12ft pruning saw

When I received this pruner in the mail, it came in a large long box. When opening the plastic from the top of the pole it was not easy, but that’s a good thing it has a large sharp blade on it. The tip of the blade has a small plastic cover. When we attached the blade we had to twist off a wing nut and no tools were needed. When extending the pool to the desired length there is an orange hinge the you can open and close it to lock the pool in place. We trimmed a prince of a dead palm leaf. The poke was sturdy but it was hard to see it being cut since it was high up. I was very surprised that Frisierspiegels had made a pruner but it makes sense since they make other great tools. I highly recommend this product.

The saw blade on this product is of inferior quality and design and makes this product borderline useless. The blade is too thin and bends while trying to saw. This makes for frequent jams. It is a narrow kerf blade, better suited for fine sawing than tree branch pruning. The blade is made in Vietnam. The extendable locking handle is fine and the pruner was sharp and functional. The blade on my Snap-On hand pruning saw is far superior. My ancient Sandvik saw cuts better than this Fiskars unit. I should have read the poor reviews on this product before buying. I returned it to Lowes. Lowes should screen products before stocking them. The 14 foot Fiskars Pole Saw has better reviews and a better looking blade which is made is China.

Good Pruning Saw for Light Duty

I bought the Fiskars 12' Pole Pruning Saw @ my local Lowe's. Now, right up front, if you are looking to tackle heavy tree work, this is NOT your tool. However, if you are looking to do some light limb work comfortably without muscle fatigue, this is a very good choice. Now, the weight, balance, pruner, and locking mechanism are fine. The saw, well that is another issue. It is thin, flexes and is just okay. If you are planning to saw thick limbs without aggravation it's not happening. Go bigger, An inch and under shouldn't be a problem. You can cut bigger limbs, but I would definitely recommend you upsize.

Good Quality Fiskar Product
18 June 2021

Fiskar makes good quality products so expecting that same quality with this product. The product comes packaged in the sealed plastic covering the head/blade of the pruner. Some assembly required. Blade installs easily by removing the wing nut and washers locking into place. The blade has a plastic protective cover just for the tip of the blade and the end that connects to the pole. It would be nice to have a protective cover for the blade. It does fully extend to 12 ft. It can be incrementally adjusted. There are holes in the pole extension that lock into place for each interval. There is a thumb release to move it from interval to interval. The pole extension also locks into place with a locking mechanism. Although it extends to 12 feet, it can be a little awkward to balance and hold in place given the weight. It has a lopper with a rope that can cut branches the full 12 ft length. The branch thickness capability measures out to be an inch and cut easily and very well.

Great saw, poor pruner
17 September 2022

I bought this to cut both large limbs and trim off the smaller limbs and branches. The saw worked great even on the larger branches. However, I am not at all impressed with the pruner. It would not cut through even the smallest of limbs even after multiple rope pulls. I actually thought the blade had a cover on it which it did not. Its just a curved piece of metal but is not sharp. I'll just use the saw for all my trimming and not waste time with the pruner.

Hopeless
6 June 2022

Purchased a Friskas pruner recently after the one I had broke. It was absolutely hopeless and could not do the job. Even my husband found it difficult to use. Needs too much strength for blade to cut through branch. I took it back and exchanged it for a Trojan brand. Absolutely fantastic! Easy to use and a good sharp blade. Exactly what you need.Staff not that happy to exchange, but it didn’t do the job I bought it for.

Rope starts to bind after a few hours use
12 April 2023

The rope starts to bind and rub after a few hours of use. You have to work it out as the spring releases it. As it starts to rub, the sheathing of the rope starts to wear away, eventually the rope breaks, luckily there is plenty of rope that you feed it through, tie it off and continue. I own a fruit farm and have been pruning my trees last few months. This is my second tree pruner (fiskar) this year. The other one, the return spring broke after a month of use. I have bought cheaper ones in the past and would get about 3 years use before something would break that can't be replaced and I would go out and buy another. I bought the fiskar because of the lifetime warantee, just need to hold onto the receipt. You can only cut a branch as big as what fits inside there.

Stable
29 June 2021

So just an FYI, this thing is huge. If your brain was like mine and said "it extends to 12 feet, so it should be about 6 feet collapsed" then it is wrong. The dang thing is like 8 feet and extends another 4, which is good for stability and bad for fitting it nicely through doors. Now about using it. Works well. Saw blade is sharp and the pole doesn't feel like it will bend while sawing a particularly tough branch. I would recommend not over-exerting your reach, as the saw blade is unprotected and poses a safety risk if you don't have full control over it. For the cutter feature (side note I very much like the second cutting feature it is nice to have both options available at the same time if needed), the rope is great. Strong pole holds up to hard pulls
12 September 2022

I trimmed 2 tall California Pepper trees off the second story of my house. I have not used the saw blade yet. It works as designed. I pulled hard on some of the cuts and the pole bent slightly as expected but was strong enough for everything I cut. I used wire cutters to open the package at the bottom prior to sliding the pole out. The fiberglass split on the red one [different brand] I had before, so I spent a little more and bought this one. I like it.

Sturdy and lightweight pruner
20 July 2021

This pruning saw was my first. I needed a way to clear some dead branches from a tree. I had some difficulty using the saw blade because of branch movement, but the other blade worked exceptionally smoothly. I noticed when extending the pole that there were only a few positions that lock into place with the holes drilled into the center shaft. While it did operate for me while not locked into the holes, it is not per the safety guidelines. There is also a red line to let you know that you've pulled too far.I was impressed with how lightweight the product is, making it easy to maneuver. One thing I wish there was a better way to store the rope since it is so much longer than the pole while in its shortest position.
