Gerber ax is a great all around handy tool for chopping ice, hammering hay hooks,splitting wood, and emergency fence repair.
The axe is light weight but capable of splitting hardwood timber. It keeps its edge, and sharpens nicely when required.
As with any Gerber product, it is a fantastic tool. Gerber has been making great products for decades. I always choose Gerber over any other knife or axe or hatchet or multitool.
It’s actually made in Finland by Fiskars so the quality is top notch and the fact I bought it on sale was even better! Really great axe.
Bought this not too long ago to carry on my hiking bag and in my ice fishing sled to use along with my knife and hatchet for larger firewood and future shelter building as I'm getting more and more into bushcrafting. So far this axe has been great, cuts deep and splits well for a finer bit axe, the one thing I'm wary of is the fiberglass handle. This and my hatchet handle (a similar make also made by Fiskars) are my first non wood handles, but so far have shown no weakness even around 0-15 degrees.
I got this awesome axe as a gift from my girlfriend. I’ve taken it on the North Coast Trail and a bunch of back country hikes. I do not mind the weight as it offers so much in versatile use. There’s also the safety aspect of having an extra weapon with you. Good weight as you swing and a handle that has not let me down yet.
I gave it four stars because I haven't quite run it through the paces and I haven't had it long enough to test the durability. It has been a 5 star axe to this point. I am not really the neon green polymer handled type but I purchased the axe because it's light, sharp, and the perfect length. Easily packable on the exterior of my bag or throw it in the camper. Quality is supposedly there and it feels that way. When you carry a hatchet you feel like it's for kindling but this short axe feels like I could build a cabin with it.
Shocking product, blew apart after 1.5 days of use. Must be made for that soft finnish wood, not the solid Aussie red gum we have here. Staff were easy with refund so no complaints there. Steer clear of this one.
