Okay some people leave reviews after only a day or two. I've used this for 3 years now and I do about 200 massive firewood bags of chopping per season. I can honestly say this is a beast. After all that time the axe is still holding up (no damage or anything) and it's been smashing through all kinds of rounds.I'd say if you are a more casual woodchopper or on the weaker side you may want to go look at the splitting axe instead (36") but if you are handling some really tough/large rounds this is the ideal tool for you ! Love fiskers products (I now have their sledge and splitting axe as well)

Great maul I purchased this as gift because the one I own has split over 100 full cord and still going strong . I won’t consider another maul. The head is still tight and right . The handle is very forgiving and comfortable. Over all tremendous splitting power that requires little added energy to efficiently split .

This is a fantastic block splitter. The leverage from the long handle, alongside the heavy head has made splitting red gum wood so much easier, though it took some getting use to with timing the swing and balancing my weight! It's very well built, and I expect it to last a long time. This replaces my old 1m long block splitter, which just wasn't cutting it anymore.

My husband and I watched a short You Tube video for wood splitting with this Maul, and we have been wanting one since watching the video. We have some down trees and we absolutely hate splitting wood. Although I have used Fiskars brand exclusively for crafts and scissors, I was not aware they also made tools. Fiskars is a great brand, their products are top of the line quality, durable, made to last. And this maul is true to the Fiskars brand, incredibly well made to handle the demolition projects we have started. Although we still haven’t split any wood, we aren’t dreading it now.I decided to use the mallet to break apart some concrete that had shrub, small tree roots growing underneath and causing the concrete to rise. Although we still haven’t split any wood, we aren’t dreading it now.I decided to use the mallet to break apart some concrete that had shrub, small tree roots growing underneath and causing the concrete to rise. I literally had the concrete broke off and was able to cut through the roots in less then 30 minutes. I didn’t think the hatchet was sharp enough to break through those roots, but it really did the job.We have now broke up a concrete slab, and demolished 2 aluminum walls on our shed using its Maul. We were really happy just to get a quality splitter, and found a gem for so many needs.
I've only used this maul a few times as we just bought it but I can say it was money well spent. This thing is a brute! We have been using just a splitting axe up till now (Fiskars..great axe too..have had it for a few years & have split tons of wood with it) and with the larger rounds it's a struggle at times! I'm the wood fetcher for the most part as I enjoy the workout. My hubby mentioned getting a maul. I had no idea what a maul was to be honest. An axe is an axe I thought. I'm a 130 lb woman & after I bought it I was wondering if I'd be able to swing it properly with it being heavier than the axe we have but it was no problem. I love this thing. It's bad as-! It splits the 12-15" ash rounds what we have easily. We burn all winter so so through a ton of wood. I like this maul. So far it works really nicely for me. It's been nice to tidy up the yard and split some wood for the fire pit. This Fiskars Pro IsoCore model is an eight pounder. It is pretty heavy for me, but you need that force usually to get a nice grain split in the wood. I like the grip because it doesn't hurt my hands. I also like that it has a reusable blade edge cover. It's molded so the head doesn't detach. There is also a nice blunt side on the back of the head. The lifetime warranty is also a plus. This tool will definitely be handy.
Love my Fiskars splitting axe, but after 20+ blows to a 15+” diameter by 18” long spruce log,I couldn’t crack it (didn’t want to wait for it to dry out more either). Based on reviews, I picked up the Fiskars maul yesterday and went to work on a dozen big logs tonight and it was fun! 4 swings to that same log and it cracked in half and the rest was easy. Worked my way through the logs no problem, even had to choke up a bit and reduce the force as the 8lbs head does all the work. I like chopping wood, find it therapeutic, and with this maul, I can tackle even the largest trees my Husky can cut.
Had an old splitting axe which was really struggling with logs. Got this instead and it breezed through splitting large thick rounds and knotty wood. Although more than double the weight needed far fewer strikes to split logs. The IsoCore does absorb a lot of vibration as well making it easier on the joints especially when driving a lot of force into the logs. No cons for me, was well worth the money
Just get this one! Its a great maul, good weight, sharpens easy and bites well. I've been using it splitting red stringy bark, it laughs at all other axes. The things just bounce back at you. Not with this maul! It splits it well. Best thing.... it ls not that expensive.Side note it a great work out using this thing.
This splitting maul is good quality, well designed, and very effective for splitting medium and large logs. I cut down a ash tree that was about 30 inches across at the main trunk. I was able to get clean splits with one single hit on most of the logs that were 18 inch across and about 19 to 20 inches long, with just moderate force swings. The logs that were 10 inches across or less, split clean almost effortlessly, basically just raising the maul and letting the weight of it fall on it's own. All of the wood was split in December (temp in the 40s Fahrenheit) within a couple of weeks after cutting the tree down. And, this was a green tree, not a dead one. And, I don't have much experience with splitting wood either, this was the first time I've ever split this much ... MoreThis splitting maul is good quality, well designed, and very effective for splitting medium and large logs. And, I don't have much experience with splitting wood either, this was the first time I've ever split this much wood. I had watched a few YouTube videos of splitting wood, and one problem that I saw people having with other splitting mauls and axes was that they would get stuck wedged in half split logs and they would have to struggle some to get them out. That really didn't happen at all with this maul. The very few times that it didn't split clean in two, I was able to lift the handle slightly and the maul slid right out without any force. I wasn't just satisfied with this maul, I was very impressed with it's performance, andwith it's design and quality. I highly recommend this maul. I think the price is a bit much for what it is, but you definitely won't be disappointed that you bought it, and it should last for many years if it's not abused or left out in the sun and weather when not being used.
