New MR277’s were rolled out at my company to replace multiple devices.I’ve now used mine for a couple of months and while it succeeds at simplifying inspection of water related jobs by reducing the number of tools one has to carry, it fails to deliver the streamlined experience that it should.Some problems I’ve found are:* IR Temperature & Moisture alarms have to be manually set up EVERY TIME the unit is turned on. This has me reaching for my old Surveymaster when in need of quick readings.* Psychrometric units of measure cannot be individually selected. So, if I want to see temperature displayed in Celsius, I can’t see Mixing Ratio displayed in GPP. As these are standard industry units in Canada, I’m still forced to use a psychrometric calculator when filling in my reports.* When transferring photos to mi iOS device using MeterLink, each file can take up to 60 seconds, and there’s no option to select and transfer multiple files at once. On some occasions, I’ve waited several minutes to transfer half a dozen photos to my phone only to find that most photos were not successfully sent.* The cap for the RH/Temp sensor has a rubber ring/gasket inside that keeps it in place. Without exception, this ring becomes dislodged EVERY TIME the cap is removed to take readings. I have sausage fingers that don’t fit into the cap and therefore I’m unable to reposition the gasket into its slot; so every night I take it home and ask my wife to use her slender hands to fix it for me so that my sensor can be capped. Rinse and repeat daily.* Within my company, two of my coworkers have reported that their MR277 was working fine until the battery needed to be charged for the first time. After charging it fully, the unit would not turn back on. Their meters were sent back for replacement.Overall, I like the MR277 for its convenience and ease of use. I think most of the flaws could easily be fixed with a firmware update. If this were to happen, I would very enthusiastically recommend it to anyone in the industry.The thermal image quality is a vast improvement from previous compact Flir cameras, but is by no means a replacement for a full-sized unit.
