Already can’t see myself without it

I’ve had this for two days and I’m already addicted to all the data it provides. The UI is super intuitive after getting the hang of what the buttons all do. You can also customize literally every screen to show exactly what you want to see, and there are a ton of data fields to pick from. Pairing with a phone and external sensors is effortless. Moving up from an older Vivosmart HR to the Instinct gave me everything I always wished for in the fitness band. I was already a fan of Garmin watches, and this watch does not disappoint!

This is a replacement watch after my original Garmin Instinct was fried less than a year of daily usage. For example the battery would die before the end of a 2 hour bike ride. I expect better than that. I hope that was a one-off occurrence and that my replacement watch - the same model - doesn't turn out to be the same. I love everything else about this watch. Also, credit to Garmin Product Support in Australia who were excellent to deal with when I finally got around to raising the issue, many months outside of the warranty period.

Garmin Instinct SP02 Sensor LED's fail / Garmin Express does not open / ABC sensors in wrong location on body

Great CONCEPT item, but thousands of these fail SP02 LED sensors and have to be returned to Garmin (If it's still under warranty) - Just read the complaints online. Also, barometric / altitude sensor is flush with skin surface at wrist, blocking off readings, unlike the Casio ABC watches. Third big problem - Garmin Express is downloadable online to register watch and update, etc...But it doesn't open! These watches unfortunately are an abysmal failure due to bad design. I own four new ones (less than a year old - One SP02 failed; the others get blocked from altitude / barometric readings (as stated); Garmin Express can't be used for any (and all) of these. Garmin Instincts - Connection and Sensor Issues!
9 November 2021

Bought 5 of these hoping to get 2 that didn't have to be mailed back due to Garmin Connect connection issues or SP02 sensors that don't work (failure rate is usually within a year according to most owners reporting online). Great ideas in this watch that had the potential to beat any smart watch out there since all of them require daily charging and aren't as durable...unfortunately (and apparently) it's only half-cooked, in that it's hit-and-miss if you can get one that connects to Garmin software (Garmin Express currently does not run on Windows computers after downloading, and they're not rushing to fix it!). Really a shame. I really wanted to love this Garmin product, as they've had plenty of time to make it right. Really a shame. I really wanted to love this Garmin product, as they've had plenty of time to make it right. After 16 versions of watch software updates, they still have connection issues with Garmin "Connect" app (look at all lines of faq's in their troubleshooting steps). It really should be renamed "Garmin Connection Roulette" app. So, save up a couple of thousand dollars, buy 5 of these, and hope you get just ONE that actually may connect and work for a year. Otherwise, it's an expensive, half-cooked, throw-away watch. Or buy an old Casio ABC watch (lots of models) that only last about 40 years without battery changes or charging.

Glass Craked On Its Own
6 December 2021

I know how this sounds, but several months after I was gifted this new-in-box watch the glass cracked on me while I was outside on a hot day. Garmin says that the watch glass is not repairable and to send them the watch and $100 for a refurbished watch (strange how they can't repair my glass but can send me a used watch with repaired glass). I considered that maybe I bumped the watch or something so I sent the the watch and money. I received the refurb watch and installed a rubber bezel cover and screen protector. A couple of months later while I was sitting on my couch looking at incoming texts, the screen was fine and then, definitely not bumping it, the screen cracked again - BENEATH THE SCREEN PROTECTOR! . NOT HAPPY. Good Starters Smart-Watch
27 September 2021

I been going for some time without a watch (painful) and been wanting one with blood pressure readings for health reasons (accuracy not an issue if within a variance of -/+3 mmhg). I eventually caved and bought myself a Garmin watch, knowing it had decent reviews and a buddy of mine recommended it.The instinct, as most entry level watches does not include such blood pressure sensor, but the GPS, 24/7 HR reading alone impresses me with the long battery life, and I wanted something rugged that most of the business like watches don't quite meet. The activity/lifestyle tracking in the Garmin app is also quite convenient - although I noticed a hiccup with setting units. In Canada (at least where I am), we use Lbs and Km, but I only see options for statute/UK and metric ... MoreI been going for some time without a watch (painful) and been wanting one with blood pressure readings for health reasons (accuracy not an issue if within a variance of -/+3 mmhg). In Canada (at least where I am), we use Lbs and Km, but I only see options for statute/UK and metric which don't allow mixing of measurements. The watch itself allowed me to set both though. More face styles would have been nice (I like analog designs and was tempted to get one as such, the digital one included is not that elegant), and I feel like the UI is a little clunky / difficult to use until you play with it a bit. More for me to explore with it as I work towards improving my health and fitness.

Hard to setup
8 February 2023

I was able to get this Garmin Instinct from my work place accumulating points to purchase this. I'm sure this is a great watch but the setup is so confusing. Tried getting English on it and it's now Spanish. Visited all of your sites. Paired watch with Garmin Connect and it states I can change language through the app by connecting to settings on the app. I click on it and hit settings and all it shows me is my weight, height, birth date, etc. Says should hit General off of settings but none there. The watch was basically free and I'm so glad. I wouldn't purchase other all because of the hours spent to set up.

Limited - returned and replaced with Vivoactive 4
11 April 2022

I chose the Instinct because it seemed a versatile, multi-sport option. As wel as running and bike riding, I'd been hoping to use the watch for sailing events but was misled by a review and in practice found that there is not sufficient functionality for even a basic sailing race start. This is a genuine entry level device which in practice doesn't really have the breadth to cover any activity properly. There is a very limited set of additional apps, and most apps available for other Garmin products cannot be added to the Instinct. As a result, I have returned the Instinct and have instead ordered a Vivoactive 4 - having more thoroughly researched the Vivoactive 4, it is clear that for only about £20 more this is a far more versatile watch which can also have ... MoreI chose the Instinct because it seemed a versatile, multi-sport option. I suspect that the Instinct is a bit more outdoors rugged, but that's it.

What I hoped for and more
12 July 2021

I bought the watch for a few reasons. I wanted detailed tracks of the course in had taken while hiking and biking (Both road and mountain).Once you get the hang of proceeding through all of its features I think everyone will be very impressed with what it has shows me.It gives me the distance traveled, the time it took me and I can go back to see very detailed readings of how long it took me to get to one location and then I can move farther down my trail to see how long it had been to the 2nd point. I plan to use this feature to track myself and see what part of the trail I am improving my speed on. It's like the F1 races how they track the cars in 3 different sections of the course. The 1 and only :( would be how I needed 2 apps. GARMIN is in a totally different league then those other watches.

Works like a charm, built like a tank

Bought this around 3 weeks ago to help me count my steps for the office challenge plus I had imagined I will be using it while playing indoor volleyball and also for my once-a-week session body surfing.Works like a charm. Built like a tank.I wear a sleeve to cover it when playing volleyball and it hasn't bothered my passing, a very wrist-involved move, at all. I use the cardio activity to track my volleyball practice sessions and the stats, especially the heart rate monitor, is very useful.I use the open water swim activity for my bodysurfing and the app plots the tracks on a map which is very satisfying when reflecting on the session of the week. The GPS works even when worn under my wetsuit.Battery-wise, I charge it when there's 2 bars remaining.
