After being an electrician for over 30 years I can tell you don't want guess about electricity. I have several Fluke meters that most people want need but for the average person this meter is easy to use and at a good price. Auto select between AC & DC. Just turn it on and put your test probes on what your checking ( 600 Volts AC & under) and it will give you the voltage along with if it's AC or DC. Turn the knob to amps and slide forked end of meter over wire and you gets amps. GREAT PRODUCT.

I purchased this a few months ago to use at my work. The Fluke T5-600 is perfectly suited for my needs. Firstly, it's slim case design is convenient for carrying around in a pocket. The open jaw feature, combined with the slim profile, is another reason I chose this model. It makes it simple and easy to get Amp readings in tight spaces. The single dial is easily set and it is auto sensing for AC/DC. When you're troubleshooting in a time-critical situation (which is most of the time). it's great to be able to set the device and start taking readings. The probe wires are connected to the device internally. The probes are removable for replacement, and they are conveniently stored in slots on the rear of the case. If I had one con, it would be that it doesn't have a backlit display. I have used the Fluke meters from the beginning, and I currently own other Fluke devices.

This little meter shines in comparison to other meters for the $$. It's 3rd party tested with credentials, it's Fluke which means it rugged and accurate. I teach electrical safety so the T5-600 and T5-1000 are my go to so as to give my apprentices and techs the safest and best meter at a price point and size affordable and convenient

I have used Fluke multimeters my entire electrical career. I have trusted my life to Fluke in the industrial environment, as well as commercial and residential. What drew my interest in the T5's was the convenience factor, the leads are on the bottom and parallel to the case, because of this, I could easily slide the T5 in my hip pocket, and have for years upon years. I love the fact they are auto-ranging, too. Slender enough to fit between wires in panels. I always connect any meter I use to a known live circuit first. If the meter tells me it's dead, that meter is trash, an accident waiting to happen. I have never had a Fluke let me down, in 30 years.
This is my second t5-600.Love the light weight, multiple features (Amp clamp, vom).Higher resistance reading would be a plus, but I realize that Fluke doesn't want to eat into the market for it's other meters. My large Fluke meter has a lighted display. That would be awesome on the T5.Be warned: My old meter did not have detachable leads.I don't feel that feature is needed with this type of meter. If you put one of your probes in the socket in the back so you can test while holding the meter, it is very easy to get the probes in there so deep that once you try to remove them, they come unplugged from the leads.Mine would come unplugged every time.I called Fluke tech support and the tech got a T5 and was quickly able to recreate the problem. His ... MoreThis is my second t5-600.Love the light weight, multiple features (Amp clamp, vom).Higher resistance reading would be a plus, but I realize that Fluke doesn't want to eat into the market for it's other meters. My large Fluke meter has a lighted display. I mean it's a fluke what do you expect. Works great, battery last forever (I forget to turn it off quite often), tough as nails. Buddy has one with a cracked screen and you can still read it perfect. Leads and batteries are easy to change. Don't skimp out on a lifesaving device. Do your research. For you new maintenance guys/gals you can almost always save money by buying the 600v version of the T5. If your work does not deal with voltages over 480 then there is no need for the 1000v meter.
This is one of those tools that not only can I not live with out, but truly feel like I got my monies worth.Upon my retirement as a vocational instructor I had to buy my own meter after years of having one supplied to me. After years of purchasing this meter for my students and seeing the abuse that a high school student can put them thru there was no question in my mind what I was going to buy.I still have my original "Wiggy" that I got as an apprentice 40 years ago. I have every expectation that my Fluke T5-600 will be around just as long.
27 years in the Trade and I can't remember when I bought my first one! I wasn't so sure when this came out as I was a "wiggy" user back in the day however, having the ability to test voltage and current in one tool was pretty cool. I will never buy another tester for my bags unless Fluke can outdo this one! I supply my Electricians with this tester as well. I have never had any issues with any of the ones I've owned, the batteries last FOREVER, it's versatile and accurate enough for the smaller jobs. The automatic AC/DC distinction feature is excellent for troubleshooting! Stop reading the reviews and go buy this tester!
The meter measures amps, voltage and ohms. It does not require user to select a range for measurements just turn to Volts and it will determine AC/DC, Amps and it give readings, Ohms and it gives digital reading and audible to indicate continuity. No audible sound when there is no continuity and a OL digital reading. It also has a fork to accept wires up to 12 or 10 gauge for amp measurements. It has slots on the back to hold your probes with one allowing the probe to extend from the meter's holding slot so that you can use one hand to hold the meter and your other hand to hold probe to ground improving your view of the digital screen. It is lightweight and fits well in your hand. I like the smart aspects of the meter, name you can trust, accuracy, durability, and ... MoreThe meter measures amps, voltage and ohms. I anm thinking in buying one to replace my , but the advertising is Unclear if it can measure DC Current, and its range limit. Can the lighted display keep on? Does it has a “hold” option. Can the probes be detached? It seems to be permanently connected. What is the IP protection ?
