I purchased the Garmin ECHOMAP UHD2 53 CV to replace my older Garmin that was purchases in 1996. I chose Garmin for its dependability and the ECHOMAP UHD2 has built in GPS maps for over 17,000 lakes. The GPS maps on my lake included boat runs with the marker bouys. The creeks were labeled, so I knew not only where the underwatercreeks were but their names also. Everything was included in the box and installation was very detailed in the instructions. The Clear Vu mode is exceptional you can see the bottom in great detail. With the split screens, I can see the GPS, sonar, and Clear Vu all at the same time. I highly recommend this product and is a must for a great experience on lakes I have not been on before.

Actual purchase was the -55CV (smaller screen but otherwise very similar). More intuitive than other makes, easy to customise, quick satellite capture. Navionics subscription included but no information supplied about renewing it. Garmin promote their "Active Captain" app which adds no value to the product but complicates some actions.
Very disappointed with this GPS/sounder graphically is doesn't come anywhere close to my old Garmin GPS sounder and the maps are just as useless buy a Lowrance or Simrad don't waste your money on Garmin anymore.
Great starter bundle, lightweight unit, simple enough for a caveman to use, but get a backup battery, ideally get a Lithium-type. AmpedOutdoors is what I went with as an upgrade. Lithium lasts longer in the cold and is more reliable. Worth it as an investment of $50 or sixty bucks to go for a 15 hour lithium-type to upgrade this particular unit requires a bit more aH than the little Garmin Striker4 series.Pros: Lightweight bundle, Simple ease of use, split screen, maps, updates, 32GB SDcard, reliable with a lithium battery 7.5aH or 15 hours.CONs: The original charger is slow, then ceases to work, and the Lead Acid battery 7aH that it comes with only powers unit for a short time before cold kills.Overall takeaway: Get a Lithium battery.
Great multi-function sounder at a good price-point: perfect for smaller boats or tinnies looking for that little bit extra to help find your way & find your catch!
Lovely little unit. Very easy to learn to use, images are clear and sharp and the maps are good. I'm 73 years old and my eyesight isn't as sharp as it once was and a larger screen (say, 7" or 9") would be easier to see but I had to go with the 5" because of the rake of my windscreen - no room for a larger unit.
First let me say that I have been a Garmin fan ever since I bought my first one ( a handheld 45) in the 90s. I still have it and keep it in my ditch bag. One of the things I and many other Garmin users like about the units is that from generation to generation the user interface has remained fairly consistent keeping the learning curve to a minimum. The operation of this unit is different than the 2 previous models I've owned and not as intuitive, in my opinion. The second issue I have relates to the fact that the 2 cables that plug in do not have threaded nuts to hold them securely in place. You just push the plugs in and hope they stay put. In the instructions Garmin mentions that if the unit is intermittent you should push the plug back in. It seems like they've ... I bought this unit at a bargain price. It was easily installed. Very easy to use and all the features worked as it says it should. Really enjoyed using the speed indicator on it for trolling purposes.
