I just upgraded to the Garmin Epix Pro from a Coros Apex 2. I have a very small wrist, so I had to go with the 42mm. I do however appreciate the red light setting, as well as the flashlight- features you won't find on a Coros.So what's NOT great? I would say the HR and O2 sat sensors. I have an actual oxygen saturation probe (no, I didn't buy it for fun, it was for monitoring my sats during the height of Covid as I'm an ICU nurse), and the watch measures my O2 sat ~ 5 points lower than my probe, and my HR is also usually off by up to 10 bpm. This is not a big deal for me, I only mention it because this watch IS so expensive, and I would have expected more accurate readings.All in all I am very pleased with this purchase, and am excited to use more features as I explore all that this watch can do. If I already had a Garmin I'm not sure I would have upgraded due to its high cost, but coming from a Coros to this is like upgrading from Coach to First Class.

I upgraded from a garmin 935 and found the new features and accuracy to be a huge improvement. I also own a Samsung galaxy 5 pro. I wanted something very durable (sapphire and titanium), new metrics, reliable metrics, better battery, amoled display, etc. A big selling feature for me on this watch was also the new heart rate sensor. On all prior watches ive owned the optical sensor has been unreliable having random heart rate spikes during mild to no activity. I love the watch, especially the flashlight. It's incredibly convenient to have a flashlight on your wrist any time you need it. The UI is OK, but seems a little antiquated (due for a update). I came from exclusively using Samsung watches and they integrate better with Android devices; especially Samsung phones. I'm disappointed that the notification are very limited. So for example, if the watch doesn't recognize an app, you'll receive the notification as a text message, rather than a, notification with you app's icon. Why does this matter? Well, if you're looking at your missed notifications, everything looks like an unread text message, rather a notification from the app. Some apps register normally, like Facebook but YouTube notifications show up as text ...Ā MoreI love the watch, especially the flashlight. My banking app sends a notification after a charge has been made, but the notification doesn't show up on my watch (just a blank text message). There's no microphone on the watch, so you cannot answer calls on the watch or do voice-to-to-text to respond to messages. In fact, you cannot create custom replies at all, unless done through the phone. So, for the most part, you'll need to pull your phone out to reply to text messages... Which kind of defeats the purpose of having a smart watch. I understand for some people this may not matter, but imo, it's missing important features that are offered by watch less than half the price...Quick note, like all smart watches, if you have tattoos, be aware that the sensors don't work well with them (or sometimes at all). I've found a workaround, so the heart rate sensor still can do its job but the SP02 sensor doesn't work, and I don't trust the HRV results.TDLR;Pros - Flashlight, GPS (tried it on a trail, down in a canyon (without cell service) and it worked flawlessly). Well made, battery life is awesome and I was really impressed with all the data it collected during my hike. The red shift is a very underrated feature.Cons - Notifications suck (kinda). UI needs work and can be complicated to navigate (especially the settings). No microphone, no custom text message replies (unless preset in advance) or calls..or music (unless you use ear buds). The map is works, but again, update the icons; it's 2023, not 1998. Wrist band is subpar. Very few watch faces available to download and very limited apps available. They should focus on better integration and communication between their OS and the device's OS. And, if nothing else, plz add a timestamp to the notifications.I don't know that I'd consider it a smart watch, but it will get you back home; even if it's dark outside.

Now you can get all this data on your wrist. And from all the data, the watch tells you your stress scores, daily health score, fitness levels (aerobic, anaerobic, and endurance), and whether you are getting enough rest. Throughout the day, you can monitor your "body battery" levels. Plus, with its 32gig flash drive, it has maps of every road and trail IN THE WORLD built in. Wow. The watch is helping me with a lot of lifestyle choices. They're usually things I already knew (like get better sleep, don't eat apple pie and ice cream before bed, overtraining), but now that they're quantified, it's more real. Today is truly the age of data. I was so amazed with the Garmin Epix that I picked up one for my son, and we've been exchanging notes on all the data. And it was amazing to see how fast he set it up (I needed to watch all the YouTube how-to videos). It just blows my mind that, despite all its features, this watch will be the least sophisticated wearable I'll ever see. Who knows, in ten years maybe it will even be able to do my workouts for me. The future is looking good, real good.

Was torn between the epix pro 2 and fenix 7 solar sapphire. Coming from an Apple Watch I decided the Epix would be a good transition.I absolutely love it. If I was going to do longer events like an ultramarathon or multi day hiking Iād have chosen the fenix 7 for the longer battery. For my every day uses I have my setting so Iām still getting to enjoy a much longer battery life than my apple, better tracking and information so I am happy. The other big decision was size and I went with the 47mm but I have female friends with the 42 and the 51 and honestly it wasnāt that big of a difference when we lined our arms up. Itās more comfortable than the ...Ā MoreWas torn between the epix pro 2 and fenix 7 solar sapphire. Coming from an Apple Watch I decided the Epix would be a good transition.I absolutely love it. If I was going to do longer events like an ultramarathon or multi day hiking Iād have chosen the fenix 7 for the longer battery. For my every day uses I have my setting so Iām still getting to enjoy a much longer battery life than my apple, better tracking and information so I am happy. The other big decision was size and I went with the 47mm but I have female friends with the 42 and the 51 and honestly it wasnāt that big of a difference when we lined our arms up. I donāt miss not having the cellular which reminds me I can cancel that plan :) I was concerned about mapping but none of these would really be your sole source for mapping if you were doing something serious. It can be a quick check where you are on the trail but if I needed actual navigation Iād probably use paper map/compass, downloaded maps on avenza, or a handheld device.
I purchased the Garmin Approach S70. For golf, I love it. It also has alot of other features for general health/fitness. But at $650, I wanted a more premium watch with much more data. I returned the S70 and purchased the Epix Gen2 51mm model. But then I ended up returning the Epix Gen2 watch too (for now). Here's my two cents: I know companies will run their own companies they way they want. I get that. But a $1,100 watch should really have all of the top-of-line, premium features and apps and options as their lesser expensive watch(s)....especially when those watches are produced and released within a few months of each other. I may have to wait until Fall 2023 timeframe, but I will keep checking. I'm looking to buy just one premium, top-of-the-line watch at $1,000. I'm not buying two watches (Approach S70 at $650 and then another Apple Ultra at $800). I agree with others that the new Garmin Approach S70 is truly the best golf GPS watch out there right now. It's fantastic. But at $650, I'm not spending this much on a watch just to use on the golf course and then swapping to an Epix or Apple Ultra for my day-to-day "go to" watch. I'm not that wealthy nor that dumb. At $1,000 - $1,200 price range, Garmin should include the very best of everything into one premium, flagship watch.....it's the same complaint and problems that the Marquee watch owners are screaming about. The latest Garmin Epix update in July (or early August) did not include bringing the golf app/program up-to-speed with matching the quality of the Approach S70. That's ridiculous....hopefully future updates in the next few months will fix this.

My battery life- I wear it all the time, day and night- is going to be 7 days, which is plenty. The Epix display is just so much nicer- I have it on red shift during sleep, so when I wake up to check the time, I don't get "blue light" like you get with the Fenix backlight- has already given me more "deep sleep" moments. Worth the small sacrifice in battery charge length. The watch is absolutely superb. I also have an apple, which I keep only because it has the phone built in ($10 a month connection fee), and is a good backup while travelling or great for walks when I don't want to carry a phone. Yes, the apple is a "better" smartwatch- but I have no need for the apps, and the Garmin does all the smartwatch things I want from a watch. I totally recommend it, and totally recommend PlayBetter as the place to buy it. I looked around- and the price and customer service at PlayBetter was first rate.
