My first impression was how light this tool was compared to any other steel shovel or spade yard tool. I was expecting something wimpy and bendy. But I was surprised to see this tool was good to do the job it was designed for. Edging the lawn. If you have some paved spots that have soil eroded onto it and maybe even sprouts of grass or weeds, this tool will cut that soil area away from the lawn and allow you to weep away the soil and greenery. It is stiff and strong enough to allow you to push it into the soil and give a little push away from the pavement to keep that newly created trench to be pushed away from the walk, creating a nice edge. The light weight of the tool does not make it tiring to use it, and it is stiff enough to do the job. I love this edger. I'm experiencing none of the negatives mentioned in other reviews. It slices well, the handle is plenty sturdy for me and the edger light enough for me to handle (I'm female, age 73). I wish I had bought it ages ago. I had been using a large serrated kitchen carving knife to edge, which actually worked rather well, but I had to get down on my knees to use it. This works even better and I can stand up and use it. I sometimes hop on it a bit with both feet to give it an added thrust if I have a patch where turf is thick.

LOVE FISKARS EDGER!
25 April 2020

How can I say impressive! Upon opening my package I discovered the gardening tool that I never thought would be such a delight to use in my yard. I want to say how well-made this is, it is not a flimsy little garden shovel or edger it is very durable quality tool made of steel. This Fiskars edger gives a much cleaner edge than what my weed whacked does, and it’s easy to use by stepping on the lip of the edger. Works wonderfully and I got my 100 foot driveway edged for the spring. I plan to use this to edge around my flower beds, plus it will help me plant some garden vegetables, and I can even use this to airate the soil.

Nice Edger
27 April 2020

This edger is thirty-five inches long. The head of this edger is black in color and is made of steel metal. The handle of this edger is made of plastic that is in an orange color. The handle has a hole in it. I use this hole to hang this edger from my garage walls. I hang it from one of the tool hooks we have on the wall. The handle bar is made from a hollow structured plastic. The edger’s steel metal head has a ninety degree bend in it. That bend is to allow me to step on the edger to cut into the ground. It did a great job going into the soil around my walkway and my garden bed. I was very pleased with how well the edger did with the weight of my husband’s foot on it. This is a very sturdy and useful tool.

Fiskars Steel Long-Handled Edger (35 in.) Came in the nic of time since last summer my husband broke yet another shovel. I was surprised by how light the shovel was for how sturdy it is. It is made from minimal pieces and soldered where the handle meets the shovel. So far it seems like a very strong shovel that may actually withstand my husband's brute strength. I love how wide the foot plate is on it. I always struggle with the super thin strip on our other shovels. The tip is "sharp" but not sharp to the touch. We both really like the "T" shape to the handle as opposed to a standard shovel. My husband has limited use of one of his arms and this design he finds easier to use than the traditional one. My husband has limited use of one of his arms and this design he finds easier to use than the traditional one. It is also easier for my smaller frame because between the "T" shape and wide plate I can easily put my weight into it and break through the rock layer sitting right under our lawn that makes many projects extremely difficult for us. Our Fiskars steel shovel is a quick favorite for all the projects we have coming up this summer especially cleaning up the garden edging and putting in the new running path on our property. By time we're done with this path if this shovel holds up it will no doubt be the strongest shovel/edger we've used. I was playing with this shovel all day on our property and it is so light and easy to maneuver. When I say light I mean walking my several acre property with my toddler and it bot bothering me to. Ring the shovel along with me to work. I honestly am not a fan of shovels. I usually struggle with them. I was using this one handed half the time. It made cleaning up the garden bed take so much less time my mind was blown. Go figure, get the right tool for the job and suddenly it becomes easy lol.

Solid, well-designed, and well-made tool.
10 May 2022

Well-designed and well-made tool. I bought this item new to replace a nearly identical model by the same manufacturer that finally broke at the handle (sturdy plastic) after decades of very heavy use. I plan to soon fabricate a new handle for the old model, which should then allow many more years of use on that one. It is old, but much too good to discard, especially since I can easily give it new life.

Very Effective hand held edger
26 April 2020

The Fiskar steel long-handled edger is lightweight, fast and effective cleaning up or redefining edges! around flower beds, patios, driveways and edge of walks. No assembly required to get started. The footrest on the edge allows extra leverage for stubborn areas!Edging in moist soil conditions may lead to unintentionally unearthing the lawn turf . You can manage this by monitoring how deep you edge your areas! I would recommend it highly.

Works well, not too sharrp, wrong photo
24 June 2018

I saved myself a lot of effort with this edger. It's not too sharp, which was a feature I desired, but might not meet some needs. I find it does a good job, but I've only tried it on soft sod, nothing dried out.The first two Home Depot photos with this item are of a Fiskars Telescoping Multi-Weeder, not an edger, but the third photo of the black blade is correct. The handle is T-shaped, which gives me good control with two hands. It seems very solid, and I think it will last for years.

Works well. I would recommend it. I do not do a lot of edging so it isn’t something I will use all the time, but it is nice to have one on hand for when you do want to clean up some overgrown edges. It took a bit of weight for some of the tougher areas. Had to try and use two feet to weigh it down enough to cut completely through some spots, but it worked really well on the less tough areas. It is not as heavy as I expected it to be, it is actually pretty lightweight, but seems very durable. The handles were a good size for me and easy to grasp and hold on to. It stands upright really well or can be hung on a peg or hook which I like. There is not really much else to say about it. If you need an edger, this should get the job done for you.
