Focal Celestee Closed-Back High-end Headphones

Focal Celestee Headphones have a closed back design fitted with exclusive drivers for a high-end sound performance. The semi-aniline material and complex craftsmanship means Focal’s Celestee headphones are great for comfort and sound insulation. Focal Exclusive Drivers The Celestee headphones use Focal’s exclusive 40mm aluminium/magnesium electrodynamic full-range speaker drivers for excellent dynamics and high precision sound. They deliver a linear frequency response that extends to 23 kHz and the ‘M’-shaped inverted dome design and larger emissive surface area improves listening clarity. Earcup Design The Celestee ear-cups have acoustic properties to prevent resonance and to achieve a clean and precise audio with improved bass extension. High-Quality Materials Focal’s Celestee Headphones are crafted with high quality materials such as semi-aniline leather on the earpads, headband and earcups, which are overlaid with a stainless steel grille. The headband uses leather on the outside with microfibre on the inside. This use of material is key for the Celestee’s aesthetics and comfort. Insulated Sound The Celestee headphones are suitable for home-use and for on the go. The low impedance, together with the semi-aniline leather design achieves uncompromising audio from these comfortable and soundproof headphones.

From the outer, Celestee shipping box to the hard shell, zippered, carrying case, everything about these speaks high end. The Analine leather ear cushions fit softly around the ears. The sound is pure Focal—I’ve owned a pair of 926 bookshelf monitors and these are every bit as good. The closed back design keeps out most room noises. I found myself truly just enjoying the music. The Celestee’s may seem expensive for a pair of headphones. Honestly? The are! But for a pair of end game, drop the mic headphones, they’re worth every penny.

The build quality is excellent as you would expect from a Focal. The soundstage is narrow which would be considered as a downside. The sound quality makes it so good that you will feel the difference if you are upgrading from a bluetooth headphone. The bass response is very good and you can feel the bass. It can be run without an amplifier, but it sure as hell benefits from one. I paired it with a zen dac v2 and the difference in sound quality was night and day. Overall, a very good headphone, very well worth the price.

As my wife has started working nights, I needed a closed-back set of headphones, having Sennheiser HD600 and AKG 702 open-back pairs. I was able to test both the Elegia and Celestee models, thanks to the helpful staff at the Manchester City Centre shop (which has some quality audio gear in stock these days!). The Celestee was a lot more detailed and natural-sounding, and I went for those - they were at a very good, reduced price. I continue to be impressed: the best closed-back headphones I have heard, and an improvement in most areas on my other pairs. They show very little of the 'cupped' or 'boxy' sound that other closed headphones I have heard exhibit. The height and width of the more speaker-like soundstage is another striking virtue. One obvious problem for home hi-fi users is the supplied cable, which at less than a metre in length is quite daft! [Fine for portable uses, obviously] I managed to get a good quality 3m cable from ScandiSound via Estsy for £90 and am now well-chuffed with both the sound of my Focals and their usability. This has been a worthwhile investment: not exactly cheap, but it is worth pushing the boat out a bit to avoid something disappointing, if you need to get closed-back headphones.

Boom, the closed back I have been looking for
10 August 2021

I have not heard Focal headphones before, previously I have been using Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser or Audeze etc. All of these have been open back and I needed something to keep the little daily noises out of the music. Straight out of the box these were amazing, great sound and wonderful build, they also look very sexy in the flesh. Brilliant.Oh and great service as usual, big up to Marko from Southampton store, amazing customer service.

I've been breaking these in for the entire week and I'm loving them. I did have the Elegia's before them and the Elegia's were missing something. I couldn't put my finger quite on it, but it was missing something in the midrange, it was just weird to me. Tried for about 3 weeks to love them and had to keep playing with my EQ.Now fast forward to the Celestee, I love them. I do not have to fuss with the EQ (as it is to my liking and ears). It is very intimate in that it's sound-stage is smaller, but I also own the LCD-5 for critical listening and a wider sound stage. At times, my brain can't process all that information, especially when I'm working and multi-tasking. It is a great headphone.Superb quality in build from the headband down to the earpads. The sound is superb. It does have its own sound signature and I highly suggest you all look at youtube reviews to see if its signatures are right for you. I personally love it :) I play these off of my TT2 and Zen stack. Love the sound off of both!

Focal Celestee
19 May 2021

I had to wait about 10 weeks until I could get these headphones after I first learned that they would be release in January of 2021. The quality and sound on these are really great as is the fit. They seem very sturdy and look really nice. Moon Audio was the first place that I could find that received shipment on these so kudos to them. The only complaint is the the cable that comes with this product is way to short and Moon Audio even suggested buying a replacement for it. I had trouble wanting to spend about the same amound on the cable as I did on the headphones themselves. So, for now, I am stuck with either buying another cable or a cable extension. A bit frustrating. But, the product is worth the wait.

Great Value for the performance on offer

Purchased these along with the Fiio BTR5 for on the go listening, occasional desk use. So far am very impressed.Have tried tone sounds to determine if there is any difference left to right as reported on ASA, but my ears can't detect anything. These may not have the sound stage as LCD or Meze or HD800, but nowhere near the price either. They do have a heavy clamp force, but to me this is very comfortable, and most importantly they stay put when your laying back listening to your music.Overall I am very happy with these headphones, the sound quality is much better than QC35ii, but the price is more than double so I expected that, it it hasn't disappointed. They do take a while to wear in, maybe its me getting used to the sound, but I am hearing a lot more detail ... MorePurchased these along with the Fiio BTR5 for on the go listening, occasional desk use. Music in my head
20 December 2021

With family taking over the living room and kid's tastes dominating the entertainment choices I invested in my first headphone upgrade since the 1990s.Many thanks to Matthew and the team at Richer Sounds for getting me the desired candidates and giving me time and space to thoroughly deliberate and make up my very subjective choice. The Focal Celestee are very typical closed back with a very tight 'in your head' sound - binaural recordings sound fantastic. I compared with the Clear MG which obviously has a much wider soundstage but it just sounded to 'nice and the clean ' whereas the Celestee put my ear right into the music giving me the occasional goosebumps.Needs a more powerful headphone amp though in my mind so I upgraded that too..

Outstanding Headphone/Cable Pairing.
15 September 2021

This is my first set of hifi headphones, having just recently upgraded from the Oppo PM-3. The clarity, response, and balance of the sound from this pair is outstanding. There are instruments, intonations in the vocals, and bass lines I have never noticed before in songs I’ve listened to hundreds of times. The Black Dragon cable pairing with these headphones have made me enjoy music while working from home at a much high-level. Looking forward to using these headphones for the months and years to come.

Very nice, neutral souind
28 November 2022

The Celestee offers a nice, neutral sound with a slight bias toward low frequencies. I needed a closed back set of cans for when I am in a waiting room and my everyday Planar magnetic models are open backed and intrusive to others there with me. The overall build quality is very good and the over ear cups very comfortable.
