This is a nice sturdy fireproof safe box in which to keep important papers. It's well made and it's just the right size for my needs. It has a handle which makes it easy to carry and it's not too heavy to lift. You can lock this box with a key (2 keys are provided). It's attractive enough to be stored on an open shelf. I'm happy with this item and would recommend. I

It is a decent sized box, but documents on regular 8 1/2 x 11 paper must be folded to fit inside. BUT it seemed damp inside when opened even with a large silica packet. There is a sticker indicating you need to open it for 20 minutes every two weeks to prevent moisture build up AND put your items inside a waterproof container or bag before storing. I bought a First Alert box several years ago that does not have this requirement and I usually only open it a couple of times a year, with no issues. I bought another brand of fireproof/waterproof box to keep some important items in and it said to open it ever few weeks, but I have found it not necessary to do so, but neither of the boxes I have purchased previously were damp when first opened.

2 Years ago I bought 4 of these for xmas gifts, after the Barefoot Investor suggested it would be a smart thing to do. Two years later and everything important to my friends have been ruined by mold. DO NOT BUY this product! Get a proper safe.

Excellent build quality for fire and water protection, easy to operate, registration of the key/serial number is easy, lighter than other products of a similar size and function. 8.5x11 inch paper just fits without folding. On the negative side, you have to remember to open the product every two weeks to air it out and prevent mold buildup. You should also put dessicant inside while the product is closed, to absorb moisture. All in all, this is a well-built product that has been tested as effective for fire and water protection.
I should have paid closer attention to measurements. It was a little smaller than I thought but big enough to hold full size sheets of paper laying flat. It says it can be submerged in water and still be water proof, I hope to not find out if this works or not but it is why I got it after my sisters house was flooded by her refrigerator. I have irreplaceable sentimental items in it. It also says fireproof. It is light enough to easily pick up and carry away in an emergency. It has a button to push to open. Its easy to open and close. I might buy another one for my son for his new house.
Apparently you have to maintain this fire and water proof box every two weeks by opening it for 20 minutes and then closing it again. Ridiculous activity needed for a product that is supposed to keep your important things safe by being locked up. Don’t risk your items getting moldy like ours did. They won’t let us return the product that Has mold after a year because “we didn’t maintain it properly”. How about making a safe box that doesn’t have to be opened to work properly? Will be tossing this and replacing with another brand.
I purchased this safe to store all my important documents in, Passports etc just over 12 months ago. I opened the safe up over the Xmas period (Dec 2021) and was horrified to see all the passports covered in Mold.... Not mildly covered, these passports are totally ruined.I've literally had to replace 2 Australian and 1 UK passport at a cost of over $650.... Annoyed isn't the word..... In all honestly can't fault Bunnings customer service, they have been great however they really shouldn't be selling this safe as it's clearly not fit for purpose - Advertising it as Fire Safe and Waterproof I would have thought this was one of the best places to store my documents..... how wrong was I!!!I do agree it's well made and solid but honestly do yourself a favour and ... MoreI purchased this safe to store all my important documents in, Passports etc just over 12 months ago. I ordered this box mainly for its waterproof and fireproof claims to keep some documents at home. I am concerned that the description recommends airing it out every two week, but I plan to put my documents in plastic bags. So hopefully that is not a problem.
Some people writing reviews below don't get HOW you should use these "safes!" I have quite a few of them myself...1. True, they're not really SAFES, they just a box to protect the contents from fire/water. And, they can easily be opened by a screwdriver and carried-off (so no real "security" either). But they're not SUPPOSED to be that! So...you put these "fire safes" into a larger steel "security safe" (your main "gun safe" or such, which yu shudl ALREADY have in order to safely store your guns/valuables) and the STEEL of the gun safe (and its weight, or being bolted-down) provides the needed security while these "fire safes" provide the fire/water protection. Even if they all use the same key, if it's kept INSIDE a "real" safe (or a RSC) then that doesn't matter, ... MoreSome people writing reviews below don't get HOW you should use these "safes!" Yes, they are "one-use-only" in a fire, and the lid will even melt itself to the top of the safe body -- it's DESIGNED that way, nothign "cheaply made" about it. And since it's destroyed, you just (when it cools off!) hammer
Arrived in undamaged box with walmart logo. Opened box. Inside had plenty of bubble wrap on top. Removed bubble wrap. Took out chest and found chest in manufacturers box made of thin cardboard. damage in back corner of box. Opened manufacturers box. Chest cracked on back corner. Returned to store. When ordered on line it said it was the last one. I also had read in the reviews about a similar problem .Just my luck . I think I received the same one that had been mentioned in the previous post in the reviews. When that previous customer returned it I believe it went back into stock and then they sold it to me. Walmart's packaging was fine undamaged, but the manufacturers was cheap and insufficient for heavy chest. Beware of third party sellers.
