Purchased this product to prune some out of reach branches on a Jacaranda. The pruning function is so easy to use. At full or nearly full extension the saw option a little difficult as you would expect when extended. The saw teeth are designed to cut on the reverse (backward) stroke, so a little downward pressure on the pole on backward stroke, let the blade do the work and have a little patience. Its a well made product, is cheap and does what it is supposed to do. Like all tools you need to know how to use it!!

Owning a number of excellent Fiskars products was surprised at the poor quality of this pruner. Upon first use, the telescopic pole slid out of the locking mechanism and remained in the branch. After getting everything reassembled and tightened the exact same fault occurred. A check on other websites suggests this is a common fault and a potential safety hazard.

When you saw a branch the lock holding the thinner pole inside the other pole isn’t strong enough and comes apart when sawing. Used it for 10 minutes and had to climb up tree 3 times to retrieve top half of pruner. Heading back to get a refund

I bought this tool 2 days ago from Bunnings Oxenford. After some hassle with stock, I at last departed with my prize tool to prune happily ever after. But wait...Filled with emotional joy, I could not wait to try it out. As soon as I returned home, I removed the tool from the saw blade cover and read the instructions - oh wait, there are none. Anyway, how complicated could it be. I extended it to a where appeared a hand drawn red line on the inner shaft and set about sawing that pesky frond that was out of reach of my old Aldi pruner. 2-3 strokes and the pole came apart, it did not separate from the inner tube, the plastic part that connects the main tube came away leaving the saw and inner tube dangling (luckily not imbedded in my head). Out with the ladder and up the tree to retrieve it, something which at my age I should not be doing. I know this is my story but it sounds very much the same experience as at least 2 other reviewers. I have tightened the nuts that hold the plastic bracket but will return the pruner if it happens again. Come on Fiskars, you can do better than this.
Poor quality of pole and plastic (wingnut housing) gave way after almost a year although the blade is a good one. I got good use cutting some camphor laurel branches and other exotic tree branches before the pole saw gave out. Better to try more pro products which are double to triple the price like a Barnel or a Silky pole saw (friends say they have lasted 5 years plus).
I bought this last week to cut some seed pods of my palm tree. Within 2 minutes of use the two part pole separated leaving one part stuck in my palm. After getting a ladder to retrieve it I then reattached the two sections and tried again. Within 5 more minutes of use the blade section detached from the pole leaving it stuck up my palm tree. This product is very poor and I don’t recommend.
When extended the lack of stiffness makes this device almost useless to saw a branch. The telescopic function cannot be tightened and the wing nut is not strong enough a d the inner extendable pole slips inside the outer pole. An absolute waste of money.
Overpriced for what it is. It extends but once you start soaring and it gets caught it quite easily breaks in the middle and you need to re-attach it. You can adjust it to make it tighter but eventually it will grab and pull apart and be a nightmare to get down out of the tree because it’s hanging up so high and out of reach.
I needed a blade for my Fiscars 4.5m saw but replacement blade n/a and at time this was the only one in stock. The length adjusting system is useless, inner pole came out leaving the razor sharp blade and half a handle swinging in the tree. This one lasted 5 minutes, its predecessor lasted 9 years. I highly recommend the Fiscars 4.5m model. On the positive side the blades are the same and I put the new blade on the old pole, good as new. In effect, I paid $79 for a new blade.
I bought this a few years ago, and while it was just ok, the handle comes apart and I had to make my own alterations so the saw wasn't left swinging up high in the tree. Whoever designed the handle needs to work in a different field. Don't bother with this one, spend $50 more and get the longer aluminium one - it is SO much better and works very well.Fiskars should stop wasting everyone's time making this one and just make replacement saws for the next model up for when they get blunt.
