The OLED screen is a vast improvement over my old LCD model, bright and clear, and the touch screen is fast and responsive and easy to navigate. There are hundreds of new streets around where I live, and the update covered most of them. The spoken prompts are loud and clear, although I didn't think much of the default "female Australian" voice "Karen." She sounds a right scrubber. The Australian Male voice is less irritating. There are other, more pleasant, voices, but they don't speak the street names.Overall, I liked it so much I went and bought a second one for my wife, to replace her clapped-out Tom-tom unit.

Garmin Drive 52 should fully meet my requirements
16 December 2022

Easy to program HOME, easy to enter destinations. Pleasant robot voice. It uses street names infrequently, rather says directions and landmarks, such as " turn left at the next light, across from Walgreens". I was on Street X and destination required a u-turn on Street X; instead of saying U-turn, it said "turn left onto Street X at the next intersection". I need to better understand the relationship between the charging and programming functions. Is it possible that one can't program while it's charging via the USB cord from the desktop? So far I've only used it unplugged; it takes a couple minutes to acquire satellite signal, and then never loses it. I'm glad I didn't spend more to get a larger display because I realize the audio is more important than the visual.

Good little navigation unit.
4 February 2023

Good little GPS navigation unit, much faster and quicker to calculate a route than my old Garmin Nuvi 255w. It is especially noticeably faster when recalculating a route because in a blink it has computed a new course when a wrong turn is made (or a missed turn is passed) that the screen updates almost instantly with the new route, no more spoken "Recalculating...".It has both a standby and off, which from the outside looks the same, but standby skips the reboot and, unfortunately, drains the battery, and it is hard from the outside to tell if the unit is off or just in standby. In addition to "off" not being "off", the other negative is if I want the next three turns after the up-coming turn to be displayed, it won't remember that and has to be reset after each ... MoreGood little GPS navigation unit, much faster and quicker to calculate a route than my old Garmin Nuvi 255w. Knowing the next couple of turns is useful because sometimes it has me make a turn and then within a short block another turn and if I am in the wrong lane and there is traffic there isn't enough time to get into the correct lane. Both the battery drain in "standby" and not remembering that I want the following 3 turns displayed is why I didn't rate it the full five stars. (I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.)

Good price with basic operations
28 June 2022

Likes:*Simple to use*Screen is just the right size (5.2")*Expansion slot with Micro-SD (not included)*Garmin basic FAQs/Support on the website comes with both words and videos. There are step by step instructions as well.Don't Like:*Basic model. Gives you directions, and some other stuff and that's it.*Basic voices. There's no option to purchase additional voices.*Mini-USB connection (older standard, and got in the way of the GPS/mobile device holder.) Also you had to position the GPS on it's screen to have the connection plugged in. Other brands/models usually have the connection on the bottom edge. For what I needed, it was sufficient. I needed a back-up as the route I take, sometimes, my phone's GPS doesn't have any 4G/5G.

Modest upgrade form a 10 yo Nuvi
9 August 2022

Got this to replace 10 yo Nuvi that quit reading the sd card. This unit is a modest upgrade. it repsonds quicker, has louder volume and uses a mini usb port for both the 12v car adapter and the usb cable. The plastic screen cover says it's ready to use but mine needed about an hour of charging before it woke up, then ask to be updated via Garmin express. You'll need either Windows or a Mac and an internet connection. Charging and the update took a few hours so don't plan to use it immediately. It won't accept pre planned routes via tracks created in Ride With gps or in Basecamp but will take waypoints that show in the "saved" section. It's a bit later in announcing turns than Google. The preview map makes up for that. Just getting the updated maps was worth the ... MoreGot this to replace 10 yo Nuvi that quit reading the sd card. I bought the Garmin Drive 52 for my cruzin 'round town and quick trips away from home navigation instrument and found it to be alright. I also have the drive smart for my other car and both is the same except the drive smart got little bit more comm's features. I'm very happy of its capabilities and relatively eaze in trying to figure it out. The only concern I have is when you cross state lines and trying to find a place in another state, but it can't help because the GPS still reflect the original location as your home state. Took me awhile to figure it out. I am 66 and not that good of a tech wizard. Garmin should have figured it out that younger generations use their cell phones for navigation. Poor battery, slow, "clunky", make you scream
15 March 2022

Battery life is extremely poor so if you intend to use it without being plugged in make sure it does not take too long. My car is in a parking garage and I get no signal which makes it is more convenient to set the route in my apartment so I don't have to pull my car out and sit on the street while punching in the address. Mine went from almost fully charged to almost out of power (in the red area) in less than 10 minutes. That wouldn't be a problem, but they only give you an 18 to 24 inch cord to use outside of the car so you need to be really close to an outlet if you want to plug it in during use. Also, it is the old mini USB cable that has not been used by most companies for a long time so the chance of having a longer cord laying around is very slim. This unit ... MoreBattery life is extremely poor so if you intend to use it without being plugged in make sure it does not take too long. Also, it is the old mini USB cable that has not been used by most companies for a long time so the chance of having a longer cord laying around is very slim. This unit is far slower and way more "clunky" than any cell phone map/GPS app available today. The calculating route action seems to take forever and be prepared to scream if you try to edit a route because even the slightest tap of your finger while moving the screen will set a new "point" on the map causing the route to change to something completely different. Hoping to find a faster way to enter and then edit a route I tried using the Garmin Basecamp app on my laptop. The app couldn't even find an address that the GSP itself was able to locate and guide me to - completely useless.I only purchased this GPS because I recently had an issue where my cell phone refused to connect to a network for over 40 miles while I was in an unfamiliar area. I decided it would be a good idea to have a back up in the car just in case that happens again. I have not owned a Garmin GPS for over 10 years and it is scary that they have not really progressed much in that time.

Similar to 2013 model with added gizmo's

Bought this 3 weeks ago to replace a near 10 year old model which had lost it's screen functions! I wanted a fairly basic one to get me from A-B and this just about suited.Directions are similar to the old one along with its idiosyncrasy that it doesn't seem to realise that single track country roads are not travelled along at 60mph. This i've learned to ignore and stick to the main road but still, why is it not programmed that a narrow road is an average of 20mph!! This would be more realistic. However, i've not kept it because the battery seemed to be faulty, in that after a full charge of around 1.5 hours in the car it showed "Low Battery" the following morning and only lasted around 1 or 2 mins before switching off. Not an issue if you're plugged in to the car, but a complete pain if still in the house and want to set the thing up before going to the car; oddly, Halfords staff think this is a 'feature' and is due to the technology contained within draining the battery. I know modern tech is a bit silly at times but cannot believe any manufacturer would put in such an inadequate battery.I would still recommend this IF, it had a decent battery installed!
