The last set I bought has been used daily, and they have held up very well. They make my job easier, and faster.The flex heads (closed end) are worth seeking and paying a little more. It'll help you get into tighter spots, and avoid taking off multiple other nuts and bolts to get at the ones you want to get to. The flex head also have their own tightening screw, so if they get a little too loose for your liking, they can be tightened back up.I had 1 ratcheting end come loose, but it was quickly replaced under warranty. Generally quite happy with these, and considering the price, they're excellent. The ratchet ends are tight, have a good feel in use, and fit well to standard sized fastener heads. Minor gripes: -The flats on the open ends are rougher than I would like to see, which may lead to premature wear in the coating at these high spots -The 13mm wrench open end is dented/dimpled after using it to counter-hold a nut while undoing the other side with a (manual, i.e. non-impact) ratchet. Still usable, but disappointing to see damage after just a couple of average uses
Really can't complain for the price that it's going for right now, but really wish it had included the 5/16 (next size smaller) ratcheting wrench which is pretty common. Also, I don't know what the other reviewers use these for, but they do have a longer handle than the regular Snap-On and mastercraft ratcheting wrench set. As far as the mechanism and grip goes, they feel pretty much the same as Mastercraft ratcheting wrenches.MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE SIZES BEFORE YOU BUY THEM!Design 6/10Durability 6/10Value 10/10
I've used the high dollar ratchet wrenches and have several sets of them. I mostly use these at home. They work great. They will last a long time if you use them properly. Break the bolt loose first with the open end and then use the ratchet side. When tightening use the open end. Do not use the ratchet side to tighten or you will damage the ratcheting gear inside the wrench.
These are good basic wrenches. The rachet works smoothly and locks in well allowing you to apply a decent amount of force on the wrench (within reason of course). I have a more expensive metric racheting wrench set in addition to this one and the quality differences are apparent - the other wrenches are a bit thinner yet seem to be heavier/more solid. The rachet is also a bit more crisp on those.That said, there is not enough of a difference between this set and my other one (that retails for three times the price) to justify spending that much more money unless you use these wrenches on a weekly or perhaps even daily basis.Just shows you the value you're getting with this set.
Solid product, the fit is good with positive ratcheting action. Made my life a lot easier during my vehicle suspension install. The size of these ratchets were good and felt solid in the hands. Good product for the weekend mechanic. Would I have preferred Snap-On? Of course, but these did the job at a fraction of the price.
This is the third GearWrench product I have bought on sale, and I got these for $39. I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy any of their products at full price. I haven't used them yet, but first thing I noticed upon opening them is that they need to work on a few things like quality control. I opened the packaging and pulled each wrench out and they are covered in smeared fingerprints. I guess I have the unrealistic expectation that the workers would wipe each wrench down with a lint-free cloth or something prior to putting them in the holder so that the chrome would be nice and shiny when they got to the customer. Oh well. I'll be wiping them down then putting a light coat of corrosion inhibitor on them prior to putting them in my toolbox.
Bought my first set 20 years ago and still work great. Got 2 more sets for gifts. These things are a lifesaver and time saver. Very durable. Use the open end or a regular wrench or socket to break difficult bolts and nuts loose to help last longer. Lifetime warranty has been useful had to have 4 of the most heavy used ones replaced. Not bad for the abuse I put them through. Every mechanic and diyer should have a set of these.
