First of all, I bought XT-5 along with Sigma 18-50 recently after being a long time Canon full frame shooter. I really like to see how the Fuji lens perform. I picked this one after seeing YT and other sources. Now after two weeks, I have to say I love the build quality and outcomes, the F1.4 gives the best sharp/blur contract I ever had, closeness to the objects is big for me, the ring to switch the auto/manual and much more. The images is perfect both in sharpness and colors. Now I am happy that I have a much lighter gear to carry with to ever vacation.

This is really an excellent lens. I love the focus system ring. Focus is fast when in auto mode and when in manual there is no infinite ring in the focus operation, which is great. Besides, focus scale marks shows up when you pul the ring to manual focus. What a great design!Image render, contrast, micro contrast, sharpness, saturation and blur - when in a shallow death of field - are perfect. At 1.4 aperture there's a sutil vignette, which is expected, but almost not noticeable. After 4.0 aperture lens is sharp from corner to corner.Focus can be set up at very close distance, 15cm (see the cake picture attached, ISO 1600, f/1.4, 1/80). It's not macro 1:1 lens but that's very useful feature. At the mirror picture attached (ISO 1600, f/1.4, 1/100), you can ... MoreThis is really an excellent lens. I love the focus system ring. So, keep tuned to purchase lenses at a very good price. Don't forget to look for the bundles also.

My first impression was that this lens is smaller and lighter than I expected, which is great. It certainly is fast. It's a challenge shooting with it during the day wide open without an ND filter. I live out in a rural area and this lens is begging for some street photography, but I the wide-angle distortion worked great on a couple of horses. Oh, and it's brilliant for starry night pics, being 2 stops faster than your average f/2.8. Overall it's incredibly sharp, although the distortion is really noticeable in the corners. I can't wait to take it out on the street on my next trip to the big city. Only one niggle, really: manual focusing is touchy as you're not actually moving the lens with the ring, you're just actuating a motor that moves in discrete steps, and ... MoreMy first impression was that this lens is smaller and lighter than I expected, which is great. Thank you Lensrental! You have made the process easy and the lens was perfect. While this lens is on the bigger side for a prime, and it’s Fuji’s earlier design, all my images came out sharp and provided plenty of subject isolation at the lower apertures. I’m planning on making this lens part of my kit some day.
The lens produces nice images. The manual focus is really poor, loose and easily knocked out of position with the slightest touch. The depth of field scale is next to useless, and the clunky fly by wire focusing is so slow and cheap. The aperture ring is soft and loose and easily moved from the "A" position, it is no good for street photography as you can't set your focus and depth of field and leave it, just putting over shoulder will move the focus ring or aperture. The autofocus is below average for a lens of this price, slow and clunky. Landscape would be ok if you have the time to wait for it to settle.I feel the lens is overpriced for what it can provide, which is an average quality wide angle lens with limited functionality. This lens was quick to reveal what is special about it during and after taking photos.During stay at home I took these close-up images on my X-H1 and the close focus distance from the subject is amazing. This lens seems like it had me thinking about composition differently... like being steered in different directions than I was originally thinking. It does have its own character and magic compared to my more versatile zoom lenses. In the photo of the pewter astronaut figure (5 inches tall) ... the detail at f11 is very impressive.I am really looking forward to trying other genres of photography with this lens.On another note ... the relatively loud auto focus motor can be felt and heard. It hunts to auto-focus on my X-H1 and I find it a bit annoying yet ... MoreThis lens was quick to reveal what is special about it during and after taking photos.During stay at home I took these close-up images on my X-H1 and the close focus distance from the subject is amazing. It hunts to auto-focus on my X-H1 and I find it a bit annoying yet impressive for its incredible precision at the same time.I will gladly accept the auto-focus motor as a characteristic of this lens considering the great image results. For video ... an on camera mic would possibly pick-up the sound of the auto-focus motor in a quiet environment.Other than that ... to me, this lens feels like driving a fine performance automobile.I would have given it a 5, but I would prefer a silent auto-focus motor.Fujifilm 16mm 1.4 ... my new prized lens.
I bought the XF 16mm f/1.4 primarily for low-light events and nature photography in harsh conditions, and the lens excels for both of these uses. As online reviews indicate it is acceptably sharp and contrasty across most of the frame right from f1.4, and by f4-f5.6 the corners catch up and it is very sharp to extremely sharp across the entire frame. The lens can also focus very closely for a wide angle, allowing for unique 1:4 close-up images and environmental portraits with nicely blurred backgrounds. The build quality is exceptional, and it feels wonderful in the hand. It balances very well on the X-T2 even without the battery grip, being close in weight to the XF 18-55 (and just over 1/2 the weight of the XF 16-55). The included hood works well and is not too bulky. The retractable focus ring (clutch) is unusual, but I like that the focus ring doesn't turn in AF mode giving me a surer grip on the lens. The only weakness I've found is a fairly significant level of field curvature below f4 that can result in soft corners but sharp edges in the foreground when focusing 10-15 feet into the scene (for example, shooting a crowd scene at f2.8), but this isn't too objectionable and is resolved by focusing closer or reducing aperture to f4. I also find that subjects too close to the edges of the frame appear rather distorted or stretched, despite this being an optically corrected lens with minimal software correction, presumably due to the native ultra-wide-angle coverage that is cropped to the APS-C frame. Considering the high price of the lens I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, but on balance it's a great addition to the Fuji XF lineup.
APSC systems generally lack high-quality, durable lenses designed to produce best-quality results. Chalk it up to the consumer base: most photographers who demand such refined and expensive tools tend to skip APSC and go for full frame or medium format systems. However, with lenses like this 16mm f1.4, Fuji proves that the X system is indeed designed for photographers who demand excellent image quality. This lens simply has everything. Fast aperture, fast focus (relative to the amount of glass inside it), weather sealing, and of course top-notch image quality. The only downside is the large size, which means you wont want this bring this lens if you must keep your camera in your pocket all day.I am a veteran of Canon (5D, 5D II), Nikon (D810, D750), and numerous pro film systems (Nikon, Mamiya 645, Horseman and Wista 4x5). I have use many outstanding lenses across those systems, including the Nikkor 24mm f1.4. For web results and prints that dont require 36+ MP resolution, I prefer this lens. It delivers everything except high chromatic aberration suppression in certain conditions, which can be easily corrected in post. For the money, this lens is a big part of what makes the X system a great buy compared to other dedicated APSC systems. It is incomparable. If youve invested in an X system body, do yourself a favor and try this lens.
i got this for use mostly on my X-Pro2, but i also use it on an X-T1. i debated purchasing because i have a Rokinon 12mm F2.0, plus 24mm (full frame) is a bit wider than my standard of 35mm (which i don't have for my Fujifilm), but it was on sale and i got it for $ with an additional coupon. i compare this to a Canon 16-35mm F2.8 on a 5D Mark III. it compares well! this lens is incredibly well built, super solid and weather sealed (and no problems in a hail storm at the summit of Mt. Etna, so the weather sealing works), all metal parts, very nice focusing ring (i prefer manual and like the feel, but autofocus is quite fast on the X-Pro2) and i have been using the included, plastic hood. i am not a pixel peeper so can't comment there, but have been very happy with ... Morei got this for use mostly on my X-Pro2, but i also use it on an X-T1. i debated purchasing because i have a Rokinon 12mm F2.0, plus 24mm (full frame) is a bit wider than my standard of 35mm (which i don't have for my Fujifilm), but it was on sale and i got it for $ with an additional coupon. i compare this to a Canon 16-35mm F2.8 on a 5D Mark III. it compares well! this lens is incredibly well built, super solid and weather sealed (and no problems in a hail storm at the summit of Mt.
