The pancake-style lens from Fujifilm is perfect for landscape and street photography. The images are sharp edge-to-edge and autofocus is a breeze. The lens also comes with a cloth pouch for storage that keeps it away from dust and provides a cushion in a typical photo bag.Highly recommended as a beginner lens for someone new to medium format photography.

If you have invested in the GFX system, I highly recommend adding this lens to your lineup. Amazing value compared to the GFX Glen's lineup for compact lens. Crystal sharp beautiful color perfect focal length can't beat it.

For use as a walk around, general purpose lens, this is an excellent choice. Many reviewers comment that they wish it had a faster aperture but this would defeat the purpose of having a small relatively light and inexpensive lens. Sharpness is very good and some decent bokeh can be achieved with subjects close to the camera. I do wish it focused closer though. I thought about buying an extension tube but at least at the current time these are priced too high for what they are. When offered at a discount this lens is well worth the money and is an especially good fit with the GFX 50R.

The Nifty Fifty for medium format. (Nifty Forty?) If one lens could make the GFX system feel more portable, this is it. Sharp images with great contrast and color. I take a walk every day over my lunch break and this lens on the 50sII is usually slung over my shoulder. Works well with an extension tube for close up work too.Pocketable? No way. But the 50mm makes my GFX an option for general photography when I want to use something other than my X-Pro
I've been using this lens for the last 6 months on a GFX 50R, and it went with me on a 2 week trip to Japan...To contextualize my review, my other camera is a X100F, which I will gladly shoot at f/2 and ISO 12,800 because I know it will make a sharp looking A3+ print, despite the internet bemoaning how the lens is soft and APS-C is bad at higher sensitivities. If you print your work, you'll realize how much you've been over-analyzing your digital images while trying to financially quantify whether your camera equipment is overpriced... ahem...This lens is sharp from f/3.5 to f/16, auto-focuses fairly quickly, and is a great match for the GFX 50R as a portable kit. I have images that I can't wait to print at 30 x 40 inches, while others will certainly be cropped ... MoreI've been using this lens for the last 6 months on a GFX 50R, and it went with me on a 2 week trip to Japan...To contextualize my review, my other camera is a X100F, which I will gladly shoot at f/2 and ISO 12,800 because I know it will make a sharp looking A3+ print, despite the internet bemoaning how the lens is soft and APS-C is bad at higher sensitivities. I have images that I can't wait to print at 30 x 40 inches, while others will certainly be cropped into panoramas or squares because I have the resolution to spare. All of my smaller test prints look flawless...If you really go nuts with pushing your raw files and you magnify your images on your monitor too much, you will notice there's some chromatic aberration and distortion being corrected in the lens profile, but this isn't unusual or much of a bother -- I've seen worse on Hasselblad and Pentax digital medium format lenses that cost more, and this issue doesn't show up in print unless you go really big or do a lot of tight cropping. If I were allowed one complaint, I just wish this lens had a closer minimum focusing distance...Needless to say, I love this lens. Getting into medium format generally brings along more expensive, well, everything, so given this is priced at the lower end of the financial spectrum, I really can't recommend it enough.
My background is 35mm cameras including Pentax and Leica. When I moved to digital I only enjoyed photography again when I moved to Fujifilm where I've enjoyed the x100 range, xpro2 and 3, xe1 and 3 and xt2 and 3. But I've let everything go in exchange for a gfx 50r and this wonderful 50mm f3.5 lens (and an 80mm f1.7). This 50mm mounted on the 50r is my updated everyday camera. The quality is just incredible and this lens on the 50r is light, durable and fast to autofocus. This body and lens is bigger than my xpro3 and 35mm f1.4 was but not by that much. I have big hands and find this setup the easiest and best combination I have ever used. I carry this set up together with a short extension tube in an Ona bond st bag. No one guesses what I'm carrying and I can ... MoreMy background is 35mm cameras including Pentax and Leica. Moving to this set up is the best photographic decision I've ever made - it's just about photography now.
Sharp and quality lens. Light and compact and a great alternative to the 35mm, but without the typical wide-angle distortion. It's crazy fast and accurate at auto focusing.Strongly recommend it.
Really must be most usable lens for the GFX system owing to the size, image quality and price. I was sceptical at first, but the images speak for themselves. The focus is not that fast and accurate, but it is much rather a problem of the body. All-in-all brings a pure joy of making photos!
My 2nd lens just after the GF110mm, after about 3 months of using the mid telephoto on the GFX100, what I like about the 50mm it is definitely the wider view. And I realise that the AF is really fast given that it has short focal length for the linear motor to easily glide at the touch of the AF-on. It’s lighter and fits differently in the bag compared to the 110mm. Pretty interesting macro shots when coupled with the MCEX18G tube. Shooting on the go got a lot easier with this lens and I find it perfect to catch moments with family and kids running around. Perfect for portraits if you want that extra room around subject while still being close when you don’t have much room. Feels weird at first due to the lens being short to grab. Got used to it and enjoyed manual ... MoreMy 2nd lens just after the GF110mm, after about 3 months of using the mid telephoto on the GFX100, what I like about the 50mm it is definitely the wider view. I'm back here after leaving a review when this first came out saying how overpriced this lens was. (see above!) Some people down-voted that, but... I was right, and it's now 50% off and just $499 not $999 !! That is the price it should have been from the go.What do we conclude from this1) Fuji have a very high 'early-adopter' premium.2) The GFX-100 will have a rebate soon - likely $2000 or more. Wait if you can.The lens is good, small, and pretty sharp in center. It is not *great* though, in fact almost none of them are. If you are coming from Full Frame, you will be so impressed with 100mp MF digital you may not realise it, but non center performance remains weak on all mid focal length Fuji MF lenses. They were ok for 50mp, but not 100mp. Fuji need to up ... MoreI'm back here after leaving a review when this first came out saying how overpriced this lens was. (see above!)
