The leads that came are really nice with a rubber coating. Don't seem to tangle like cheap plastic leads. Easy to use and feels solid. Love the glow in the dark buttons too.

I needed a meter that would measure AC/DC voltage and current in both mA/uA. When it comes to tools I subscribe to the buy once cry once adage. The improved Battery life and ruggedness of the 87V-Max model is well worth the cost difference. Highly recommended

I've owned my 87-V Max for about a year. I like that it accurately measures current draw with DC induction motors using inverters and PWM controllers; measurements that fool other meters. I have no idea how this works, but I performed the calculations, and the meter read ~the correct value.It is perfectly accurate at 10VDC, measured against a Fluke 732B DC Standard.The 732B is a bit overkill for a handheld DMM, but it doesn't harm anything to use one for verification. I haven't had cause to use uA or uV scales, but I'll update if and when I do.Of note is that the 87-V Max is not approved for use in residential and domestic quarters and property zones, due to the more stringent FCC rules for electromagnetic interference in domestic zones.So, if you have an ... MoreI've owned my 87-V Max for about a year. The accuracy figures spec'ed by Fluke--the manufacturer--have been well within spec, at the DCV, ACA, kOHMS and DCA.I have precision instruments capable of making such an evaluation, including the aforementioned Fluke 732B DC Standard and an ESI SR104 Standard 10k Resistance Bridge, precision current shunts, and a Fluke 720A Precision Divider.I'm not claiming every example of the 87-V Max will be as good as mine. Phone order assistance was great, got the Fluke 87V Max so am well satisfied with purchase.After dropping a previous meter (Fluke 177) and seeing that the performance did not suffer, though the case wasn't in the greatest of shape. Good old duct tape has held it together for the last couple years. Finally decided that I needed to retire the 177, looked at the specifications and decided that this was the one I wanted to purchase, as a side reason I specifically wanted to have the drop factor as a consideration. I am well satisfied with this purchase.
I'm new to multimeters, but the Fluke 87 has a phenomenal reputation and the max version gives me piece of mind when the meter is sitting on an engine bay outside with the potential for falling or getting rained on.It was expensive, but I paid the premium because these are still made in the USA.
I had been eyeing an 87V for a while and decided to go with the Max. I feel it is worth the extra $50 to get one that will survive if I drop it (very likely) or get it wet (less likely, but you never know). The only cons are the size (I knew it was big, but it takes some getting used to compared to my previous meters). The leads seem to be high quality.
After repairing my beloved multimeter a number of times, I decided it was time for an upgrade. This multimeter is robust in functionality and rugged. I still repaired my old one but now it will be a spare that I expect to never need.
Have wanted a Fluke for long time. Ever since I was in the army years ago and used one then. I am a cabinet maker and am the shop foreman. We have quite a lot of machines. Everything from dust collectors to CNC's. I've already had to troubleshoot 3 phase 240volt and 480volt circuits and it worked perfect. (old building) It's good to know that the dusty environment that I work in won't effect the meter and at the end of the day it can be washed off.
