five stars for the actual device but the supporting software requires a lot of improvements and bug fixes. The Tread app is quite difficult to plan complex routes and the majority of the time simply doesn't display the map detail or takes a long time to download the map. It also fails to route long distance rides. Basecamp support is also being phased out for the XT2. It's still possible to export basecamp routes, waypoints and tracks to the device.

A very good motorcycle GPS

This is a great motorcycle GPS that is superb on road, and pretty good off road when combined with an aftermarket mount. About the same price as a phone, but built for purpose (weather, vibration, gloves, etc.) and comes with a range of mounting options. Can be switched with ignition or connected direct. Before wiring it in, the battery outlasted any trip at about 70% screen brightness. Works well with my Cardo. The adventure routing is a bit of a gimmick, particularly in towns where you'll find yourself cutting back on all sorts of side streets just because they have a corner in them.

Such a major advance over the zumo 595LM. Simple to use and install, comes with a Ram mount & only the required power cable, doesn't have a big bundle of unnecessary cables you have to tuck away on the limited room on a motorcycle. Havent used it in the rain yet, but it works a treat straight out of the box for both night and day riding and with the added topo maps, it switches seamlessly. I like the adventurous routing option too, it has so far picked up the 4wd trails i want as well. Forget the older one, go straight to this, ??

Generally better than a phone for Mac.
22 October 2020

I find it much better than using my phone for navigation. Easy to read in bright sunlight. All the bits I needed to mount on handlebars were included in box. Planning trips on Zumo XT or Google My Maps and transferring is simple enough. As I ride a lot of dirt roads I don't have confidence in the mounting latch on rough roads and there is no provision for a safety lanyard on the Zumo XT, therefore I could only give it 4 stars.

Was looking around for ages until I found it on this site. Best price and the shipping time was amazing. Next day delivery! Garmin are a great gps. I use it on my bike and in the car. Highly recommend Johnny Appleseed.

Perfect for a dual sport motorcycle
5 June 2020

I've tried various GPS options including phones and a Garmin inReach but nothing has quite worked to combine routing and tracks in a simple and easy package. The Zumo XT does it all in a great package. The screen is super bright, easy to read and the best part is that it works in portrait as well as landscape. Having it in portrait allows more of the 'road ahead' to be seen and prepare for what's coming. Only thing it could do with is a locking mount Otherwise a great option for a dual sport bike!

Perfect for the bike
10 May 2022

I purchased the xumo recently as am upgrade to just using a phone. A dedicated GPS is so much better. Screen clarity is awesome. The ability to use the touchscreen wearing gloves and the fact it's weatherproof make this an excellent piece of kit. It connects seemlessly to my Sena and I purchased a mounting kit for my car so it's easy to swap between the two. If you are doing regular touring you really can do without it. I put the phone away as once I've opened Spotify on the phone I can then control it through the zumo. I'm sure there are negatives but so far I'm pretty impressed with all the features.

The XT is a Huge Step Forward
18 March 2023

Having owned at least four previous Garmin GPS's this is a huge step forward, if only for the super-bright screen, which is most welcome. Also the return to the older style cable connect is certainly a durability advantage. On the negative side, the mount is harder to fit with one hand and the price is excessive, for the cost of manufactuing the unit. Also, I need to use BaseCamp regularly and would like to see Garmin improve and support a new product in this space ASAP.

The Zumo XT is a big upgrade from the early Zumo model I've been using for years
26 August 2021

It's so easy to plan a trip and then add to it. Very intuitive options. In combination with the Garmin app it's so easy to add gpx files from other devices and to convert a track into a trip which then appears in the trip planner app. Too easy.

Works fast simple to use and screen is the best feature
15 October 2020

Yet to use the basecamp software with this unit but expecting it will be fine understand more detailed topo maps cannot run on it so more of a 50% road and 50% dirt GPS than 90% dirt. Would suit road use only as well. Would not run well on usb as screen shut down regularly, so had to hardwire in and working fine now. The bright and large screen is so easy to read in sunlight and no waterproofing issues so far. The mounts that came with it are fine. Wifi and GPS satellite fix speed is very good, fast at updating.
