I cannot believe how much settings there are for example there's Deep rinse 2nd rinse and presoak- among many other options. If you do have a problem with the washer and dryer all you have to do is tap into the computer diagnostic system and it will tell you the arrow codes for it if you watch a YouTube video it will show you exactly what to do. You can individually test each and every function of that washer and dryer and pinpoint what the problem is if there is a poem if not there's a factory reset you can do on it and usually that can solve it. I can't tell you how excited I was to get this in my house and how amazing it is to actually have a functioning washer and dryer with the price that it was it was all worth it, thank you Best Buy for selling me a open Box version for half the price even though it was untouched brand new no dents nothing. GE YOU SAVED MY LIFE AND MY APPARTMENT. I CAN NOW HAVE A CLEAN AND AMAZING LIFE WITHOUT HAVING TO ALLWAYS BE GETTING QAUTERS FOR LAUNDRY AND SPENDING HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS A YEAR WASHING CLOTHES. Who can bear to wait weeks or months, or "unknown" delivery estimations, when they need new washer / dryer units yesterday...?Who wants to blow nearly $2 thousand dollars - on a washer with new fangled short washing cycles that you can't even begin to understand how to control...?I think at least some of these newer machines help you keep doing laundry in User-Friendly ways that you can feel more confident will actually clean your clothing in gentle, yet thorough ways. We Consumers should fight hard for our rights to have clean laundry, & washing machines that are user-friendly - we are smart enough to put water levels on "low" - if the job calls for it..! So this is fight we need to take-up with our Legislators and water-usage Regulators.When 21 years passed while my 2 previous laundry centers sat side-by-side working VERY WELL, ... I knew the newer technology would take some adjustments on my part - but, I feel like if we can send people to outer-space ; then we ought to be able to offer Consumers washing machines that can conserve water when possible - but that also allow Consumers to elect to use more water, if that's what the job requires, & to allow the Consumer to SOAK certain loads when they want to, whether that's during the wash cycle, or during the rinse cycle.

I owned a previous version of this washer/dryer combo, and it is the only model I that would fit in the same space when the original W/D died. I assumed it would be much the same. 2 changes are not improvements and made a product I was happy with, a product I am forced to tolerate. The metal screen in the lint trap is not securely attached & bulges out, making it difficult to slide the outer plastic door closed after cleaning it. The looseness of the screen makes lint fly everywhere when you try to clean it, and it appears lint is "oozing" around the corners and getting behind the screen. My old lint trap fit well, seemed securely anchored, and was easy to open & close. Worse than that, in my opinion, you can no longer choose the washer load size. Having a small space that can only accommodate a 24" stackable, for the past 25 years I have had the Whirlpool Thin Twin (bought it twice). Sorry I did not buy it a third time! This GE has a slightly larger capacity for same footprint. I read all the reviews very carefully and noted that it might be a tiny bit louder than the Whirlpool (it is) and people talked about the automatic sensor for water levels. UGH..... wish I had taken that more seriously. A load of towels is barely wet in this machine. The Whirlpool allows you to manually set the load as small, medium & larger. Therefore even if you are only washing a dishtowel you can set it on large and have a full basin of water. I always select 15 min presoak and clothes are wet but I see no water. Clothes come out clean, but now I am using the deep rinse option which seems like it uses more water to rinse with. We currently have a larger version of this stack washer/dryer at home and like it so much that we bought this smaller version for inside a hall closet of our vacation rental, being that the space is more confined and it JUST fit, so we can still close the bi-fold door. It's great for the purpose. The only issue we had with this one at first, was the dryer lint trap, is located on the inside of the door, and covered with a sliding plastic piece, that I couldn't get to go all the way in. It was enough to cover it though, and close the door, however I found after the first couple of towel loads, where I had brand new towels torn, from catching on something, came to discover that this plastic lint cover, had a small hook shape on the very end, that hung out because the ... MoreWe currently have a larger version of this stack washer/dryer at home and like it so much that we bought this smaller version for inside a hall closet of our vacation rental, being that the space is more confined and it JUST fit, so we can still close the bi-fold door. It's great for the purpose. The only issue we had with this one at first, was the dryer lint trap, is located on the inside of the door, and covered with a sliding plastic piece, that I couldn't get to go all the way in. It was enough to cover it though, and close the door, however I found after the first couple of towel loads, where I had brand new towels torn, from catching on something, came to discover that this plastic lint cover, had a small hook shape on the very end, that hung out because the cover didn't slide all the way into place. So with force added this time, I was able to push it back into place, covering most of the hook shaped piece that hung out prior to that. After several times of doing this, the piece loosened up and slides in with a click more easily now, and think we solved the catching issue, but I had about $200 in new towels damaged. That past us, the machine functions very well and we are pleased with it.
There are pluses and minuses, and my overall grade would be a C. The agitation sound is unpleasant. The tub does not fill with enough water to clean the clothes, or even dissolve the detergent, unless the Bulky Item setting is used every time. With that setting and a deep rinse it does clean the clothes well.The dryer works well, but it doesn't automatically shut off when the clothes are dry.On the positive side, the tub holds a good amount of clothes, especially for the size of the unit.Overall, it's satisfactory. I used it to replace a 34 year old Maytag washer dryer stack that I LOVED. Unfortunately, it broke down finally and I was unable to repair it. This no doubt affects my review of the new GE washer dryer.

Note - I live in a condo. But this model has my cold water pipe banging or rattling a couple of times during the start of a cycle. I've been opening up the valve more and closing it a bit but nothing seems to work. The bottom of the lint trap is not easy to clean. There's a narrow depression at the bottom of the lint trap that my fingers can't get into. I've resorted to using a Q-tip to clean it. You have to buy the hoses, dryer vents, duct tape or clamp. The sales guy can show you which ones to get. If you live in a condo, you'll need to make sure the loading dock and service elevator are available.
The product is a very nice set of stackable washer and dryer, and the dryer is a generous size, works well.The washing machine, however, is another thing. First, the controls are not really intuitive. There is a mixed bag of 'Colors' and 'Whites' on one side, with choices for each that include Light, Medium and Heavy. What does that mean? Heavy clothes? Or Heavy color (as in black or navy blue)? But the other side shows Delicate, Casual and Bulky. So if you have a load of flannel sheets, do you choose Bulky, or do you choose Heavy?Second, and most objectionable, is the 'energy saving' design that apparently subscribes to only needing three inches of water to wash a full load. As a result, I do multiple, much smaller loads, thus effectively negating the 'energy saving' idea. As well, I have a few 'decorated' tops that I like to wash in a full tub on delicate to keep from aggressive agitation that will ruin the sequins/decorations on the clothing. Now I can't do that.The stackables were purchased by my landlord, so I had no choice in the selection. If it were me, I would NEVER EVER buy a washing machine with the water saving design. NEVER!!!
This is the worst washing machine I have ever had. These High Efficiency machines use very little water. But this one is beyond the pale. If you look inside this machine as it's running you can barely see any water and not all the clothes are even wet, even if you use the "bulky items" setting, which according to the user guide is supposed to fill the tank with water. Result is that it beats the clothes to a pulp as it washes. Even after one washing of cotton tee shirts you can see the wear on the fabric. And then there's the spin cycle problem. Because there is not enough water the clothes often distribute to one side and the spin cycle turns into an out of balance condition - just about every time! Left to it's own the machine will then do another "rinse" (rinse is in quotes because rinse cycles on this machine don't use enough water to actually rinse out the soap), further beating the clothes to a pulp and then going into another out-of-balance spin, and then repeating ad infinitum. You have to be there to stop the machine, redistribute the clothes and switch it to the "drain and spin" cycle. I have tried faking the machine out by adding a few quarts of water with the clothes before it does its load detection in the hope that the machine will think I have a bigger load and then add more water. This helps a little, but not enough to solve the problems. Also, you have to dilute the detergent with the water you add before the machine starts because otherwise there is not enough water in the tank to dilute the detergent and you find detergent on the clothes when the cycle completes -- which you then have to wash off by hand. I am very sorry I bought this machine and plan to replace it very soon.
