Fisher & Paykel Pilairo Q Nasal Pillow Mask

The design of the F&P Pilairo Q was inspired by the aerodynamic flight of the worlds lightest little bird the hummingbird. The hummingbird can rotate its fine wings in a circle; it is the only bird able to fly forwards, backwards, up, down and sideways and can hover in midair. This drove the design of a mask seal which self-inflates around the nares in a hover-like way while providing total freedom of movement.Weighing in as one of our lightest nasal pillows mask (1.83 ounces/52 grams), the F&P Pilairo Q is light on the patient and big on performance. The clever design integrates a new self-inflating AirPillow Seal and minimalist headgear. As a result, the patient experiences freedom of movement coupled with stability they can trust. The revolutionary AirPillow Seal and lightweight comfort of the F&P Pilairo truly puts it in a league of its own.

The silicone piece that fits over one's nose is extremely thin at its base. Mine developed a small tear in it overnight while I slept. I do not know how this tear took place. I have been using a CPCP machine for over ten years now and this is the first time I have had an issue with the mask. Overall, the mask itself is comfortable to wear when it inflates. The ones that use the fabric design are much more durable than the thin layer of silicone at the base of the nose piece. I would suspect more issues with other customers have the same problem with the thin design (it is thin because it inflates like a balloon around your nose...which is extremely comfortable when it is working). I intend to keep mine but I had to mail back the entire mask for a warranty ... MoreThe silicone piece that fits over one's nose is extremely thin at its base. A frame of reference. I have been using the Swift LT and the Aloha nasal pillow masks for the past 10+ years. I find a nasal mask to uncomfortable and face masks do not provide a good enough seal for me. On occasion, my nose gets sore, usually from sleeping in a position where the pillow is shoved up my nose all night. I end up not being able to use a nasal pillow mask, instead trying to make do with a nasal mask (ComfortGel Blue Nasal CPAP Mask) even though the fit is not great. I see the Pilario as a mask/pillow hybrid. Not my favorite mask or one I'd use nightly, but instead one that will provide a good seal and be gentle on my nose if it is irritated. I recommend this mask though do like pillow masks mor.

Finally no leaks!

After many years and trying many, many masks this mask is the best. I found it to be comfortable, use of the adjustable headgear easy and best of all regardless of how many times I turn from side to side, it does not leak. I was a bit skeptical with the one size fits all. In this case at least, this is true for me. I typically have been using a nasal mask and always wanted to convert to nasal pillows, but always found they moved just enough to break a seal out of my nose, and would have to be reseated. The leak was loud and annoying, waking me up fully. I also found my nares to be sore with the pillows, not the case with the pilairo. The material is soft and supple. The fit has been excellent. This ring provides an additional seal, so even if the pillow unseats you still have a seal and no leaks. I also have found this mask does not leave the strap marks on my face, taking hours to get rid of. Look no further. Try this mask!

Great mask
28 April 2020

I am very happy with the Pilario Q. I first started with a philips full face gel mask as I breath through my mouth when I sleep without cpap so I thought that would work best for me. I found myself ripping it off while half asleep and gave up on cpap after a few weeks. My friend recommended this to me and it has been great. I havent ever ripped it off, no air leaks. I get a full nights sleep and dont ever breath through my mouth. I purchased 2 of them on sale as backups to my mask as they were cheaper on sale than buying all the individual pieces. Ive read that the spot where the headgear connects to the mask can break although I havent had a problem with mine so far, but just in case having a backup is good piece of mind and I like this mask so much I won't be ... MoreI am very happy with the Pilario Q. HORRIBLE NON-ADJUSTABLE headgear strap
21 June 2024

The NON-ADJUSTABLE headgear strap doesnt and isnt going to fit too many people. Mine is way too large but I cant reduce the size (tighten) the strap. Poor design but it also baffles me to think they would design and produce a non-adjustable strap. Worthless!

Owned a Few F & P Pilairo Q Masks Before - First Time Customer Here at Rapid CPAP - Very Pleased
16 September 2019

This is my fourth time purchasing the F & P Pilairo Q mask. I have had great success with it both in comfort and fit. As a first time buyer at Rapid CPAP, I must say that I am quite pleased. I sent an email to find out if this mask shipped with both types of head gear. It's not very clear in the description however both types have shipped with the mask with other sellers. Rapid CPAP quickly confirmed that it did include both the single strap head gear along with the more conventional style. The mask arrived very quickly (2 days), the price was right and the product is in AAA+ condition. I will be buying from Rapid CPAP again. Thank you.

Poor Quality
23 October 2023

I replaced my CPAP face mask recently. There is some kind of blockage restricts air flow when I'm on my side but not on my back. I've tested the open hose and confirmed that it must be near where the joint of the mask and hose meet. Too much money for Chinese-like quality. Now looking to another manufacturer because this is not reliable and my time is not free.

Positives and Negatives
20 June 2017

The positives first: + Doesn't blow on my boyfriend and disturb his sleep. Every other mask I have tried blows a strong stream of air if I am facing him and it wakes him up. The diffuser is amazing - I put my hand in front of the outlet and I can barely feel anything at all.+ Very, very quiet. I actually started wearing earplugs because my last mask was so loud. This one is silent.+ Once I became used to it - it is pretty comfortable. Negatives:- It took weeks to be able to wear it through the night and my nose not be sore and even bloody in the morning. I wore it about 4 days, had to go back to my old mask for my nose to heal, then wore it for 3 days with vaseline to protect my nose and it was great. - After 7 nights of wear I woke up one night sensing something ... MoreThe positives first: + Doesn't blow on my boyfriend and disturb his sleep. There was a one inch hole in the side of the nasal pillow. I have no idea how it happened. I am an ER RN so my nails are kept short and filed. So ... now I'm faced with deciding if the positives outweigh the negative of potentially having to shell out $23 every few weeks for a new nasal pillow.

Problems with this mask
27 December 2023

I have used various masks and have never had an issue with any of them until this mask. Because the pillows go around your nose and not just in your nostrils, I’m finding it is giving me CPAP dermatitis (rash). I’m going to be looking for a different mask that doesn’t cause skin irritation and redness.

Second try....
8 July 2020

3 1/2 years ago I was in a nursing home recovering from a near kidney shutdown. One day while in physical therapy I turned blue and ended up in the hospital a second time. The second day there someone sent my CPAP headgear out to be cleaned with the hospital owned headgear and mine didn't come back. So I ended up with a collection of things they tried to fit me with. Ended up ventilated over Carbon dioxide poisoning and spent 19 in a lung clinic. A few months ago I decided to try some of the collection and found the F&P Pilario did a good seal on the nostrils. As the unit was three years old I decided to try and get another from my supplier. I waited a couple of weeks and gave up and from here and was very satisfied. I'm glad I took the risk as my supplier sent me ... More3 1/2 years ago I was in a nursing home recovering from a near kidney shutdown.
