involves choosing 2 paths - the player does this by choosing either Birthright or Conquest. A further storyline (Revelation) is available as a download, but you have to have either of the other two first. Gameplay involves choosing actions in turn, rather like Pokmon, but that does not mean it is limited. There is a solid cast of characters, with developed backgrounds, together with many chances to level up and receive weapons. There are also online gaming possibilities with extras. I've been waiting for this game ever since I finished Fire Emblem: Awakening, and it did not disappoint! Highly recommended to anyone who loves Fire Emblem, strategy, dating sims, or waifus lol It's a really neat story and every playthrough of the game can be quite different! I really can't recommend it enough. The game comes in 2 variations (and a 3rd through dlc), Birthright and Conquest. I played through Birthright first, but also bought Conquest. Fantastic! My one thing I'll mention that Best Buy doesn't tell you, if you bought one of the games physically, and then the other as DLC you will NOT be able to use the DLC code through the regular 3ds store code redemption. You will need to play the game through Chapter 6, then you will be able to enter the code once ... MoreI've been waiting for this game ever since I finished Fire Emblem: Awakening, and it did not disappoint! I've played a few of the Fire Emblem games along with the two other version of Fates, Conquest and Revelations. As a Fire Emblem game, this one has many refined improvements. All the weapons can be infinitely used except for staffs and consumable items. The "My Castle" incentivizes me to come back and level everyone to max with all their skills. The cards that you get at the end of the game are the most important, since Revelations is my "true" version. In terms of the three versions, this version is definitely the easiest. Even when playing on the highest difficulty on normal, I found it fairly easy. This is mostly due to lots of money and experience being widely available. Scouting made things a lot easier. This game is different from the dual releases of Pokémon. This game is a completely different perspective from Conquest. I would recommend though to play this game first, Conquest second, and Revelations third. This is because it is easier to pay attention to the foundation that Birthright sets, before throwing your 3DS to the ground in frustration with Conquest.Pros:+Amount of in-game content is pretty large.+The new classes and characters are amazing+Phoenix mode is great for newcomers or young players+Great worthwhile DLC (Recommend the DLC Packs 1 & 2) and easy/convenient to obtain in game.+Voice work is pretty good.+Still things to do after endgame.+You can visit other people's castles and obtain characters and items.Cons-Can be way too easy for older or more experienced fans of the series- Visiting all the locations in My Castle after every battle gets tedious.- Marriage scenes aren't as good as Awakening
After loving Fire Emblem Awakening I was very excited to have a brand new Fire Emblem. However, Birthright failed to capture me with its characters the way Awakening did. All of the pieces are there to replicate the amazing experience of Awakening, but it ultimately fails to deliver memorable characters. The majority of the characters feel one-note or uninteresting, lacking any kind of complex personalities. The gameplay has received some fun twists that refresh the experience. New classes and twists on classic ones bring new kinds of strategies to experiment with, leading to fun character combinations. This is definitely a more difficult than Awakening, so if you’re looking for gameplay over story or character you may enjoy this game. Fire Emblem Fates Birthright will feel instantly familiar to fans of Awakening, the previous game in the series, while offering meaningful improvements. These include a better base management system, an expanded weapon triangle (the game's equivalent of rock/paper/scissors) and branching story lines. On a side note, to see both storylines you will need to purchase Fire Emblem Fates Conquest. I will avoid commenting on whether that split was a wise decision or not by Nintendo, but is widely agreed that the games offer different experiences and are both fully fleshed out in their own right. Birthright maintains Awakenings relationship building, side quests to continually level up, and the ability to turn off permanent-death (though my preference would be to leave it ... MoreFire Emblem Fates Birthright will feel instantly familiar to fans of Awakening, the previous game in the series, while offering meaningful improvements. Birthright maintains Awakenings relationship building, side quests to continually level up, and the ability to turn off permanent-death (though my preference would be to leave it on in order to keep the stakes high). For newcomers to the Fire Emblem franchise, or those that have played previous entries but are picking up these first Fates game, this is a solid starting point. The difficulty is reasonable, and there is always a joyful moment when beating a mission with all troops surviving (again, this is enhanced with perma death on).Story line is adequate. It has its twists and turns, but is fleshed out nicely by Post-battle interactions between troops. I found those to be charming, and certainly increased my attachment to the characters.Overall, this is a good buy for anyone looking for a strategy game with well-rounded RPG elements.
Wanted to purchase a physical copy of Birthright before the eShop closes. Was able to get this CIB version for a great price and it only took two days to arrive. Perfect condition and will be ordering more items soon!
Fire Emblem Awakening (the game in the Fire Emblem series just before this one) is my all-time favorite video game. I have replayed it a ridiculous number of times. I love everything about it- the plot, the mechanics, the characters. So I was really excited when the sequels came out. I literally made a stop on my way to checking myself in to the ER to buy this game. The mechanics are still fantastic (they made a lot of nice improvements from Awakening as well), but I was extremely disappointed in the plot. It's not bad, it's just not what I would expect from a Fire Emblem game. I get the feeling that to get the full plot, you have to play Birthright, Conquest, and Revelations. That's fine with me, but I wish they had let you know that in advance. To review just Fire Emblem Fates Birthright, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. It builds upon the Fire Emblem Awakening gameplay with a handful of balance tweaks and a couple of new abilities, such as Dragon Veins, which allow certain characters to permanently alter areas of any given map in real time. While the writing is characteristically good for a Fire Emblem game, the story fails to maintain any real interest, and is flat out cringeworthy at times. Thankfully, the strategic gameplay is as solid as ever, and doesn't detract from the game all that much. Those looking first and foremost for a rich story in an RPG won't find it here.Fire Emblem Fates Conquest brings with it a different approach to the same conflict presented in Birthright, with a marginally better ... MoreTo review just Fire Emblem Fates Birthright, I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. Those looking first and foremost for a rich story in an RPG won't find it here.Fire Emblem Fates Conquest brings with it a different approach to the same conflict presented in Birthright, with a marginally better story/plot, and trickier gameplay. Enemy units are more often outfitted with skills that will trip you up if you aren't mindful, and some map objectives present a higher difficulty than that found in Birthright.Fire Emblem Fates Revelation serves as the ultimate version of the branched storyline in Fire Emblem Fates, bringing both games' casts and gameplay together to bring the story to a full and proper conclusion. I've yet to beat Revelation, but so far it is shaping up to give Conquest (my favorite) a run for its money. For those looking for a no-frills Fire Emblem game out of Fates, I'd recommend starting with Birthright. For those who are already familiar with Fire Emblem and/or want a challenge, start with Conquest. The music is absolutely excellent in all three games, and the gameplay is generally solid. Overall, I'd give Fire Emblem Fates in its entirety 4.5 out of 5 stars.
This game is great i would leave it at that but i need to go into detail. It is a tactical turn based RPG and if you play on classic mode when a unit dies it wont come back next chapter so plan your moves carefully.it has to coherent story lines birthright you fight for Hoshido and defend your home land conquest you fight with Nohr and side with those who raised you.Now for what i like the graphics are great, the field sprites look very nice and the battle models are very fluid the characters are very likable and the 2D animatied cutscenes put even Disney to shame and the song lost in thoughts all alone is just great. it has a fortress builder witch is fun and there's a Waifu system witch i still don't understand why Japan likes Waifu but it affects how units pair ... MoreThis game is great i would leave it at that but i need to go into detail. It is a tactical turn based RPG and if you play on classic mode when a unit dies it wont come back next chapter so plan your moves carefully.it has to coherent story lines birthright you fight for Hoshido and defend your home land conquest you fight with Nohr and side with those who raised you.Now for what i like the graphics are great, the field sprites look very nice and the battle models are very fluid the characters are very likable and the 2D animatied cutscenes put even Disney to shame and the song lost in thoughts all alone is just great. it has a fortress builder witch is fun and there's a Waifu system witch i still don't understand why Japan likes Waifu but it affects how units pair up in battle and your avatar named Croin s completely customize able including gender name and voicenow for what i dont like the villain is unlikable but i guess that's his job but the sound track isnt very memorable lost in thoughts all alone is the only i can remember but over all it's a great game 4/5 would play many MANY times but don't waste time with amibo kinda lame
