I ordered the GPS and delivery tracking changed twice while waiting for order. It was also a week late and it took over 2 weeks to arrive. When we opened the package, the GPS was NOT in the original packaging (item was supposed to be new!). Tried to update it and set it up, only to figure out it doesnt connect to anything and is obviously used! To return, since this is a 3rd party and not Walmart, i cannot return to the store since the original packaging is missing and I have to ship back and wait for my almost $200 refund! I needed this item for an upcoming trip and now have to fork out more money to purchase a new, working one and wait for the refund from this! Having had a few cheaper Sat Navs in the past, this Garmin is a relief - well made, neat and intuitive it is a good machine. We have yet to be convinced by or properly use the Voice Command function, but it is an option. Traffic has been a problem for us - this Sat Nav can link with your mobile or use a charging cable to get live traffic information: so far it has not been necessary but it is good insurance. The only slight issue is that Garmin should probably fit a metal plate onto the machine themselves - a magnetic holder keeps the unit away from the windscreen.

Bought this as an upgrade to our well used and reliable Nuvi Satnav previously purchased about 6 years ago. The only issue with the previous Nuvi was updating the maps, which was difficult and costly, but the SmartDrive couldn't be simpler - especially with Wi-Fi capability. Unlike other brands we find Garmins very simple to negotiate and the functionalities around finding local resteraunts, shops, venues etc are fantastic, as are the options to customise. We have had other satnavs including tomtom's and various other iterations included 'in car' systems, but none have measured up in ease of usability. This one will be safely negotiating our journeys around Europe while the car satnav remains unused behind the music display!!

Garmin DriveSmart 51 LMT-D is very good and reliable. Battery time is specified up to 1 hour, which not long, however for its intended purpose the battery proves sufficient. Slim design. Includes TripAdvisor and FourSquare ratings and map updates via Wi-Fi.
Overall I like this unit. The screen is large enough to see without being too big. The roads and information on the display are clear and readable for me. The directions seem to be pretty good except as noted below. The initial updating of the software can take a little time but is acceptable for the first time. The calculated arrival time for this unit is much better than my last Garmin unit.With the above said, there are some problems.The biggest is that the box says traffic alerts are part of the package - this is only partially true. You need to have a Bluetooth enabled smartphone or a special power cord for receiving the traffic signals. This cord is not included. The package description is not clear and this cord is about $65. This is a little distracting.I am using the latest map and there appears to be too many businesses missing or with incorrect addresses. These are business where the address has not changed in several years so the map should have the updated addresses by now.Also there are too many roads that the GPS has me take that are physically labeled 'No Thru Traffic' or similar. Again, these maps should not take me on these roads.There are too many roads where the GPS does not have speed limit information.Finally the flat friction mount is basically worthless. It needs a flat surface and none of the recent cars I have been in have any flat surfaces, they are all somewhat rounded where the flat friction mount won't work.
I like the connection to traffic through the power cable antenna, which is a simple and inexpensive accessory. Unsure about the flat screen finish, which does not seem an improvement on the classic style of the Garmin 80. Advantage of connection with optional camera accessory. In the initial, I was put off by the Demo mode which caused all of my preference settings to be reset. Also the battery output was very poor on the first three or four charges. Both problems were rectifiable. It is also not easy to find the way around saving or deleting places history or favourites. Overall, this device seems superior to other manufactures I have looked at.
Map coordination slow, I turned at intersection before voice announcement. Some map drawings of some roads thin and difficult to identify especially in night mode. Does not alert me of incorrect turns ? Driver Awareness Alerts at 100% not loud enough and is not displayed long enough with bright colors. Alerts of .1 or .2 miles ahead should be in feet not tenths ? Voice command came on and asked for a command ? My Old was better. I do like the touch screen and instant on. BJ's Stinks
