I've had the Instinct Surf, approximately a month and am completely happy with everything it does. The gps is very accurate, the steps are on par with my Vivoactive III, but it does much more than the Vivoactive. It doesn't have the touchscreen, but it is basically waterproof. There are a number of available apps and watch faces. The watch is, so far a fantastic choice.

I needed a watch to monitor my heart rate during exercise and surfing. I bought this over an Apple watch for the surf feature . It is highly rated as a sport watch and rather pricey . I am usually good at figuring out tech stuff but this watch is very frustrating to use. I was going to return it but I figured it was worth spending the time to learn its functions. You tube instructional videos helped. Owners manual literally makes no sense explaining certain functions. I subscribed to Surfline to make it a surf watch but decided after a week to cancel that. I like other surf report apps better. So after a month I’m using it to tell time and watch my heart rate during exercise. I finally starting to understand how to use some functions to time my hikes and distance ... MoreI needed a watch to monitor my heart rate during exercise and surfing. The app added on phone does not do much. So end of day I could have bought a simpler watch for less money but I’ll try to make it work for me.My garmin fish finder on my boat is also not user friendly and I don’t use a lot of the functions on that either.

I purchased this to replace my prior watch. I was looking for something lighter than my previous watch, with external buttons instead of touch face, and features for backpacking, hiking and trail running. This has been a perfect fit. Plus it's awesome that it comes in fun colors! So far the watch has been accurate and it's the first watch I can keep on all day every day without being annoyed. Great purchase.

Great features, great battery life, loaded with essentials but not overwhelming with data.I didn’t even bother using the instruction manual as the layout is very intuitive and easy to navigate to menus, there’s a tons of customizations along.Battery life is great too! This is my new daily wearable.
I bought my Garmin about two Monthes ago. I had a bit of a learning curve, but now it is part of my daily life. I particularly like the tide information. Also the Garmin connect app is a great way to review my swims and evaluate my progress. The length of the battery life and its re-charge speed are impressive. There are still plenty of features that I am not taking advantage of yet….all in good time.
I’m a 45yr old lady and any purchase to look younger, this was one of them!! About a month ago I bought my garmin surf specifically to track my new found love of swimming however what a perfect way to hold myself accountable for my daily goals. I get more compliments on the color then expected!!! I have far less time scrolling pointless social media because now when I pick my phone up my time is spent in my Garmin app!!! I love it!! I purchased bracelets to dress it up when needed!! It far exceeded my expectations!!!
I love this watch. It has all of the features that I want and none of the unnecessary things that I don't.I love the tide feature on the main screen and the fitness apps are a great motivator to keep moving. The wave counting app is fun, but ultimately I don't use it very often because the information seems less than compelling. But for other fitness activities, it's very motivating. I love all of the information that it gives me and it keeps me active.
Garmin sent me a lemon, the battery would not hold a charge. Surfline widget did not work at all on the watch. Ended up returning and bought an ultra 2 which I am enjoying. The watch does not actually track your surfing because the algorithm isn’t any good. It kept saying I was surfing when I was paddling out and max speed was all over the place.
I bought this watch so I would have tide and sunrise/sunset times on my wrist. I was constantly going to my surfing app to get this info - this is the way to go. However not sure if the tide data is available globally. Yes it It is accurate for where I live, but how about when I travel to some remote place in Asia? Nothing in the documentation tells me if the watch is capable of this - I guess it is assumed it can. It is an attractive watch but a bit hard to read for me without reading glasses. I can change the display (and size) but just need to spend some time trying to customize it a bit more so that the display works better for me and eyesight.
My wife gave me this watch as a birthday present to track my surfing activities. Having used it over the past few months I have been disappointed with the surf functions in the watch and the inaccurate readings. One of my first surfs came out with a wave speed of 86Km/h, I would say a normal wave speed would be around 26Km/h. I have found it to be average at best for surfing (which it is sold as) and often not able to distinguish between paddling and surfing especially when paddling out after a wave resulting in false readings. :(
