I have never heard Bass this full, rich, and silly smooth before. I was blown away.My previous headphones were the Hifiman Sundaras & DCA & Drop Aeon Closed X (these broke and are unrepairable). My previous 2 did better with Treble detail, but the bass felt flat, but that is expected with Planar Magnetics. These absolutely blew my mind. However this pair does struggle a bit with the Treble Detail, but it's very competent, and you won't be disappointed. To me this feels like a rich bass forward experience with a natural fall off on the higher of highs.I tested these with a wide range of music from Metal, to Classical, to Drum & Bass (this is where I was really blown away with the level of detail), along with some Trance / Deep House. The Bass forward experience was really noticeable in Tiesto's Adagio for Strings as an example.Overall, for a closed back these are built well, and sound amazing.

I'm using the HiBy R6 Pro II and RME ADI 2 FS DAC as my sources and this headphone sounds fantastic with both. The Azurys gives me pretty much the same satisfaction, if not more, of listening to Focal's more expensive closed back offerings. It's definitely better to my ears than the Elegia or Celestee was. The excellent sound quality combined with the small, portable form factor is just the thing I was looking for! This headphone continues to surprise me with what it can do and it basically ticks all the boxes for me in regards to a versatile portable and desktop solution. The sound is very lively, vibrant, resolute, powerful when needed, and has a very pleasant tonality and tuning that works well with most genres. I listen very loudly and absolutely love how this little headphone can handle sustained loudness without causing any listening fatigue for me, as well as any technical or physical (driver) issues associated with playing loudly. It may be small, but the sound is big!Thank you Headphones.com for the opportunity to own this fantastic headphone from Focal!

Build quality is very good. Light-weight and comfortable, however the sound reproduction across the frequency spectrum is just fair. It appears the Azurys are tuned for thebass end and are lacking in the mids and treble end, alsodepending on the sound track the bass can at times be alittle boomy. Compared to my ATH-M50x, the ATH-M50xhas better sound reproduction across the frequency range. For me, Azurys sound reproduction does not meet theprice of $549.

I've only listened to the Azurys for about 5 hours total. I'm coming from a pair of Fostex TH-X00, which are hated by headphones.com along with every other Fostex product. I was looking for a new #1 headphone for home because the TH-X00 is big and clunky, and especially uncomfortable to use while lying in bed, which is where I do the majority of my headphone listening. I also own the Beyer DT-770 and Sennheiser HD6XX, so I feel like I have a decent spectrum of experience with which to judge the Azurys, both closed and open back, etc. But still the main competition is vs. the Fostex. While the Azurys has a smoother texture compared to the mild harshness of the Fostex, which I very much appreciate, the soundstage is so much smaller, more compressed... I'll use the word stifling. The Azurys is just stifling compared to the Fostex. No separation of instruments. No air. The sound is crammed inside a cardboard box. At this point I'm just baffled you like them so much. And it's disappointing because the Azurys of course has a lot going for it. So much more comfortable than the clunky Fostex, which was my main grievance. But the incredibly small soundstage is just too hard to live with. Will likely return them. Bummer.

These are my first "expensive" headphones, and wow! These things are clean and detailed with some amazing bass. The mids are a bit withdrawn which can make some vocals a little quiet but I think that's to be expected of closed backs in general. The detail and separation are fantastic. The build quality feels sturdy, light and comfortable. I wish for the money, focal included a nicer cable. It's memory prone but being a shorter cable, won't be as much of an issue like I've seen with the new open backs from Focal. As my first focal purchase, I can understand the hype and love the brand has garnered. I just hope these have overcome the build issues the older style focals seem to have.Overall, happy I ordered these and I'm floored with them and from what others much ... MoreThese are my first "expensive" headphones, and wow! For the price, these are great closed back headphones. They have bass, but not top tier sub-bass. There is almost no highs to speak of. Yet, the kids are really good and if I'm not evaluating them for a review, they're light, comfy, fun, etc. the cable sucks though and I have a new one on the way. You can't do much better for a closed back set anywhere near this price. My next step up is probably the Beyer T5 or the JMA Closed backs. Both cost far more.

I am starting this off by saying this is the best closed back I have heard with Resolve's eq. This includes Beyerdynamic Dt 700 Pro X, Dan Clark Aeon 2 Closed, DC Aeon 2 Noire, and Focal Celestee. My genres of choice are Power Metal, Thrash, and some Death. Also listened to Country, 80s pop, EDM, and Current day pop. The bass hits hard and mostly clean 2nd to DC Noire, mids are the best of a closed back bar none, treble not as good as DC Aeon Noire but 2nd best overall. I am not a big soundstage guy but separation was great also again 2nd to Noire. Great case and light and comfy( I have a size 7 3/4 head. With that said I returned them bc honestly closed back is not my jam. After going through the gamut there are no closed that match my personal favorites and tone ... MoreI am starting this off by saying this is the best closed back I have heard with Resolve's eq. Again if you want to try a travel friendly closed back, these are an excellent choice, also really easy to drive( used a Qudelix-5K).

A good headphone with a warm sound
26 July 2024

I have the HD600 and wanted a more warm/relaxed sounding headphone. This one by Focal is one such. It has a nice warm sound which at the same time, also provides good highs. The treble is not over extended but is just fine. Mids are good as well. Instrument separation and soundstage is good but not as good as the Sennheiser HD600. Timbre is also good but probably lacks HD600. I love this one so far and is a good change from my HD600 which is probably better for detailed studio mastering listening.
