Prior to buying this, I had bought a Nesco vacuum sealer system for my husband for Christmas 2 years ago because it was on sale and he has always wanted one. For the price (even on sale) it was a huge piece of junk. The bag that you placed on the sealer strip was so poorly made, that anytime you used the seal function, when you where done and you go and remove the bag and lifted it, the metal strip that was hot would lift up with the bag. It was constantly over heating causing it to shut off, you’d have to take scissors to the roll to cut the length you wanted and only half the time would it actually seal and vacuum the air out. My last straw with the Nesco product was when it completely stopped working after 4 months of hardly using it and it just became a dead ... MorePrior to buying this, I had bought a Nesco vacuum sealer system for my husband for Christmas 2 years ago because it was on sale and he has always wanted one. It was constantly over heating causing it to shut off, you’d have to take scissors to the roll to cut the length you wanted and only half the time would it actually seal and vacuum the air out. My last straw with the Nesco product was when it completely stopped working after 4 months of hardly using it and it just became a dead paper weight. A couple months later I came across FoodSaver and they where having a really good sale. I read a couple of reviews (I don’t usually read reviews and I rarely rely on them as I have found many websites especially Amazon’s website to have very inaccurate reviews of the product purchased. Majority of Amazon reviews are to good to be true (most of the time are) they lie in their reviews or never bought the product but where paid to post a fake review. A lot of them are bogus claims with very few “bad” reviews) anywho, I was a bit reluctant because of our horrible experience with the Nesco system and this particular model of the FoodSaver Vaccine Sealer was a bit more money wise. When we received it (took half a week to get to us, which with the Pandemic that had just gotten under way and things where back logged because of the Nationwide shut down, I was amazed how quickly it was delivered)My husband set it up, which was extremely easy! Plug it in, pop a roll in the machine and power it on!It’s an amazing product that works so easily, you really don’t need to read the instructions manual. You can just figure it out, it’s that simple and easy! Having a cutter built in is fantastic and it cuts out having to chase a pair of scissors down! When you have cut the length you want, you hit the seal button and insert one end of the bag to seal it. It tells you when it’s done “sealing” one end of it. You stick whatever your trying to preserve in the bad and stick the open end into the machine and it automatically start’s the vacuum process. One thing to note, is that it’s not a quiet machine do don’t use it while your baby(s) are down for a nap or for the night if they’re light sleepers. It sounds like a loud air compressor is in your kitchen! So I have figured if it doesn’t properly vacuum and seal, the bar of lights won’t all turn green, with the exception to the last one, which turns red when it’s in the sealing phase.I just hit cancel, re adjust the bag and start over. It’s great because the machine won’t just seal it if it’s not properly vacuumed all the air out. So it doesn’t waste any material on the roll with a defective vacuum seal.I did purchase separately, the Vacuum set of Tupperware, that wasn’t included, so I could marinate in a big batch, reuse them and not waste any of the plastic on the roll. They’re awesome!! It speeds up the marinating process so you can cut down on the normal waiting time for your stuff to be done marinating! It is a bit finicky when trying to use the hand held pump for it that’s attached to the machine. It takes some practice and getting used to especially when trying to detach it when done vacuuming. It’s nice that you have a regular setting for just vacuum and seal and the other setting made especially for marinating! It also has a setting if the meat has liquid (think raw chicken or blood from the beef) while vacuum sealing!I wish I had skipped the Nesco brand and gone straight to the FoodSaver!!It definitely keeps things fresher and it keeps the stuff if put in the freezer, from getting Freezer burnt I’m such a short amount of time! I love this thing!!I haven’t tried the Zipper bags though so I’m not sure bout them, However, if they’re anything like the stuff that comes on the rolls or the specially made Tupperware, I’m sure they’re fantastic!

I bought this for Christmas for my son, he is a hunter and also feeds his dog a raw diet. I’ve had a FoodSaver for 6 years now and decided he would benefit greatly if he had one too. He was thrilled with his FoodSaver! Now when he shops for his dog’s food he can buy larger quantities which saves him $ since now he can keep the food longer than he could with just ordinary freezer bags/containers. I am constantly bragging about the FoodSaver units. I buy the 11x16 rolls so I can make my bags as big as I want. I can honestly say (because I tested it) that meat; chicken, chop meat, venison retains its color like the day I put it in the freezer months later. The FoodSaver package was red on the outside and on the inside just like it was when I put it in the freezer. Venison retains its beautiful color, chicken has no freezer burn - I am a firm believer that FoodSaver is the only way to go especially with the cost of meat these days. You can’t afford to throw meat away because it lost its color and/or has freezer burn!

It works just like the last one. In fact it's almost the same. My wife says it's a little quieter. Being a retired meat cutter, we use our food saver daily. I can't tell you how much it saves us. There are just the two of us, so things like bacon, sausage, cheese, and lunchmeat, never go bad. Keep the oxygen out, and most all of the bacteria goes with it. This is actually the third one we've owned. The first, my brother bought me back when they were sold on T.V. Took me a few years to realize what I had, but then we have personally kept the bag business going. The second one just got tired. Like my Dad said, if it runs, it will break. It still works enough that we kept it in case of emergency. Cutting meat is not rocket science folks, buy big and save a lot. In ... MoreIt works just like the last one. In fact it's almost the same. In fact, I bet you if you ask your local meat cutter to teach you how to cut boneless cuts, he/she would. Then go in, ask him how much a whole muscle would cost, wether it's a boneless pork loin, or a whole ribeye, you will be amazed how much you will save. He can sell it that was a lot cheaper, because he has no labor, and he's guaranteed it's going to sell. Really, go buy one, and become a little more self proficient.

Approximately 3 months ago our Nesco vacuum sealer had died after only 2 months of moderate use, fortunately for us we returned it and got a full refund. Thankfully my daughter-in-law had lent us her V4440 vacuum sealer because we had to vacuum seal approx. 60lbs of beef that we had purchased along with 20+lbs of fresh garden vegetables. We were so impressed with the ease of use and performance throughout the whole vacuuming process we just purchased one for ourselves. Bottom line: The V4440 vacuum sealer is a true workhorse that functioned flawlessly and is worth every penny. We highly recommend the FoodSaver V4440 Vacuum Sealer.Sincerely,Mary P. / New Hampshire
I dont normally go out of my way to leave a review, but feel I need to about this product, and the company as a whole. I purchased the 4400 a few years ago, and loved it. The thing is a workhorse! We use it multiple times a day and during hunting season, use it to quickly bag up venison. A few weeks ago, it started failing us, it was a sort of power issue, it kept turning off mid seal, and finally, stopped turning on all together. This company stands by their product. I was amazed and impressed to see it had a 5 year warranty. I contacted them, they asked for me to send thenold one to them, and they very quickly sent me out a replacement. Even though there was an issue with my machine I'm giving them 5 stars for exceptional customer service!
This machine belongs to my mother She is going thru Stage 4 lung cancer and I'm trying to make meals and put smaller quantities in seal a meal bags for later use. I have used a food Saver before but I can not get this one to do the final seal. It's the V4400 series. I called customer service and feel like I got the run around.I could not produce the receipt as right now my Mom can 't help me find it. You would think the numbers I gave them would tell them when it was made or sold, depending on age. They did offer two local phone numbers to have a repair person come to the house. Can you imagine how much that would cost ? I spend hours today trying to find her receipts, no luck.I just want the part to fix it or a replacement. I wish this was the first Foodsaver that I purchased over the last 30 years because, I could have save a lot of money, because, I would never purchase another product from Foodsaver. IT IS THE WORST MACHINES I HAVE EVER OWNED. IT SUCKS!!! The hoses do not stay in the ports for doing mason jars. It is a pain in the you know what to insert the bags to seal them. Most of the machines do not have the ports and the hose with the green/gray ends suck. Foodsaver has gone down hill every time it changes hands. When I started, 30 years ago, (before Tilia) you made a decent machine. Not so much anymore. The only thing that I can say is; AVOID THIS MACHINE. There are other manufacturers out there, investigate them. Signed: A VERY VERY DISGRUNTLED CUSTOMER.
The V4440 is almost the same as the FoodSaver V4865 Bag Sealer, which I've had for a few years. The V4865 served me as well. The V4865 had a Pulse Vac button that was used to seal bakery and bread. The V4440 does not have this feature and I will miss it. I'm not sure if the V4440's Accessory button does what the Pulse Vac button did or if I am supposed to just use the seal, cancel or power button to stop suction when sealing bread. The only major issue I see with the V4440 is that the retractable handheld sealer with detachable clear cap still has the small nipple that goes into the mason jar sealer accessory. The little nipple is what breaks off rendering the food saver half as functional. The plastic nipple pieces on my first two FoodSavers cracked off and the units replaced because the retractable handheld sealer cap is non consumer replaceable. There are many comments on social media about the handheld sealer's weak design and I wish Newell Brands would offer the part for sale.
I just bought a new Food Saver. The other Food Saver is 10, yes, ten years old, and it still works. But, it's Christmas and we wanted an upgraded model. It sits on our counter and we use it at least once a week. We buy quality food, and especially meat. We grind our ground beef and my wife seasons it, adding onion, and bell pepper. We vacuum seal it and freeze it. We either defrost it in the microwave or reheat it in the pan to make various casseroles. I just recently thawed out a prime year that we froze after sealing it. It tasted fresh as if we just bought it. (Check out FoodSaver DAM bags.) No that's not a bad word. If you have say ground meat with a lot of liquid, it prevents the liquid from entering the device.
I have had a Food Saver sealer for many many years. I recently upgraded my sealer to the V4440 model. If you are only planning on sealing dry items this is a 5 star model. If your intentions are to seal moist and or items with any type of slight liquid to them this is a 3 star model. You MUST fill the bag and put in freezer unsealed. Once the item is frozen then remove from freezer and then seal. If you skip this important step the drip tray sensors will stop the unit from working until the sensors have time to dry out. It can take up to 24 hours before it will turn on again depending on the amount of liquid that enters the drip tray.
