I purchased this meter back in March while I was working in an automotive R&D test facility. I have had several DMMs, but usually a splash of diesel or a hard drop would kill them. I finally splurged and went with a meter that I knew I'd be happy with, and I'm glad I did. I can rinse this off if it gets something nasty on it, and now at my new position in an aerospace R&D group, it's still trusted enough to be allowed through calibration and is my go-to for quick measurements.

Great Multimeter
24 October 2018

The Fluke 28 II is exactly what I was looking for in a ruggedized multimeter. It is a heavy duty version of the Fluke 87-V. While it is a bit bulkier in size, being able to withstand a 3 meter drop, water prof, being sealed against dust etc., are good features that outweigh the size difference. I have only had a little time to use it, but so far it has done what it said.

Great meter, useless battery design
11 June 2020

I purchased this unit approximately one year ago it has performed flawlessly and reliably.Working in remote areas I thought it prudent to read the manual for battery replacement. Manual states that you require AA batteries and Phillips head screwdriver, imagine my surprise when the batteries fail and I go to replace them and find that the screws in the manual referred to as Phillips head are a specialised type screw which no sane person would carry in their toolbox. Being 150km from the nearest town with a hardware store that was the end off the days work being unable to test the solar setup.Getting home I find in my toolkit a torque head that fits this unusual screw, opening the compartment I find a battery holder that Quasimodo on a sad day would have ... MoreI purchased this unit approximately one year ago it has performed flawlessly and reliably.Working in remote areas I thought it prudent to read the manual for battery replacement. KLUTZ!
9 August 2012

I was thinking of buying an 87V but decided to try the mil-spec "heavy duty" version of the 87V; the FLUKE 28||. Mind you this was only the second VOM meter I ever purchased & the most expensive thus far, so I was afraid of even getting it dirty. While performing maintenance on a commercial building I had an incident. I didn't have it for a week before the klutz in me took over & the meter did a peter-pan out of my grasp, bounced off the roof access ladder & in my horror I watched helplessly as my FLUKE 28|| plummeted in slow motion thirty feet before smacking into solid concrete. After finding no exterior damage I turned it on & to my astonishment it worked! The only thing I can find wrong with it is the loud beeper is silent, I have the T5-600 if I really need to ... MoreI was thinking of buying an 87V but decided to try the mil-spec "heavy duty" version of the 87V; the FLUKE 28||. I know I should have the meter properly calibrated to make sure it's still accurate but I tested it on some known electrical effects & it's accurate enough for me right now. as for the beeper... I don't miss it. If it was any other meter besides the FLUKE 28||, I assure you it would've involved a broom & dustpan!

Safe Meter
12 December 2016

I bought this meter about a year ago and liked its safety features Readings were quick and stable. A big plus is It uses three AA alkaline batteries that can last up to 600 hours. The unit is packed with a pair of PVC test leads that does not plug into the meter easily, it requires a lot of force to get them seated properly. This premium Fluke multi meter should have been packaged with a set of premium Fluke silicone test leads.

Solid meter, great for marine work
14 July 2019

Great meter, with great sensitivity and the range of capabilities that cover the majority of the testing I do as a marine systems tech. I haven’t had an opportunity to test the waterproof rating but it’s good to know that it’s there. The meter is a little larger than I’d prefer but the trade off is worth the additional size in accuracy and features.

THE meter for WW3
20 April 2014

Functionally, this is almost exactly the same meter as the 87V in a substantially bigger and heavier shell. A great, great meter. But, it's way overbuilt for bench use and needlessly bulky. The AA batteries inside last a long time, which is a good thing because they are a pain to change. It's simple enough to remove the cover with an Allen key, but closing it back up is easier said than done--it doesn't quite fit flush. This is a worry only because the meter is supposed to be sealed, and if you don't put the back on right, water could get in and you are wasting all that extra $ you spent over the 87V. Plus, if you read the Fluke service manual, you find out that you need a precision torque driver to close the back properly and guarantee the seal. Drivers like that ... MoreFunctionally, this is almost exactly the same meter as the 87V in a substantially bigger and heavier shell. A great, great meter. Drivers like that cost $50 .Although the 28ii has a very good continuity tester--even a momentary connection causes it to beep--the 87V is ever slightly more sensitive. Not a big deal, but another plus for the 87V if you are pondering a choice between these operationally identical meters.

solid meter in more ways that one
7 December 2016

Finally took the plunge and bought a Fluke... very glad I did. Never going back to the cheap $20 ones that are unreliable and tend to break with any abuse. I was leaning towards the 87V, but ended up buying this one instead as it is built like a TANK. I work in the industrial water industry so the added protection sealed the deal for me.Accuracy, features, longevity... all things you expect from a Fluke are demonstrated here. Great product.
