I owned my first sugar lip balm several years ago, and I'd been a loyal customer ever since. I've always enjoyed how it moisturized my lips and gave it a warm pop of color so that I can skip the lipstick when in a rush. With the new formula, I believe it is better in terms of color delivery: it's more sheer, which may be a negative for some, but I like that because it sort of enhances its quality as a lip balm and not full-on lipstick, which feels lightweight on my lips and appears more natural, especially for the darker colors I purchase. However, it doesn't have that same emollient effect as before. When I apply it, immediately, it's great—moisturizing and smooth—but it makes my lips dry after 20 minutes or so, which requires constant re-application.That's a ... MoreI owned my first sugar lip balm several years ago, and I'd been a loyal customer ever since. Compared to one year or two that I savored one lip balm with the previous formula, the most recent one I bought in "plum" lasted me six to seven months. That's still very long, but not like how it used to be.Overall, it's great now for adding a sheer, natural flush of color to the lips, and for the lip balm feature itself, there are better ones. But, I'd exploit Sephora's return policy and still try it out.

I bought the Peony color, when Bloom wasn't in stock, hoping that it would be similar. Once I tried the lip balm I was shocked at how dry it was and thought maybe I had gotten an old one. I should have returned the two I purchased right then, but I thought maybe I just needed to apply a few more times and it wouldn't be so bad. However, upon ordering my favorites (Bloom and Rose, which I would always stock up on) I realized the issue was with all the balms. I USED to be the biggest fan of the Fresh Sugar lip treatments. I kept repurchasing this product in multiple colors for nearly 10 years! But, I have now returned my recent orders. Also, these no longer have SPF 15 which was one of my favorite things about the product - you got hydrating sun protection in a variety of pretty colors. That’s why I always had these in my purse, my bathroom, and my office. They were my favorite. The price for these balms hasn’t gone down, but the quality definitely has. Like many other fans (as you can see in reviews) I’m very disappointed in the changes and wish they would BRING BACK THE OLD FORMULA!

Amazing formula for all of them. I tried several colors because I didn't know which one I would like. Petal is the middle in the photo. A bit too orange/true red for me, I wanted a bit more pink in it. There's Bloom on the bottom, much more purply bright pink, and Peony, which looks very much like Bloom but is a bit more burgundy/mauvy when you put several layers on. With a sheer amount on, Bloom and Peony looked the same on me.This feels like a lip balm so it's very sheer at first, very hydrating. I kept Peony and it never made my lips dry in any way. The color does go away eventually so you need to reapply over the day, however I felt that it stayed on for a good amount of time, especially if your lips aren't too dry and the product stays on your lips rather ... MoreAmazing formula for all of them. My go-to lip balm for everyday! It feels thick (in a good way) and envelops my lips in a creamy balm. The colour is nice and more opaque than I anticipated but at the same time it might look ashy on some skin tones. I can use this on its own and on top of lipliners as a low-key lipstick. The smell and taste is a bit off putting but I don’t notice it after a while. You certainly can over apply this unlike traditional chapsticks but one swipe feels moisturising enough so there’s no reflex to put a super thick layer on. Packaging is great and metal(?) only thing is the balms are super melty so if you live in a hot climate or your house is warm I would advise against getting it. The structural integrity of the stick of product itself can be questioned, it feels fragile ... MoreMy go-to lip balm for everyday! I had heard about this going through a formula change, but always like to give a product a try myself, especially as I didn't really ever faithfully use this product. I had probably gone through two tubes of this over the past few years. Well.... unfortunately, the formula change is VERY noticeable, even to me.What's different:- The packaging is less heavy/less luxe feeling; it's immediately noticeable- This formula feels far more drying than it used to (my lips actually got more chapped, it seemed, after using this all day, and even BLED a little from the dryness!)- This isn't nearly as creamy as it once was- I have to apply significantly more product for a color payoff (whereas when I used this exact shade before, it didn't take more than one light ... MoreI had heard about this going through a formula change, but always like to give a product a try myself, especially as I didn't really ever faithfully use this product. Somehow Fresh made this product feel cheaper and overall much worse, while continuing to charge excessively for it.It's unfortunate that because of its previous hype and previous genuinely great formula, people may not realize it is not nearly what it used to be.Overall, 2 stars for the eventual color payoff of the Honey shade (it's pretty), and the same "classic smell" of this product that I love seeming to stay intact. But I feel like even 2 stars is a bit generous, due to the price tag of this.Overall, try it for yourself if you must - for me, it ended up in a "yep, everyone complaining about the new formula is absolutely correct" and a quick return. There are way better options in this category, now.
All these glowing reviews are for the OLD formula! Sorry to say those days are gone. Shame on them for riding on the good reviews of a product that doesn't exist anymore. They ought to start a new page for the reformulation disaster. This USED TO be my holy grail. I think I went through 10 tubes of the Clear and Honey. Sadly, it's awful now.I normally find people to be very dramatic about reformulations but this is the worst reformulation I've ever seen of a beloved classic (or of any cosmetic I've ever seen, tbh).-Old Formula: Buttery, soft, smooth, hydrating, shiny, and WITH SPF. A dream.-Current Formula: Dry, almost chalky, no hydration, not smooth, not moisturizing, and NO SPF.I might as well throw my multiple tubes in the trash. Like many others here I'm also a loyal, long-time user of this tinted balm. I loved the creaminess, color payoff, shine and SPF of the original product. I even stuck with it after my fave shades would get discontinued (RIP Passion!).This new formula is a total bummer-- very waxy, low pigmentation, and not moisturizing at all. Also it WILL NOT stick to my full lips, only the outermost parts that are never moistened from the inside of my mouth, if that makes sense. This is now a "tinted balm" that doesn't provide color or moisture, all yours for $24!Here's a tip for using the new formula if you're stuck with it because you missed the window for returns like I did: Rub the stick on your fingertip first to warm it up, then apply the melted balm on your finger to ... MoreLike many others here I'm also a loyal, long-time user of this tinted balm. This used to be a staple for me and at least 5 other people I know and we are all EXTREMELY disappointed with the new formulation. It's like they took out the SPF and put in an odd waxy ingredient that doesn't apply well and dries out your lips. I bought one on a trip (no Sephora where I live) and I thought it was just me since I hadn't purchased one is a year or so. I couldn't return so Ive kept using it because it is so expensive! I was with my mother who is also a fan and bought several of the originals before they switched. We shared a bag for our outing and I accidentally grabbed hers and I was FLOORED by the difference. I hope they listen to the consumers who want the original product. Definitely will not purchase again or anything within the brand.
Unfortunately the other review were right, the formula has changed, and for the worse. It’s no longer as balmy (needs more swipes each application), long lasting or moisturising. The only good change was that it’s more solid and doesn’t get as melty in this heat. However, even with the ‘deprovements’, it’s still one my favorite tinted lip balms. The pigmentation is perfect, it’s a visible tint but it doesn’t look like lipstick. It applies beautifully and wears off evenly. And the texture and longevity is also still better than most tinted lip balms out there, and I’ve tried a lot. Not sticky, waxy, thin, or oily, just a nice protective balm. It’s just a shame because the previous formula was better.
