I've been excited for this watch to come out as I wanted to upgrade from my Epix 2 with a bigger screen, not to mention any other goodies Garmin has cooked up. I love the size, screen, and UI of this watch but it has some major flaws, to the point that I'm thinking about returning it.1. The watch faces. There are only a few stock options and none are very appealing. The bigger problem with them though is the data field fonts are VERY small and hard to read even with full back lighting and there is no way to adjust the size. They are much smaller than what is shown in Garmin's website pictures. Which brings me to problem 2.2. Backlighting. This screen dims way down when ambient light is lacking. I guess this is how they went from 6 to 7 days of always on battery ... I guess this is how they went from 6 to 7 days of always on battery life. This would be fine if the wrist gesture brought the watch back up to full brightness, but it does not, so when it is dark out, the watch is pretty much unreadable except for the time.3. The last problem also has to do with readability. I like my watches to run with the always on display so that I can glance down, say while driving, and read the time, without having to bring my wrist up to see the watch. I could easily do this with my Epix, but when the Fenix is at any kind of angle, with all of the stock watch faces, this watch is not readable.Note that these problems don't seem to be an issue when doing an activity, just with normal usage. But to pay this much for a watch I can't read 1/3 of the time???I'm struggling here.

I bought it yesterday and it seems worse than my epix pro 2 Amoled. I have bought all garmin watches from 5 onwards (among many many other garmin products- at least 20). SW seems unstable (i just made a dummy strength training and then tried to delete it and for ten minutes is still trying to do so) and moreover GPS in swimming starts working after 2 minutes you swim. If you stop and you want to start again then another 2 minutes till GPS works and counts although i chose the best accuracy option. The count was 1310 meters while (because i follow often this path is at least 1600-1700. First ever Garmin watch purchase. The watch is amazing. The display is bright and crisp. The battery life on this thing is fantastic. Have had 2 software updates so far and it looks like Garmin is working out some bugs. I haven’t ran into any problems yet though. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a watch that can do it all. It has so much information it can offer you and it has really improved my awareness on how much more I need to move!

First version was a lemon, but swapped to this version and WOW this is a gorgeous and powerful computer. I think the detractors don't give enough credit to the OFFLINE voice assistant. Really handy for how complex the device is, but the updated UI is far easier and more efficient than the previous version. For this cost the expectations are high, but they are met if you are both active and curious.
I can't speak highly enough about this watch. The screen is beautiful, the buttons are super cool, it has endless awesome features. You can tell it is very high quality. Right out of the box I recorded a 3 hour bike road while playing downloaded Spotify music and it didn't skip a beat. Look no further and invest in this incredible piece of technology! I have small wrists as a woman and the 43mm fits perfectly.
I’ve had it a couple of weeks so far and the watch is awesome! Beautiful AMOLED display, great battery life, speakerphone and microphone very useful. Im not a a scuba diver but apparently big improvements for those folks. Love the new UI and looking forward to Garmin improving it over the years. Watch came with some initial software glitches but Garmin has put out a few updates already to address such issues. I bought the 51mm AMOLED sapphire orange version.
Upgraded from a Garmin Epix (Gen 2) after skipping the Epix Pro. What is there to say? The Fenix and closely-related Epix lines are renowned for their functionality, accuracy and, in the case of the Epix, vibrant display. Garmin decided to discontinue the Epix and just wrap it into the Fenix line as one of its non-solar versions. The display is a little bigger and there are some minor upgrades to the software and UI. Garmin continues to improve and innovate and prove itself as the leader of fitness and sports watches. It’s a little pricier than it should be but I’d been waiting so long for this release that beggars can’t be choosers. It has generally taken them months to start offering these major releases in the past. REI is stepping up its games.
When the watch face dims, it is 100% unreadable. Sadly, this hasn't been fixed, likely because it will effect the advertised battery life. Whatever the case, there is no one who has been able to read my watch, myself included, without having to bring it right up to your eyes, like someone suffering from blindness. My old Fenix 4, which this one replaced, is easily readable. Garmin, you have 24 days left to fix this or it's getting returned.
Dove into the water and it crashes hard. Rebooted and didn’t lose progress but isn’t this supposed to be waterproof?Afterward the pressure elevation varied fr GPS elevation by 400 ft for the rest of the day.Still won’t synch activities despite restarting, reinstalling, and resynching multiple times. For a device that’s this expensive this litany of failure on basic tasks in the first 24 hours is shocking.
I'm using voice dictation, please pardon the typos. the device exceeded my expectations. The main use case for this device for me is for running and going Outdoors like hiking, camping and snowboarding. I've mainly been testing it for running which is fantastic. I especially enjoy being able to quickly toggle into running activity with maps, and relevant metrics which also pairs with my Runtastic app. The device was definitely designed with athletes in mind. the screen is clear and crisp and very well built while maintaining a very light feel on my wrist. metrics from the device and use from the Garmin app felt very natural and very informative. love the heart rate monitor as it's very accurate and resembles the measurements from a chest heart rate monitor.
