Though being a 'little' aged, this is probably one of the best meters ever made: simple to use, accurate, and very easy to repair (provided you can find spares). The plus of this meter was 40 years ago, the bargraph under the numeric display. The slogan at time being was something like 'race between analog and digital is over. The Fluke 7x has both'. The bargraph is very reactive and became a signature on every meter built later. The only drawback: spares are scarcely available due to its age. Knowing that, common failures are the 1k fuse resistor, an OEM part made by Philips, and the ADC. Both failures of the ADC: meter displays all digits for seconds then fade away, and the second failure, quite common: offset on some ranges, including ohms. And compared with the 170 series, I prefer by far this one: lighter, and DC current 'instantly' (no need to press an extra key).

I got the DVM back in the late 1980s/early 1990s. When I got it, I was in Electronic Circuit Design. Because of a career change to Computer Software Development, I use the meter now at home. It is my goto meter to testing anything electronic/electric.That means that the battery is now nearly/over 30 years old and I have never had to replace it. That is a great product;BTW, below it asks how long I have had it. "1 year or longer" is the max entry. I laughed. They should have have entries like 5 years, 10 years, 25 years, more than 25 years.

Multimeter gets the job done and this brand always comes back from calibration as compliant (at least for the first 10 years with daily usage). Very trustworthy.

Handy tool to have for any electrical troubleshooting job. From household projects to automotive to industrial, this unit works for most jobs. Has a handful of accessories that make it even more useful. I use it to work on ag equipment, electrical motors, house wiring projects, and auto electrical troubleshooting.
So I worked at Fluke as a designer in the 80's and brought home a 77 prototype. I moved on to another company in '85 but have kept that DVM since. It's been dropped many times and I've gone through I think 3 or 4 9v batteries and it's still going strong after 35 years. Fluke had a robust qualification process that included temperature, humidity, shock, EMI and vibration abuses. When it's time I'll upgrade to another Fluke but I think this one will outlive me.
Bought this meter about 6-8 months ago and haven't had any issues. Replaced my old 77 series with this and the newer version is a definite upgrade as it should be. It's voltage range suits well for plc, electronics, and automated service circuit systems troubleshooting. Well suited for field technicians and mechanics alike. Fluke does not disappoint with its rugged package And true test to the elements. I have other meters And nothing is as reliable as my Fluke.
I worked in the Boeing Calibration lab and would see literally hundreds of these and typically about all I had to do was change batteries and fuses. Issued by toolrooms for production use, sometimes factory, sometimes flightlie. They got torture tested. Under any normal circumstances these are virtually indestructible..
I needed an accurate meter for my Mechatronics classes in college at a reasonable price. The 77-IV I received didn't look great, but it was expected as it was decently used in the past. The bag the meter came in was dirty, the meter had some dirt stains and was sticky as were the leads. However, this is NOT A COMPLAINT, just an initial observation. The meter itself and the leads clean right up from a heavily used look to a very lightly used look with rubbing alcohol on a rag and some elbow grease. The case had sharpie marks on the top and bottom of the logo area to hide info written by, I presume, the previous owner. It CAN be cleaned off enough to show that information, which could cause some problems if sold to the wrong person, but that's highly unlikely. The case can be cleaned with soap and water then dried to give it a much cleaner look and feel. I tested the meter immediately after getting it with AC/DC circuits to check for accuracy against another Fluke, and it was just as accurate as a Fluke should be. I got this great DMM for a very reasonable price and hope to keep it for a LOOONG LOOONG TIME..
I am satisfied. New digital Multimeter in perfect condition that functions exactly as advertised. My old one was stolen and this is the upgraded model to it. I saved money and it performs exactly as I need it to. All for about $200.00 less than the going price. I am satisfied.
IT IS A VERY GOOD INSTRUMENT. It is also the second one that I have had.The first one I had got damaged recently and was no longer use able,So I went on line to try and get a new replacement. after approx. 20 yr. ( forget a NEW one, out of my pocket book--total shock at the price of a new one ) . so I went down the listings and found this one which I am satisfied with.
