I’m having a major issue with this jacket…it smells like a wet dog. I thought it was something around me, but then I realized the smell was following me around! It’s the jacket…when it heats up with my body warmth it seems to be igniting some kind of mildew odor in the down (hence wet dog smell). Perhaps it got wet before arriving here at some point and was never properly dried. I read some reviews and apparently I’m not the only one as I’ve read many reviews stating the same issue. I’m afraid to wash it as I’ve also read many reviews stating that the jackets fall apart very easily. Wrote to Cotopaxi and no response so far. This should not be a common issue.So, I would either like a full refund or a replacement that doesn’t have any wet dog odor.Thanks,Charles Porter

I honestly purchased this on a lark - I wanted a colourful down hooded jacket for a winter and this happened to be on sale. After about a month of constant usage, I can safely say it's exceeded expectations.It's very light, packable, distinctive and is the kind of hoodie that wouldn't look out of place on a hiking trail, on a dinner date, at the opera, at a game, or whilst shopping at Oxford Street or Mayfair!I've worn only a tee shirt and this jacket and stepped out at -2/-3C and it's been just fine. Obviously cool style, and this seems like a sturdy jacket that is also comfortable to wear. A cheap zipper can make a jacket useless, but this Zipper is strong and good quality. Hood provides good coverage for my large head. Jacket doesn’t have as much fill as my Columbia coat, and I do outdoor winter activities like snowshoeing and some ice climbing, so I’m a little nervous it won’t provide deep protection - but so far it seems warm. I’m not thin, and there’s still probably room for a fleece mid layer if needed. Minimalist design without a lot of “features” but a good lightweight companion for outdoor recreation. I’m 5’10” 205lbs, normally wear a large and this is true to size.
My husband has been wanting this jacket for years and was extremely excited to finally get one this year. He is 5’6”, 140 lbs, and the small fits him like a glove. We had a hard time selecting the colors since they were all really awesome, but decided to go with the forest green which was a great choice. It’s very warm also. My only complaint is the “gear for good” text on the back. He got the jacket because he loved the color way and he’s very particular about things being stylish and well fitting. The slogan on the back kind of takes the “cool” out of it. I am aware it’s Cotopaxi’s slogan but let the clothing speak for itself, especially if people are choosing it for fashion. When you start to virtue signal directly on the clothing it’s just sort of dorky.

The first is that one jacket loses quite a bit of down by seeping through the fabric, but the other doesn't have this issue. This along with other reviews here tells me it's a quality control issue. The second is that I have had to wash one of the jackets twice due to spilling drinks on it, I was careful to read the directions and washed it according to the directions (dry with tennis balls to restore fluff). The first time I washed it I didn't have tennis balls so I used my wool dryer balls, worked great and came out like new. I have owned similar down jackets like The North Face's Thermoball jacket ($200) and this one is just significantly better quality than anything I've owned, just totally worth the $75 dollar price difference. The fit is better, the quality of the stitching looks nicer, and the material feels nicer. Down jackets overall are usually fragile, but this one felt nice enough to not have to worry about. It's not a deal breaker, but because its so unnerving to use, I just avoid using it when I can.
Bought this on sale from REI. I love almost everything about this jacket. Great design, color options, features, packability, and fit and finish. The jacket is very warm and has a nice down fill power. I am comfortable into the teens wearing with just one layer underneath, but I also run warm. The only complaint that I have is that I have had it for about a week and it continues to shed it’s down. The overall craftsmanship and fit and finish are fine. I have not seen any loose seams or stitching, etc., but the down is escaping through the seams somehow. It’s only a few small feathers every day, but at this rate I’m going to end up with a nylon shell soon.
Got this jacket because I needed a puffy jacket and I really liked the colorful retro style of the jacket. The zippers close and open very smoothly and the jacket is very warm. Packs down very easily and fits very well. However, the workmanship of the jacket has been disappointing so far. I've only worn the jacket a few times and the down is already starting to poke out, and the treading in many areas is starting to become undone. After my last backpacking trip after unpacking the jacket I noticed a small tear near one of the hand pockets. I have no idea how this happened since I only wear this jacket when I get to camp and pack it away in my backpack when I leave. Hopefully there won't be anymore issues, but have been disappointed so far with the quality of the jacket.
