Beautiful Fish Tank. Difficult to Clean.

I wanted a tank that would look good in almost any environment and thus I bought the fluval edge after looking at a display tank in store. After close to 3 months of reaserch and questions on fish forums, I finally added decor, cycled the water and added fish. The tank was a bit slow to cycle (possibly due to the low oxygen content from the small hole on top) but all the nitrite, nitrate and ammonia levels evened out eventually. When it comes to cleaning, it can become difficult and time consuming due to the small hole you have to fit everything through. I have around 30 little plants that I arranged in the tank along with some large rocks and I have to rearrange everything each time I vacuum the tank (every 2 weeks to a month). Also, you have to make sure you refill the water level regularly or you might get some huge bubbles under the glass top. A magnetic tank scrubber will help a lot in those situations. If you are a perfectionist, this tank will take up a lot of your time but it really does pay off when you have guests over. I get comments on the tank a lot and a couple people sat infront of the tank for half an hour in the dark just starring at the fish. In conclusion, if you want an out-of-the-ordinary fish tank that attracts attention, this will probably do the trick.P.s. I attached some pictures of my setup. A friend of mine said artificial plants will never look close to as good as real aquatic plants. So I did a ton of searching online and looking through local fish stores (including Petco of course) and ended up spending an extra $80-100 on fake plants and rocks trying to prove him wrong. It turned out to look close enough to real plants that a member on a fish forum I was on thought they were real plants until he took a closer look. I still got a ways to go I guess.

The cons are the opening on top is not very big, so a little hard to get in and clean. With the perk of not seeing a visible water line and you get a great view on top of tank also comes with the fact that you can't simply reach into your tank whenever you want to. You have to empty out some water or it will overflow when you reach inside. We absolutely love the look of this aquarium. Yes, it's a bit more of a hassle to clean with the smaller opening in the top, but that is how the overall look is achieved. (You have to accept some trade-offs for aesthetics!) Unfortunately, the filter is very noisy and annoying. Soon: I bought a small replacement $15 "whisper quiet" filter (Aqueon QuietFlow, to be specific) that suction-cups to the back wall of the fluval tank. The cords are still all easily hidden in existing fluval aquarium framework ... problem solved!!! The additional filter is barely noticeable against the black background (but if you have white or gray, maybe it wouldn't work). Highly recommend, especially if you're willing to replace the filter.

Beautiful tank!
15 December 2017

I did a lot of research about this tank before making my purchase. Overall, I’m super happy with it. It is beautiful to look at and just the right size for my 1 bedroom apartment. Didn’t get 5 stars because the small opening at the top makes it a little awkward to decorate and the light really is only bright enough for 80% of the tank. I have fake plants in mine so not sure how great this tank would be for live plants. Still, I think it’s beautiful and looks sophisticated enough for my home. Easy to set up too. Also, I just ordered one for my dad... he was impressed with mine :))

Beautiful, compact, contemporary design

I bought the 23L model. An all-in-one kit with filter, touch on/off LED light and even water conditioners are included. Since the top part is sealed with only a small rectangular open space in the middle, making it a bit inconvenient to access hard to reach areas.Overall, a very stylish aquarium that goes well with a modern home.

Extremely satisfactory small aquarium!
20 February 2019

Easy setup, great product, arrived before scheduled date (!). Quiet filter, clear water from the start. One male betta lives in the tank quite happily, and there is clearly room for a catfish or maybe another betta if the current occupant is not too territorial. Small tank heater is not included, but is a necessary add-on to maintain optimum water temp. It will fit nicely into the system. This is a very attractive small fish tank and a sleek addition to my granite kitchen counter.

Fluval Edge

For those who want a small aquarium with that will make a statement, the Fluvial Edge could do the trick. The "floating" design and integrated pump and filter give this tank a clean look, and the sealed glass top makes it great for viewing from all angles. The only issues I have found so far are that the light switch is located on top of the light which can only be accessed by removing the top trim box, it can be difficult to clean due to the small access port on the top, and the "waterfall" flow from the pump tends to create a trench if you are using sand as your base. This might suggest that without some modification it may not be the best tank for Betas. If you intend to use gravel and can get past these other minor issues (as I have) it really is a striking ... MoreFor those who want a small aquarium with that will make a statement, the Fluvial Edge could do the trick. Fluval Edge - 12-Gallon Palace

I love this aquarium. I purchased the 6-gallon version a month ago and I was going to purchase another one, but I just bit the bullet and purchased the 12-gallon. The 12-gallon is a definite hit to the pocket, but the aquarium is classy and stylish, fits perfectly with our modern contemporary decor. I think I have become addicted to aquascaping as a result; these aquariums are so much fun to design. The filter with the added extensions (I used all of them for the 12-gallon and none for the 6-gallon) seems to work beautifully. Currently, there is only one betta in my 12-gallon, but I am going to add one snail, two cory catfish, and 4 other betta friendly community fish. I have small hands and relatively long arms, the opening of the aquarium is not a problem, but aquascaping is a bit difficult for me, because of the height, as I am a bit vertically challenged. I stand on a stepstool to help me visualize my landscape. The light seems brighter in the 12-gallon compared to my 6-gallon. I created a bonsai driftwood tree using java moss, so I am waiting for it to fill-in and surround it with large rocks and few African Ferns. I also like that the aquarium is completely covered, and the moonlight effect is a really nice addition; I use it to transition from day to night before shutting off the light.

Great Tank
23 September 2012

After maintaining a 1 gallon tank for about a year, my guppies had multiplied beyond the capacity of my current tank, so I decided I should upgrade to a bigger model. My first attraction to the Fluval Edge was the style. It is very streamlined and beautiful on display. I liked the 12 gallon option better because it is taller than most tanks and allows for a greater viewing area than shorter tanks. I also love the “Night Lighting” LED option as well. My tank lights up almost like a Glowlight tank at night. Be aware that even at night the lights are still too bright to be used in a bedroom, but it works perfectly in my living room. It lights my way to the kitchen at night without hurting my eyes. I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase. I only took a half point off for two reasons. First, the instructions illustrate how to remove the bubbles that form at the top of the tank when filling. I spent a lot of time removing bubbles only to find out that the filter kicks bubbles underneath the rim anyway. Don’t waste your time on bubble extraction. Lastly, I think the opening at the top could have been a little bigger. However, both reasons are petty compared to the awesomeness of this tank. Great Job Fluval!

My husband and I decided to buy this tank for our new apartment because we went with a clean, modern theme, and this tank was the only one we could find that looked like it was from the modern age. We chose the 12-gallon version because we wanted to aquascape with live plants and needed extra room for taller specimens. This tank reaches a height of 22 inches, which is considerably taller than other tanks of similar capacity. We have been thrilled with everything about this tank except the small opening at the top, which makes it difficult to plant and clean. But that's a small price to pay. The design is gorgeous and sleek and allows you to enjoy your fish from every angle, making photography and videography simple and elegant.Make your life easier by choosing accessories made specifically for the EDGE tanks, like the EDGE heater, thermometer, tank stand, net, algae magnet and gravel vacuum. These items are uniquely designed to fit the shape of the interior and exterior of the EDGE and also come in sleek and unobtrusive designs that match the aesthetics of this beautiful tank.Make sure when you choose decorations that you keep a "cheat sheet" with all the measurements of the tank, especially the opening. Or you may make it home with a lot of items you can't use. Also keep in mind that the gorgeous LED lights are not overly bright, so if you aquascape, choose plants that thrive in mid to low light. As quality goes, this tank is top notch. It is well caulked, the wires are all hidden by the plastic decorative housing, and the pump is extremely effective and completely silent. You will need a heater and a thermometer for most species, but other than that, everything else is included. Add some decor, flora and fauna, and you're done!
