With the Fluke 773, you can measure current loops without interrupting them. The major advantage is that the connected components do not need to be taken offline or bypassed for maintenance and verification of the loop. You save time when testing analog inputs and outputs on a PLC. Additionally, this method of measurement prevents the accidental opening of a critical loop, which could lead to operational voltage failures. You can also measure current loops directly on the device using serial measurement sockets, provide and simulate signals between 4 and 20 mA, and measure current loops while simultaneously powering the loop with 24 V. You can supply mA output signals with a linear ramp or a 25% step output signal, with the 4 to 20 mA output signal automatically adjusted for testing over longer distances. Furthermore, you can measure DC voltages up to 30 V and provide DC voltage of 1 - 5 V or 0 - 10 V. Scaled mA outputs offer a continuous mA signal that corresponds to the 4 to 20 mA signal measured by the mA current clamp. The mA output signal allows a digital logging multimeter or another device to record 4 to 20 mA signals without interrupting the loop. Additionally, an mA input/output is available: simultaneous measurement of the mA signal with the current clamp and provision of an mA signal. Input an mA signal into an instrument and measure 4 to 20 mA at the instrument's output, such as at valves or mA isolators.

The Fluke 773 Meter has made my work with process instrumentation far more enjoyable. Having to not break the loop to check the current is invaluable, and having voltmeter functionality available in the same meter saves even more time.Only one minor complaint -- the supplied leadset isn't up to the usual Fluke standard -- the wires are small and flimsy, rather than the nearly-indestructible test leads normally supplied with all other fluke meters that I've purchased.

Works great. Calibrated correctly. Half the price of Australian retailers.

As an E&I Engineer, the 773 has become a tool I use almost every day. Very convenient to allow testing of 4-20 mA loops without breaking the circuit. Also supports Sourcing and Simulation of 4-20 loops.
I have been using this meter for quite a while around water treatment plants and found it to be very useful at troubleshooting current loops. Clamp on meters for DC are relatively new but this works without bugs. We have both a 772 and a 773 meter. The 773 allows sourcing of a signal providing fast verification of new wiring. It is also quick to determine if an instrument has a faulty output or the display/PLC module is bad. There is no need to break a circuit to see why there is no voltage. It is almost a must-have for commisioning new IO.
This is an incredible troubleshooting tool. Quick check for mA with a error of only .06 mA in most cases. The VDC measurement, source, and simulate functions just add to the usefulness. I am very pleased with my purchase
I bought this meter thinking I mite get some use out of it, never really expecting it to be such a valuable asset to my daily fault finding role. The loop power and mA in out functions are brilliant. This meter is worth the high price paid for it. It is so easy to verify PLC analog inputs vs instrument issues, set up loop powered valves with feedback, etc without having to run in and out checking a HMI. Battery life is way better than expectedFluke connect & 24V source would be valuable upgrades
Awesome meter, no longer do you need to break open a circuit to get a reliable current reading while troubleshooting a transmitter. The built-in voltmeter is another plus, no need to carry around two meters.
The Fluke 773 is a great help when troubleshooting control loops. The ability to measure a 4-20ma signal without breaking the circuit is awesome!
I'm an industrial and commercial electrician. I often need to troubleshoot and commission controls. The 773 is invaluable. The ability to source a control loop as well as measure makes troubleshooting a system quick and easy. The ability to measure a 4-20 controls with out "breaking the loop" is very convenient. When this model is updated to Fluke Connect, look out!
